Here are the QBs taken in the Top 15 of the draft since 1995:

    1995 #3 Steve McNair, #5 Kerry Collins

    1998 #1 Payton Manning #2 Ryan Leaf

1999 #1 Tim Couch #2 Donovan McNabb #3 Akili Smith #12 Cade McNown

    2001 #1 Michael Vick

    2002 #1 David Carr #3 Joey Harrington

    2003 #1 Carson Palmer #7 Byron Leftwich

2004 #1 Eli Manning, #4 Phillip Rivers #11 Ben Roethlisberger

    2005 #1 Alex Smith

2006 #3 Vince Young #10 Matt Leinert #11 Jay Cutler

    2007 #1 Jamarcus Russell

    2008 #3 Matt Ryan

    2009 #1 Matthew Stafford #5 Mark Sanchez

    2010 #1 Sam Bradford

2011 #1 Cam Newton #8 Jake Locker #10 Blaine Gabbert #12 Christian Ponder

Some might argue that fully 50% of the QBs taken that early prior to 2007 can be considered overall busts.

So, that is the kind of crapshoot the Browns face with taking a QB high (and true, the same can be said for every position).

I am willing to take the risk with the Browns #4 pick...but not at the expense of either our other 1st rounder or 2d rounder to move up.

And the chances drop dramatically when drafting a qb lower than the first round.

Therefore, without all the pieces in place, the Browns can't afford to draft a new qb high, and miss.

Even if that qb is outstanding... he won't be his first year.

You have got a potential franchise quarterback within your grasp.

Colt McCoy is not the guy.

Play to win and draft RG3.

Play not to lose and don't trade up for RG3.

Take RG. OK....but fuck the trade.

If we take him by trading up and giving up our #4 and our #22 and he is one of the 50% that busts....then that means we will have wasted 2 TWO first round picks on him, not just one. And it means this franchise would be set back many more years because we will not only have wasted assets on him, but also assets that could have been used on TWO other potential quality players.

If switching from #4 to #2 plus a third round pick will work to get him, OK. But no additional first or second round picks. If two first round picks had to be used on him he had better be the second coming of John F.(as in Fucking) Elway. of Joe F. Montana..

I think you should look at the roster of NFL teams and most have have a 1st rd QB at the helm. There are exceptions of course but you are far more likely to get a franchise QB in round 1 than any other.

Would you settle for the second coming of Warren Moon? 🙂

I agree- we only trade up if:

    1) H&H are convinced Colt isn't the guy.

    2) and RGIII is.

I agree. Even if we have to trade, you play to win. If he is good enough to take at #4, you are assuming he is THE GUY, so paying more to make sure you get him isw a wise investment.

    End of story.

But, we may not have to trade up, and here is why. All we have to do is let the Skins or whoever know we can easily best their offer unless they start making crazy trade offers...

Also, consider this...say we don't want Griffin. Say we call the Skins or whoever and tell them they can get the guy going through us at a cheaper price. I doubt either the Rams or Vikes actually draft the guy, so from my perspective, it all rolls through us. We will either get Griffin at #4...it makes no real sense for them to simply drive up the price we have to pay since we can beat any offer they make, or we become the trade partner.

We could trade with the Skins as an example, drop a couple of slots and pick up a solid 3rd rounder....maybe even a 2nd rounder by giving back a 4th or 5th rounder.
