Here is the new current report on the Team of The Decade Standings after the Super Bowl.

Recall that this is how it works: Each Team that makes a playoff appearance gets points for how far they advance. A Team that gets in the playoffs gets a point.

The teams that lose the conference title games get 3 points. The Team that loses the Super Bowl gets 6 points, the Super Bowl winner gets 10 point. At the end of a Decade the Team with the most points of course wins The Gipper's Cup for The Team of The Decade. This Decade is counted from 2010 -2019. Here we go so far:

    Packers 10+1 for 11 points

    Giants 10 for 10 points

    Patriots 1+6 for 7 points

    Steelers 6+1 7 points

    Ravens 1+3 4 points

    Bears 3 3 points

    Jets 3 3points

    49ers 3 3 points

    Falcons 1+1 2 points

    Saints 1+1 2 points

    Seahawks 1 1 point

    Colts 1 1 point

    Chiefs 1 1 point

    Eagles 1 1 point

    Texans 1 1 point

    Lions 1 1 point

    Broncos 1 1 point

    Bengals 1 1 point

    Previous teams of the Decade:

2000s: Patriots with 41 points. 2d were Steelers with 28 pts. 3rd were Eagles with 21

1990s: Cowboys with 37 pts. then Bills with 28 and 49ers and Broncos with 25 each

    1980s: 49ers with 46 pts. 2d: Redskins with 30 pts. Then Raiders with 23

1970s: Steelers with 48 pts. 2d were Cowboys with 46 pts. Then Raiders wit 26 pts.

Some variations on the scoring were made for the 60s and prior, but it came out this way:

    1960s: Packers 56 pts. 2d were Chargers 34 pts. 3rd Chiefs 27 pts.

1950s: Browns 57 pts. 2d were Lions 36 pts. 3rd Rams and Giants both with 25 pts.

    1940s: Bears 46 pts. 2d were Browns with 40 pts. 3rd Redskins 28 pts

1930s: Packers 52 pts. Giants 44 pts. Bears 32 pts.

1920s: Bears 43 pts. Bulldogs 30 pts. 3rd Packers and Yellow Jackets 19 pts each

Modell really? That piece of shit cost us Paul Brown, Kosar, our original Browns and a Superbowl... and that's just off the top of my head... ri·dic·u·lous

Modell can try and justify it any way he wants to... by saying that Cleveland wouldn't fund for a new stadium or whatever helps the prick sleep at night, but clearly the old stadium was much better...

Bring back Modell and the Browns might have a chance of winning. He has forgotten more about football than Holmgren and Heckert will ever know.

It is a shame how Lerner ownership has turned the Browns into shit.

Wouldn't it be better to bring back Mickey McBride. I mean, as an owner, his track record is second to none.

I mean, in the history of the Browns ownership you have The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

McBride is the good, Modell is the bad, and Lerner is the Ugly.

When the Browns were competing for team of the Decade honors, it was McBride, not Modell who was the owner in the 40s and 50s.

But, to be fair, the Browns did come in 6th in the Team of the Decade competition in the 1960s (2d if you only count NFL teams of that decade), after the Packers and some AFL teams, the Oilers, Chargers, Chiefs and Bills)

Hey Gip, based on your calculations does this make the Browns the most dominate team of all the "teams of the decades"

Well, they accumulated their point total by appearing in 7 out of 10 Championship games in that decade, plus being in the playoffs one other year.

The Packers in the 60s were in 6 Championship games.

What nudged them down a little is the fact that they did not appear in the playoffs in 4 of the 10 years in the 60s ('63,'64,'68,'69), where the Browns were in the playoffs for 8 years in the 50s.

But that brings up an interesting point here. I have gone back and checked to see which teams made the playoffs the most times in each decade and here is the result:

2000s: Eagles and Colts 8 times, Patriots 7 times. Ravens, Giants, Steelers, Packers 6 times.

1990s: Cowboys, Bills, and 49ers 8 times each. Dolphins, Chiefs and Vikings 7 times each. Lions, Steelers, Packers 6 times each.

1980s: 49ers 8 times. Rams and Browns 7 times each. (8 teams 5 times each)

1970s: Cowboys 9 times. Steelers and Vikings 8 times. Raiders, Rams, Dolphins 7 times each

1960s: Packers 6 times. Browns, Oilers, and Chargers 5 times each

1950s: Browns 8 times. Lions, Giants, Rams 4 times each

1940s: Bears 5 times. Redskins, Giants, Browns 4 times each

1930s: Packers and Giants 6 times. Bears 4 times

1920s: Bears 7 times. Yellow Jackets 3 times

Note: For the 20s, and for the first 3 years of the 30s there were no "playoffs". Playoffs?

I awarded points on the basis of 10 for a 1st place finish, 6 for 2d place, 3 for 3rd place.
