  • Bob, the 4 states are correct, as are the two countries. Larry Canada and Reggie and Willie Germany.

But, there are 11 more countries....or maybe 12 if an alternate name of a country is used.

Technically, I didn't count England because England per se is not the name of the sovereign nation, but there was a guy named England...Eric England who played....so I will give you that one as a bonus. The other three are correct.

  • How about Holland?

Holland was the 14th "alternative" named country I spoke of. There were 8 players named Holland that played in the NFL.

So I give it to you as another bonus point.

  • B. There are 13 sovereign nations that also have the same name as players that have played in the NFL. Name those countries.

(note: the Unitas States of America is not one of them. The spelling must be pretty much exact)

Germany, France, Spain, France, Brazil, Belarus, Cameroon, Chad, Chile, Fiji, Ireland, Jordan, Malta, Marshall Islands, Oman, Tonga, Trinidad

Those in bold are correct. With Oman....there was a player name Omon...so I give another bonus point though it was not one of my original 13. With Chile, there was a player named Chiles. I didn't count that among my 13....but I give another bonus point for being close.

There are still 4 countries not yet named (all the states have been given). Hint: like the "Marshall" Islands, one of them has a similary type name.

No, that was not a "wise" answer on your part. (yes, that's a hint)

    Answers:

    A. You have Joe Montana, Russell Maryland, Duane Missouri, and 58 players named Washington who have played in the NFL since its inception for the 4 states.

    B. List of players whose names were of sovereign nations, plus a few others:

    1. Larry Canada, Broncos RB 1979-81

    2. Darwin Ireland, Bears LB 94-95

    3. Robert Brazil, LB Oilers 75-84 (there was also a Larry Braziel)

    4. Paul Cuba, OT Eagles 1933-35. no one had Cuba

    5. Doug France and Todd France. Doug OT Rams 75-83, played at Ohio St. Todd K Bucs/Eagls 2005

    6. Ron and Steve Israel. Ron DB Vikes 2003. Steve DB Rams/49ers/Pats 1992-2001. No one had Israel.

    7. 31 players named Jordan, including Cameron Jordan, or is it Jordan Cameron?

    8. 28 players named Marshall as in Marshall Islands.

    9. Rob Monaco, Ray Monacom, Ron Monaco. Ray played in the 40s. Rob and Ron in the 80s. I don't know if related. No one said Monaco

    10. 5 players named Solomon as in Solomon Islands. Best known: Freddie Solomon, 49ers WR. No one had Solomon Islands.

    11. Dick Spain played for the Evansville Crimson Giants in 1921-1922. No one had Spain

    12. Manase Tonga, FB for the Raiders 2011 to current. Active

    13. Willie Germany and Reggie Germany. Reggie WR Bills 2001. Willie DB 4 teams, 1972-1976

Bonuses for: Holland, 8 players. Eric England, DE 94-98 (there was a Harry Englund as well...like the guy that played Freddie Krueger). Xavier Omon (Oman) RB currently with Broncos. Plus a player named Chiles. And there are some that are variations on countries, like Austin English. A few Switzers without the Land. There was one Jappe, and a couple of Burmans. Some Grecos, but no Romans. Several Turks but no Turkeys. A few Costas without the Ricos. One Kenyon, but no Kenyans.

As I understand it, Andrew Luck is supposed to be going to play for the Unitas Kingdom. DOH! By the way Johnny was not the only Unitas that played in the NFL. A Ray Unitas was in the league before he was.

The English would get pissed and say they are... somewhat sovereign. AS would the Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish 😛
