Three strike me as unassailable choices:

    Curtis Martin

RB's are easy to judge... 10 straight 1,000+ yd seasons to start his career and 14,101 yds total... 'nuff said. But any lingering question could easily be put to rest by seeing him in any of those first ten seasons. Great runner for the ages...

    Willie Roaf

OL are toughest to judge... unless you are selected to 11 Pro Bowls in 13 seasons. Willie may not have been Anthony Munoz (but who has been), but he was about as good as it got during the time he played.

    Dermontti Dawson

Like I said OL are toughest... unless you revolutionize your position. Pretty much what Dawson did with his ability to pull from the Center position. Seven Pro Bowls in 13 seasons... not Willie's pace, but when speed is a key attribute, leg injuries take a greater toll.

    As for the rest...

    Jack Butler

Okay... I kinda remember the name. But I definitely remember the Steelers of the late 50's/ early 60's and they were the league's doormat team. So to have posted the numbers he did for that era in that team... Hey, why not?

    Cortez Kennedy

Dominant college player at "the U" with a good career to be sure. But HOF worthy? Not feeling that... One bit of solace... if Cortez is HOF worthy, Jerry Sherk can't be far behind...

    Chris Doleman

No... sorry, but I don't get this one. Yup lotta sacks, but in my mind emblematic of the one-dimensional speed rushers that get the glory while their D sinks to the bottom of run defense.

    Slights and oversights...

Of the finalists not selected there really are none I can get too worked up about.

    Dick Stanfel... Don't remember him...

Bill Parcells... OK, two SB wins with one, great Giants team. Otherwise more media-made than substansive... Closed with a great stint in Miami didn't he?

    Ed DeBartolo Jr... who cares...

Kevin Greene and/or Charles Haley (see Chris Doleman)...

    Aeneas Williams... ehhhh...

Chris (All-he-does-is-catch-touchdowns) Carter, Andre Reed, and Tim Brown...

ESPN is ripe with bitchin' about Carter and yes, he caught a lot of balls, but HOF? Not my choice among these three...

Andre Reed was as tough as W/R's came for his 15 years in the league. He'd be my sentimental choice, if sentiment ruled my HOF choices. Also not my choice among these three...

If there is an oversight in this year's class it has to be Tim Brown. Almost 1100 catches (5th All-time), almost 15,000 yds receiving (4th All-time) and 20,000 all-purpose yds (5th All-time), over 100 TD's, 9 Pro Bowls... Tim was "Mr. Raider" in the 90's.

Brown and Carter should both have gotten in. Carter has more TDs than anyone who's Hall eligible- including Brown, and he had almost as many receiving yards as TB in fewer seasons.

Call me an OSU homer, but I thought Carter was a first ballot lock to get in.

The only thing I can think must be happening is that all those WRs....who are fairly close, are taking votes away from each other, thus none of them are getting the nod.
