Mangini should shell out his LOVE for DA
-
As I think about this more, I wonder why Savage made a contract like this? Did it never occur to him that what we saw the last half of last season was who DA was? That he might just continue to suck and we'd need to dump him?
Not taking picks for Anderson when the chance was there or trading him for value, then signing him to this contract. What a freakin' dumbass. I hope he doesn't get another chance in the NFL.
What an asshole. I see why Lerner canned his ass first.

Yeah, the DA move may be the worst thing that Savage did while he was here. It set our development back ANOTHER year and deprived us of a year of BQ development and two potential players.
For a supposed personnel/draft guru, it seems particularly odd that he would turn down two high picks for a player he SHOULD HAVE KNOWN was severely -- and predictably -- limited when he already had a top QB that he just drafted.
It's such a weird situation it makes me wonder if Savage actually was the one who made the Quinn pick or if it really was that diabolical mastermind Randy Lerner, who poses as a clueless bajillionaire but really is a football madman.
Or, Savage committed the cardinal sin for a personnel guy and fell in love with his own genius and overrated his entire roster.
It's starting to look more and more like that is the case.

Dam, I bring this up all the time, but that Browns Backer meeting last spring after DA was resigned pissed me off. Phillip just wouldn't stop blowing DA and him asking all his scouts who the QB was over and over was annoying. It reeked of a Napoleon complex.
His legacy here will be the botching of DA/Quinn to me.

Agreed. He made a monumental and inexplicable miscalculation.
OR...there is a lot more to the story that we'll never know.
For example, maybe RAC really wanted DA and Phil actually listened to him? Maybe Phil caved to his coach on the QB?
What else makes sense here? Why draft a QB with your 1st round pick and then sit him for the journeyman backup?

Masters, do you know if they can avoid the bonus by simply cutting him? As in, is the bonus guaranteed, if we cut him is there a chance they could owe the 4.66 you claim and the bonus?
yikes!
If so, looks like we should get used to the idea of an expensive 2nd QB hanging around. Phil stated keeping them both as long as possible was his intention on numerous occasions. We filled in the blank for him, whether that meant 1 yr, etc.
If Savage literally meant what he said that's why he would allow the contract to be written up that way, Lemosley01.
Phil made our bed, most only go one way. If the above has merit, from a financial standpoint, trading Anderson seems akin to laying atop the covers feet first with our coat and shoes on. Shefter probably knows as much about this situation as anyone right now, given his access. And Mangini may know even less than him right now, so this is all.....fun.
