  • FYI, I actually preferred Mahogany Rush to Rush. Both acts came out about the same time, both were being promoted at the same time. Both were from Canada. I thought Mahogany Rush was more melodic, bluesier. I always wondered why Rush made it bigger than Mahogany Rush.

(of course, most of you probably don't remember them)

  • Perhaps it is because Mahogany Rush was considered too much of a Hendrix Clone. Which, maybe they were:

I agree, quite strongly, with a few of those. However, as jnuh pointed out, the large majority of that list has nothing on Rush. Your list is bunk, and you're making it look longer than it really is by including guys like Joe Walsh and Sting. Those guys are already there, just not as solo acts. What Rush has accomplished, if you look at the numbers, puts them among the likes of the Beatles, Stones, and Aerosmith. The only difference between Rush and these guys is that Rush doesn't play for airtime, yet how many artists who will be in the hall someday or are in the hall now would cite Rush as an influence?

A lot of guys get in on their solo careers as well as their careers in bands...includin Neil Young. Hell Eric Clapton is in 3 times already...and could go in again if Blind Faith or Derek and the Dominoes were to be selected. Neil Young is in 3 times: Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and solo.

So, Walsh and Sting in their solo careers are still viable candidates.

And, actually, the large majority of those named acts have a ton over Rush. Many were early influences. Nearly all had more hits.

No one in their right mind would ever use Rush in the same sentence with The Beatles and The Stones. I don't care how many records they sold.

With some of these, it seems to be a genre issue. The RRHOF isn't prone to putting too many "Folk Acts" in....and it seems to spurn prog rock acts.

I gave you this list to show what Rush is up against. And its competition is fierce and getting fiercer with newer acts coming up. (new meaning acts that have been around for less than 25 years. All the acts mentioned are already eligible, there will be many more where those came from)

That list is made up of 2 things ... I would say 75% of it aren't on the same level as rush and then the other 25% are equals to Rush. No one pops out on that list as an artist that should be in over Rush. Bands don't stick around putting out new music and touring (in larger venues) if they suck and don;t appeal to people.

I agree though that Rush should be mentioned in the same breath as the Beatles and the Stones. Beatles and the Stone are basically musics Montana and Unitas ... Rush is more Dan Fouts.

Actually, there are quite a number that I believe should be in over Rush....and I would say that the percentage is more like 50/50 of acts that are on a higher level than Rush.

I agree though that Rush should be mentioned in the same breath as the Beatles and the Stones. Beatles and the Stone are basically musics Montana and Unitas ... Rush is more Dan Fouts.

No, because Fouts is a Hall of Famer. Rush is not. I would put them more in the Milt Plum, Elvis Grbac, Chris Miller, Jay Schroeder class.

  • Here you go, take solace in this: Rush is in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. They can hang out there with Loverboy and The Tragically Hip. (and Neil Young)

I guess maybe that makes them the Damon Allen, Dieter Brock, Tom Clements, Joe Kapp, or Doug Flutie of Rock. (and Warren Moon) Canadian Football Hall of Famers.

  • Rush isn't in yet. They should be someday. Grbac, Plum and whoever else you named have no business ever being in the HOF.

Like somebody said earlier, the R&R HoF is just a contest to see who's slept with the most Sony and BMG execs. It's a fucking joke. God. Arguing with you is like arguing with my great aunt. All I can hear is "Get off my lawn, whippersnapper."

    Yeah, Satch taught Vai.

Arguing with me is like arguing with someone that sees the big picture where you are looking through a pinhole. The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is not what YOU think it should be. It covers an entire gamut of musical tastes, some of which fit my tastes, much of which does not. I said I wasn't going to do it, but here is a lengthy list of acts that have as much of a resume to be inducted into the HOF as Rush. Rush can be included in this list, but they are by no means above this list. And FYI, this starts all the way back and comes forward in time:

Pat Boone, Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, The Tokens, The Cadillacs, Danny and the Juniors, Patsy Cline, Petula Clark, Screamin Jay Hawkins, The Big Bopper, Joe South, The Kingston Trio, Paul Anka, Carol King, Jerry Butler, The Miracles, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, Jan and Dean, Joan Baez, Link Wray, Ben E. Geils Band, Ringo Starr, Supertramp, Todd Rundgren, Uriah Heep, America, Carly Simon, The Doobie Bros., Electric Light Orchestra, Gerry Rafferty and Stealer's Wheel, Little Feat, Meatloaf, Nazareth, Thin Lizzy, War, Yoko Ono, Blue Oyster Cult, Dan Fogelberg, Hall and Oates, Joe Walsh, Lou Reed, Loggins and Messina, Peter Frampton, Pure Prairie League, The Raspberries, Roxy Music, Styx, Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, The New York Dolls, Robin Trower, Bad Company, Eno, Donna Summer, Judas Priest, Kansas, KISS, KC and the Sunshine Band, Robert Palmer, Chaka Khan, Journey, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Alabama, The Outlaws, Boston, Heart, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Cheap Trick, Peter Garbriel, Teddy Prendergast, The Cars, The Cure, DEVO, Dire Straits, Joe Jackson, The Neville Bros., Rick James, Whitesnake, The B-52s, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Pat Benatar, Simple Minds, The Sugar Hill Gang, Twisted Sister, Afrika Bambataa, The Go Gos, Huey Lewis and the News, INXS, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Billy Idol Bow Wow Wow, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Eurythmics, Husker Du, Lionel Richie, The Stray Cats, Tears for Fears, Wang Chung, Big Country, Culture Club, George Clinton, Janet Jackson, Marshal Crenshaw, Sting, Wham, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Sade, Whitney Houston, Allison Kraus, Enya, Indigo Girls, Soundgarden, Gloria Estafan, Jane's Addiction, MC Hammer, Public Enemy, and a couple of acts that will be eligible for the first time in 2013: Nirvana, Phish

Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, The Big Bopper, Joe South, Neil Sedaka, Chubby Checker, Willie Nelson,(definitely deserves in) Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Paul and Mary, Dionne Warwick, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Moody Blues, Alex Harvey (you've got to be kidding), Deep Purple, Free, Jethro Tull, Chicago, Linda Ronstadt, Poco, Three Dog Night- immensely popular, though their music makes me want to puke , Yes, Charlie Daniels, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Uriah Heep, The Doobie Bros., Electric Light Orchestra, Blue Oyster Cult, Dan Fogelberg, Styx- like most of their stuff but not Hall worthy-IMHO, Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, Bad Company, Judas Priest, KISS, KC and the Sunshine Band, Journey, Foreigner, Alabama, Boston, Heart (nominated this year, and worthy), The Cars, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Ray Vaughn, 2013: Nirvana, Phish

We're from the same time zone, but I had to edit your list, and even some of the folks I left up there are damn marginal in my book. (Maybe not, taking a complete look at who's in, they set the bar too low IMHO). Patti Smith? Beastie Boys? Blondie? Really? K C and the Sunshine band popularized disco, but does that make them worthy?

OK, the biggest travesties are Willie Nelson (get the guy in while he's still alive), Yes, Jethro Tull, and the Doobie Brothers. Personally, If you asked me who I'd put in first- Rush or Kiss, I'd have to flip a coin. 🙂

Problem is your original list has too many one hit- or one shot wonders. & I don't care if they're anthems, and changed to course of music. (You missed Steppenwolf- "Born to be Wild" if that wasn't ever an anthem, I don't know what was.) I would take Derek & the Dominoes "Layla", "Blind Faith", the "Yes" album, Jethro Tull's "Benefit" [difference there being Yes & Tull had several other GREAT albums which IMHO makes them Hall worthy] Johnny Winter "And" (one notch below- before he got strung out on Heroin) (maybe Frampton comes alive} in my choices if you only allowed me to bring 10 CDs to a desert island. The football analogy would be Doug Williams was a Super Bowl MVP- does that make him Football HOF worthy?

Glad you mentioned Frank. He's one of My all time great influences and IMO...the best live jammer ever...the term "BAD ASS" just comes to mind. I cant think of any other guitarist I could associate or apply that term to. And theres certainly some great players out there.

I know she is from Michigan, but I didn't know she went to Michigan, though I think it must have just been a short time because i don't think she ever graduated.

  • She didn't go there, she's just a fan.

Well hell, I probably have as much or more connection to the U of M as she does then. Hell, I sit right here in the town that produced some of the greatest assets in the history of Michigan football.

So? If you want to talk football, the reason for Michigan's recent decline into the dumpster was Tressell kept all the Ohio kids in Ohio. 🙂 Really not kidding. Michigan wouldn't do squat if they didn't raid Ohio. Michigan= 15 kids from Ohio, Ohio State 2 kids from Michigan. I rest my case.

The first part of your post is wrong, I really don't want to go into an actual explanation though because you'd probably just yell and scream and not listen like a normal OSU fan

The second part frankly doesn't matter. I didn't realize state schools were only allowed to recruit their own state, and were judged by how many kids they have from within their state

Finally, we'll see how Meer does. It is pretty stupid to think he'll be the greatest coach ever now that he is at OSU. You should also hope he's there for more than 4 years

Did you read the statement? I said Coldplay is more well known than Green Day.....and for my money, no, I doubt that Coldplay wishes they could be Green Day. From what I have heard of them, Coldplay is much better.
