.LSU's top wide receiver, Reuben Randle, turning pro

Add a comment Kevin McGuire, College Football Examiner

    January 13, 2012 -

LSU's leading receiver has decided to enter the NFL Draft. Rueben Randle, who led the SEC champion Tigers with 917 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions, came to the decision over a family dinner Wednesday evening and submitted his NFL papers Thursday afternoon according to Tiger Sports Digest.

LSU is already losing defensive back Morris Claiborne, defensive tackle Michael Brockers and wide receiver Russell Shephard a year early to the draft as well. Claiborne and Brockers made their decisions official at a press conference Thursday alongside head coach Les Miles. Miles said, "They both have had real consistent growth." Shephard's decision to turn pro has been a bit more questionable, as draft analysts suggest there is a good chance he might not be drafted and is a late round pick at best.

With the loss of Randle for LSU's offense, the leading receiver set to return in 2012 will be Odell Beckham Jr., who was second on the team in receiving with 475 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his freshman season.

Players submitted their declaration to turn pro have until January 18 to withdraw from the NFL Draft, although there does not look to be much of a chance Randle will change his mind.

  • Wait a second you want us to take him in the late 1st when your article says draft experts say there is a good chance he dosent get drafted?????

    What he said...

  • READ again. That was the appraisal of SHEPHARD.πŸ˜‰ Russell Shephard.

I went back and highlighted it for you guys.

This is an appraisal of Randle:

" Randle is an athlete that is a cross between A. J. Green and Julio Jones. He should have a similar impact at the next level. "

So, if the Rams don't take Blackmon in the first ahead of the Browns, but

he's gone before the Browns pick....

the Browns need a bigtime blue chippie wr. Maybe two. @@

    I like Wright, but he's only 5-10.

The comparison of Randle as a "cross between" Green and Jones makes me think Randle will

    rise bigtime at the combine.

As far as numbers go.... he didn't have much of a qb throwing to him.

Just thinkin. I think that Randle could be the kid that the Rams take in the second, because they traded down and gave up Blackmon for choices.

Which case, the Browns get Blackmon. Interesting stuff, I think.

  • Barry Every is a nationaly recruiting analyst for College players im pretty sure he was talking about him going to LSU also considering he works for Rivals thats what he was talking about with Randle...Randle was a top Recurit coming outta High School when he Choose LSU ala Jones and Green as well

  • Yeah. But still, Randle could be a helluva pick in the second round. If his stock rises at the combine...

Just a question I was thinkin. Who knows.

  • I do like his size and speed

  • RUBEN RANDLE

    Height: 6-4. Weight: 207.

    Projected 40 Time: 4.51.

    Projected Round (2012): 2-3.

12/12/11: Randle has played well for LSU this season and was their top receiving target. He did not get a huge amount of opportunities, but generally produced when thrown the ball. Randle is a very good red-zone weapon who uses his size and quickness to produce points. For the season, he has 50 receptions for 904 yards and eight touchdowns.

Hurting Randle's draft stock was being shutdown by Alabama and their NFL-talent-laden secondary. He had two catches for 19 yards in that game. If Randle excels in the rematch, he could improve his stock significantly. Randle excels at running slant routes in the short to intermediate part of the field, and that should have a big appeal to teams that run the West Coast offense.

(maybe Browns should go for those Alabama secondary guys instead?)

8/19/11: Rueben Randle is hurt by having Jordan Jefferson as his quarterback. Last year, he was second on the team in receiving to Terrence Toliver. Randle had 33 receptions for 544 yards and three touchdowns. Randle showed his potential when he lit up Alabama's standout secondary to the tune of 125 yards on three catches with a touchdown. Randle is a good athlete with size and speed. It will be interesting to see if LSU gets him the ball enough for him to show his skills.

They were talking about Shepherd not getting drafted, not Randle.

  • If he's there in round 2, get him.

  • Tall and pretty good speed. Could be a steal as a deep threat in the 3rd round. Not saying that he's not worthy of a 2nd rounder because I really like him.

  • Good find Cal. Size and speed is a huge component for the WCO

  • I'm kinda thinkin that the kid I wanted last year, Randall Cob... went way earlier than expected to Green Bay.

It depends on how he blows people away at the combine, or not. The Dobson kid apparently is staying at Marshall.

The Browns need Kendall Wright's burner speed.

    Confusing, bigtime.

  • He could be a very interesting player if he can run near a 4.4. Would fit beautifully in the WCO at 6'4" and with really good speed...
