Trivia For Columbus Day Week

The Browns Board
6 2 411
  • Since we already played the Bengals once this year I am forgoing the usual "opponents" trivia thread....and will just go for some various stuff.

    1. Which NFL team has gone the longest without winning a title that has stayed in its current location the longest (i.e. has not moved)

    2. What player has been a Hall of Fame Finalist the most number of times without being elected to the HOF?

    3. Name all the Super Bowl matchups (teams) that have occurred more than once.

    4. Name the 4 team franchises that have won the NFL title that no longer exist.

    5. Only twice in history has a city/region had 4 teams from that city/region make the Finals in the 4 major sports (NHL/NBA/NFL/MLB) in the same year. Name the city and years. (note: NFL year consists of the season the regular schedule is played, not the year of the Super Bowl)

    6. Which current Major League city (having a team in the NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA) has gone since 1915 without a championship?

    7. Sidetrack question: Name those colleges in the state of Ohio that were attended by a US President. (undergrad or graduate). Hint: 5 schools

    8. What 3 QBs that are in the Top Ten all time in games won as a starter in their careers did not win a title?

    9. Only 8 Quarterbacks in the History of the NFL/AFL have a regular season winning pct. as a starter that is over .700. Name the 8.

    Hint: 3 are active.

    10. As you know, Drew Brees set the record for most consecutive games with a TD pass, now at 48. However, there are 4 QBs who share the record of 13 consecutive games with at least TWO TDs passes in each game. Name those 4 QBs

Hint: 3 are active...but the 4th you have heard of, but you will have to pull him out of your ass.

  • I edited in some hints for the last couple of questions.

  • 1.... Detoilet

3.... Pitt vs dall, cincy vs. sf, dallas vs buff,

    8.... Marino, Tarkington, Moon

Your answers are all correct. However, there are still a couple of multiple SB matchups that you missed

Lame effort by you guys this week. Here are the anwswers:

    1. Which NFL team has gone the longest without winning a title that has stayed in its current location the longest (i.e. has not moved)

The Lions. The Cardinals have gone longer, but they have made 2 moves since they last won a title.

    2. What player has been a Hall of Fame Finalist the most number of times without being elected to the HOF?

The Packers Jerry Kramer was a HOF Finalist 10 times....but they never did elect him. Still haven't.

Second on the list was Dolphins Bob Keuchenberg..8 times. Then Ray Guy...7 times.

    3. Name all the Super Bowl matchups (teams) that have occurred more than once.

    Steelers/Cowboys only 3 time matchup

    Dolphins/Redskins

    Bengals/49ers

    Bills/Cowboys

Patriots/Giants (not sure how you could have missed that one)

    4. Name the 4 team franchises that have won the NFL title that no longer exist.

Akron Pros, Providence Steam Roller, Frankford(Philly) Yellow Jackets, Canton/Cleveland Bulldogs

    5. Only twice in history has a city/region had 4 teams from that city/region make the Finals in the 4 major sports (NHL/NBA/NFL/MLB) in the same year. Name the city and years. (note: NFL year consists of the season the regular schedule is played, not the year of the Super Bowl)

    A. 1980 Philadelphia Phillies/Eagles/Flyers/76ers

    B. 2000 New York/NewJersey Yankees/Mets/Giants/New Jersey Devils all made finals.

    6. Which current Major League city (having a team in the NFL/MLB/NHL/NBA) has gone since 1915 without a championship?

Vancouver. The Millionaires won the Stanley Cup in 1915. None since. Though the Canucks had a 3 game to 2 lead in the NHL Finals two years ago but blew it to the Bruins.

    7. Sidetrack question: Name those colleges in the state of Ohio that were attended by a US President. (undergrad or graduate). Hint: 5 schools

    Miami, Ohio: Benjamin Harrison

Hiram: James Garfield (did not graduate...transferred to William College, Mass.

    Kenyon: Rutherford B. Hayes

Ohio Central College...now merged into Muskingam: Warren G. Harding

Un. of Cincinnati Law School: Taft

    8. What 3 QBs that are in the Top Ten all time in games won as a starter in their careers did not win a title?

    #3 Dan Marino...147 wins

    #6 Fran Tarkenton...124 wins

    #10 Warren Moon...102 wins

Top 10 in wins QBs who did win titles: Favre, Elway, P. Manning, Brady, Unitas, Montana, Bradshaw

    9. Only 8 Quarterbacks in the History of the NFL/AFL have a regular season winning pct. as a starter that is over .700. Name the 8.

    Hint: 3 are active.

    In order of win pct.:

    Otto Graham .814

    Daryl Lamonica .784

    Tom Brady .774

    Sid Luckman .763

    Roger Staubach .746

Matt Ryan .716 (yep, Matt Ryan)

    Joe Montana .713

...and,until last night: Ben Roethlisberger .701. But with that loss I believe his career win pct. would now be slightly under .700

    (how's that for timing)

The 4 are: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers...and Don Meredith. Dandy Don held that record alone for nearly 40 years.

  • Note: I believe Otto Graham's .814 winning pct. is only for the years the Browns were in the NFL. If his AAFC days were included his win pct. would be much higher. (It is already the highest in history)
