  • I found it interesting,Steve Young and Bernie Kosar were the only QB's in the history of the supplimental draft to make an impact on the league. Steve Walsh was the only other notable that I found but his career was lackluster at best.

  • i don't get the whole supplemental draft thing. why weren't these players in the regular NFL draft?

  • Some of them missed the deadline to declare. Say they have to declare by February and they didn't get the paper work in time or something like that. Some were going to go back to school for another year, but got in trouble and kicked off the team or got in trouble by the NCAA and couldn't play so they thought they'd try their luck in the Supplemental Draft.

Various reasons. Most players aren't very noteworthy, but every once in awhile you'll get an interesting story line. Kind of odd that we had an interesting player come through the Supplemental Draft two years in a row.

When Bernie came out the rules were different. You had to have your NCAA eligibility expire before you were draft eligible....or if you had graduated you could come out. There was no three year rule. Essentially it was a four year rule.

In Bernie's case, he graduated from Miami in three years. He was not eligible for the April draft, but after he got his diploma in June he was then eligible to declare for the Supplemental draft.

Bernie had choices: A. He could have stayed another year at Miami, but he had his friend Vinny who was ready to play. So Bernie chose to come out. B. I believe it was basically all worked out between the Browns/Bills and Bernie to manipulate the Supp draft so that the Browns could take him. If he didn't know that it was the Browns that he was going to, he may have stayed.

  • More relevent to our current situation: What about the WRs who went in the Supplemental draft? Just curious.

It looks to me like Gordon is the first WR to go in a supp draft since 1990?

Note: All those 1984 picks were from the USFL supplemental draft. Browns also got the likes of Kevin Mack and Mike Johnson in that draft.

Edit note: Numbers in red reflect a quality career from the supp draft WRs. Ice Cube special team numbers not reflected.
