Mock Draft Update

The Browns Board
28 13 1.7k
  • I think we can easily trade up from 4-5 to the 6-10th slot and then also get another 2nd round pick this year and 2nd rounder next year. It's still very possible for us to give up our 4th and 23rd pick plus a 2nd next year for Luck, which i possibly see them doing. but giving up another 1st next year NO WAY....on 2nd thought that would be stupid...who would he throw to? who would block the rush? who would make holes for play action? Yeh, i would rather us give colt 2 more years then draft another QB.

  • Who looked to be the consensus 2 and 3 (behind Luck as #1 I assume)???

If Blackmon falls to #4, he's the no-brainer...

If not... I'd see who's interested in a #4... and we have a 22-ish pick as well.

Maurice (Morris) Claiborne CB LSU - I like Kirkpatrick better and can get him later... Trade down w/ Miami to #8

Trent Richardson RB Alabama - Like him a lot, but longevity is a concern.

Matt Kalil OT USC - not impressed with his footwork... I like Martin (Stanford) better.

Quinton Coples DE UNC - a 3-4 DE. Ingram (SC) late in 1st would be interesting DE conversion

Robert Griffin III QB Baylor - No, no, no running QB's for me...

No one else worth a #4...

I agree. But that would be considered "trading down." It makes perfect sense and we would still have a top 10 pick. With the extra draft picks, we will be that much closer to contending..

  • Right now RG3 is the favorite among mocks he may not even make it to #4....

  • Look, I love Blackmon just as much as anybody else, but there is no way in hell we can go into next yr with Colt as our QB. I know that we good take a QB in the late first or Second, but if RG3 is there at number 4 we have to take him!!!!

Hot rumor I heard is that the Browns could trade our 1st and 3rd and next yrs 2nd to jump to the top pick to take luck. I was listening to some "draft experts" and they stated that they think that would be more than enough to move up to number 1. The thought process is that the Colts might not take Luck, because Manning will be back and Manning has said pletty of time that if you are picked number 1 in the draft you should start from day 1.

I have mix feeling about moving up and giving up a third and next yrs second. I like that the Browns would do that to get Luck, but I dont like giving up picks because we need help everywhere. All well, its a shame that the best part of the yearfor a Browna fan is draft day

  • I've been watching the Sooners, Hawkeyes game and really dissapointed with Riley Reiff and L. Jones. Reiff has really bad footwork and gets pushed back a lot...looks to have strong upper body but leg strenght and feet are a no go for me, of course he may not even come out this year. Landry Jones is horrible in the pocket and will get demolished in the NFL and i had high hopes for him, oh well. Honestly, i want to like Blackmon because he runs really nice routes but not sold on his hands...I have only seen 3 full games but every game he dropped like 2 or 3 easily catchable passes, not sure if he has tiny hand syndrome or what. None of the WR impress me much this year...have a couple studs coming out next year but hopefully we concentrate on the both sides of the line this year, though if Rueben Randle or Dwight Jones are available I would grab them both. Dwight Jones Rookie of the year 2012

  • I have surveyed the various mock drafts that are listed on the Walter Football Mock draft database, and here are the votes for whom the Browns would take with the 4th overall pick in the draft if they maintained that position:

Justin Blackmon WR OK. St. 38 votes

Maurice Claiborne CB LSU 28 votes

Trent Richardson RB Alabama 19 votes

Matt Kalil OT USC 18 votes

Quinton Coples DE UNC 16 votes

Robert Griffin III QB Baylor 13 votes

Alshon Jeffrey WR South Carolina 13 votes

Jonathan Martin OT Stanford 10 votes

Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama 5 votes

Plenty of stupidity out there I see. Hello? We have 5 time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas playing LT, you don't ever, never draft your RT @ #4, dumb asses. They get drafted in the second round- because they're not good enough to play LT.

The only players that make sense are Griffin and Couples, assuming Blackmon is off the board. Ask the Eagles and Jets where having 2 stud CBs will get you- not very far. Richardson is apparently not coming out, and Floyd & Jeffries aren't worth the #4 overall. Apparently a few Oklahoma alums had a drug induced moment thinking Landry Jones is a top 10 prospect.

  • I want to meat the two idiots who have us taking Burfict with our first pick!

The ravens drafted their right tackle in the first round...they are going to win the division this year

The eagles and jets have a lot more problems than their corners but they both have 2 of the most talented secondaries the league has ever seen.

Floyd and Jeffries are both top 15 caliber...since the browns only have one pick in the top 15 why not take the player they want instead of worrying where they think he should be drafted

Oh and drafting a qb doesn't make sense

  • Oh and drafting a qb doesn't make sense

It makes more sense than sticking with the scrub.

True but the browns don't have a scrub qb on the team right now

If qb was a legit need I'd be all for it but colt is better than about half of the other QBs in the league...you can't say that about the browns WRs or RT

    1. AS if drafting a RT is what put the Ravens over the top... puh-leez... 🙄

    2. Because rather than over-drafting a player, you may be able to "trade down", still get the one you want and fill other needs. Whole lotta value to be harvested between pick 4 and 15... or 22...

    3. RGIII at #4 is what doesn't make sense... or at 5... or 7... or...

I'm not sold on Luck, but IF H&H are that sure that Lock is a solid #1 and that's all it would take to move up.... I'm down with that. If for no other reason than bloodlines... Oliver Luck was a hard working gamer and his kid has physical gifts way beyond Daddy's.

But if that were to happen, you immediately move Colt for a #3 (maybe more?) and move on... none of that "Brady/ Derek" BS ever again...

  • I live in Oklahoma and every OU fan I've spoken to recently would rather have the Bell-dozer starting over Landry Jones. If we take Jones at #4 (extremely doubtful) I'll have to give up football for a few years. Jones shrinks in big moments. I'd rather take Weeden and his AARP membership over Jones.

These mocks were not necessarily Browns specific.....I simply noted who was the #4 player to be selected in the draft, regardless of which team was doing the selecting.

No, I would not expect the Browns to take an OT with their #4 pick....but they might further down the line with the pick we got from Atlanta.

  • There are a lot of talent WR in the draft, we should draft coples or clabourne with 4. i dont like drafting blackmon because he reminds me way too much of micheal crabtree. (like its kinda scary how similar they are in body and background) I know we need offense, but we could get kendall wright or jurius wright with out 2nd pick. this way we can still have a burner, But we can also fill a need of Needing another rusher opposite of sheard or a corner to replace the terrible sheldon brown. Little, wright, and norwood. I like that line up. Sheard and coples, i love that even more. Haden clabourne together. Get effing real dude, thats just beast.

Yes, there is something to be said for drafting a CB. In my survery of various mocks, Blackmon was the first choice, but Claiborne was #2.

yeah i wouldnt mind another good corner. since phill taylor will be better, im predicting our run defense will be better. so getting another good corner in the pass happy nfl might be a good idea. especially if we plan on contending in the playoffs. i wouldnt mind coples either. But either way i dont want blackmon. I just think that he fits well in that air raid offense but in our WCO we need someone who can strectch the field so our underneath routes cant be sat on by safeties. blackmon isnt a field stretcher because he isnt that fast nor is he that tall. More of a possesion receiver. Kendall wright would be the field stretcher we need. opening up greg little, norwood and peyton hillis.

  • Im not sold on Claiborne i just think hes not worthy of a top 5 selection, id actually much rather perfer Minnifeild in the later 1st round then Claiborne in top 5..

Dre Kirkpatrick is 6'3 with size and speed, any thoughts on him?? He needs help with his coverage but i think his upside is higher than Claiborne...

Out of all of them i think Minnifield would be my selection

also, asomugha was not good for the eagles system, they played a lot of zone. asomugha is a taller corner so sitting in zone and making quick breaks isnt his strenghth. they played more man toward the end and look how much their defense improved. I say get coples with the 4th pick though. a pass rush is better than great coverage. No one can shut down a receiver forever on one play, but with coples we won't have too.

  • Coples isnt worth a top 5 pick IMO
