Interesting article. I could be wrong, just speculation.

    A couple quotes from Heckert:

“We need to score points and get some people that defenses are afraid of,” Heckert said Thursday.

The Browns expected more from their receiving corps with the conversion to the West Coast offense. Asked if the Browns’ overrated their receivers, Heckert said: “No, ah, no, we didn’t overrate ‘em. We didn’t have a whole lot of choices to make. You can’t go out and draft 10 receivers."

“Free agency, I wasn’t really that fired up about a whole lot of guys in free agency.”

“From the level we were at on our roster, I just felt we needed the picks. I still do. Obviously we have to use those picks this year, gotta do something with them, or then I could second-guess myself. I’m sure I won’t have to, you guys will do that for me.”

McCoy: Going 6-15 as a starter in parts of two seasons, the Browns must decide whether to stick with the third-round pick in 2010 or draft a quarterback in April.

“I don’t think we need to see much more,” Heckert said of McCoy.

“Are there things where Colt could do better? Yeah. Are there things we could’ve done catching the ball, blocking better, yeah, that could’ve helped some, too,” Heckert said. “He’s done some good things, he really has.”

Linebacker D’Qwell Jackson: Playing this season on a one-year deal after tearing both pectorals the previous two years, Jackson is a candidate for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.

“You can pretty much say he’s going to be here,” Heckert said.

I dont see how you get McCoy wont be our starter out of that or how that means we are drafting a QB. It was a very vague comment

Well what should he have said? That our WRs sucked just as much as the available WRs in free agency?

No he should have said nothing. He should have said something like " we are always looking to upgrade"

Your credability kind of gets shot when you make stupid statements about liking the talent we have..

We don't have one solid wr on our team. How can this be possible???

I think if the Browns did draft a qb - that draftee would sit on the bench and learn - and McCoy would still start.

The Browns desperately need speed at lb, de, and wr. and rt. They could win a lot of games with McCoy with those offensive additions.

Otherwise, a new qb will suffer the same problems.

If we ignore Blackmon and hes there on the board and we take a QB (which i think we need also) But i would take the best WR next year no matter what, but this is a possiblity.

I see it as Bam we get Barkley, RG3, or whatever QB with our 4-6 pick.

Mid tier greg lil type of pick will be there at 20+ with the second pick.

                    Browns release Mccoy

Browns Sign Veteren to Mentor rookie-Vet starts

Browns 2-6 by week 8 Rookie starts (Looks good final 8 games but to many gaps still to fill) browns end up 5-11

Wait fuck i just read this book 2 years ago. 🙁

In Cleveland failure is an artform.

Yes he would have been, but Breaston is not worth the $25 million contract KC gave him. He is a #2 WR at best.

Well the Browns will draft a QB per Holmgren. He stated that the team will draft a QB every year. Thats been Holmgrens track record. That said...I think McCoy woll wind up on another team and be successful Ala Drew Brees.

Learn what, Cal, and from whom?

McCoy is a wing and a prayer. His reviews from folks here seem to mirror the posts about Frye and others - a gamer who gives it his all. I like those ingredients as long as having above-average (my bar isn't set all that high) NFL talent is part of the equation.

I am afraid McCoy is a backup anywhere else in the league but a starter in Cleveland where there is no real starter.

The clock is ticking on Holmgren - assuming Boy Lerner really cares.

"God is great. Beer is good. People are crazy."

I agree but you also can't dog your own players. I think he was just being optimistic. Image a nre boss type comes into your office and says your group sucks. That wouldn't come off to well. But football is way different than real jobs. I just think he was trying to show support of the young guys.

We all want McCoy to succeed, cos he has shown the most promise among the QBs we had in recent years, but that is not an indicator of how good McCoy was but rather how poor our choice of QB's have been.

We also want McCoy to succeed because he seems like a hard working nice kid and we all want him to succeed. I know I do. But we must face the facts. He has been given a lot of time ... a LOT of time to prove himself and he has proved to be nothing more than a good game manager.

We all know the knocks on him and we have been fervently giving excuses for him, but the sooner we face the facts, the better it is for us. We need to either draft a good QB or get a better one via FA.

Colt will make a solid backup to a solid starter. Their is a reason he wasn't drafted in the the earlier rounds.

we could draft andrew luck and he wouldn't do shit on this team. there is no talent with about 80% of our starting positions.

why not draft to fill these holes that are glaringly missing instead of wasting the most valuable pick on a position that is already filled with a person that can compete on this level and has proven so to this point. NO. he's no HOFer but build around him and if he sucks after being given some WRs then cut his ass.
