Shurmer

  • I think Shurmur's station in life is as an offensive assistant. Holmgren should have recognized this.

We are a young, talented team that is not getting good coaching from the top.

Not only was the 4 & 1 decision atrocious, but how about the end of the first half: The refs gave Reggie Wayne and the Colts an amazing spot ... giving them a fourth and one instead of a fourth and three and an obvious punt. Shurmur needed to challenge that spot, there was undisputable video evidence that the ball was not spotted right. Instead, he does nothing. The Colts come out and on 4 & 1 deep in their own territory, pretend to go for it ... and the poorly coached Browns jump offsides. Just a very frustrating sequence of bad coaching ... that stuff doesn't happen to losing teams.

Truck Stop Jimmy looks like a guy that commands respect and he is going to want his team to command respect too. Shurmur is no leader. He will fire his ass at the Bye week if we lose the next two ... you can count on it.

That was a football game that needed to be won. Shurmur didn't have the balls to win it.

    Outcoached by Bruce Arians.

I was wondering if anybody else thought that was wayyyy short,I thought the same exact thing about the spot and no challenge. Just another instance where pattycakes showed he has no nuts.

  • @roach said:

We were talking about that. Someone said that you can't challenge a spot unless the result was a first down. Anybody know whether that is true?

I'm pretty sure you challenge the spot of the ball anytime.

Even with the most generous forward progress spot ever, he was more than a couple yards short.

You can only challenge the spot of the ball if it has an effect on a first down. So no, Shurmur could not challenge this play even though it was damned obvious the refs gave an amazing spot to the colts. A rule that clearly needs to be changed.

  • how can anyone truly evaluate shurmur as a head coach (and i'm no fan) when his fat assed puppet master is sitting in the king's chair at the board meeting table? do you REALLY think shurmur is the mastermind behind everything that happens on sunday? for christ's sake they don't even let childress call the plays even though that's why they brought him in here.

no shurmur will do as he is told until that fat fuck is finally out of cleveland and can no longer control things. unfortunately for shurmur that will be about the same time he gets his one way ticket out of town.

p.s. FUCK HOLMGREN!!!! fat fucking piece of shit. worse hire ever.

You sound like you don't like him maybe?

Don't hold it in, Mik. Sugarcoating not allowed.

  • The one mistake I think Holmgren made was the hire of his friends kid, but it was a big mistake because he fucking sucks as a head coach.

  • I like McDaniels also. Maybe his experience in Denver could have calmed him down somewhat. Maybe going back to Bill and Brady will help him see where he failed in Denver.

i like him too, as an offensive coordinator. i also agree with zombo that that is all shurmur will be. we've got enough ex-head coaches on staff already that if you shuffle things around and either let jauron or childress take over as HC you hire mcdaniels as off. coordinator (not saying he'd be my pick just saying) or some other young gun hot shot to take over the defense if jauron was promoted.

i really don't think this whole thing needs to be blown up.

hell i'd give shurmur another year as long as you know who is no longer around.

The one mistake??? Holmgren didn't do jack shit! He gave inspirational speaches after each season.

The fatass is looking to get back into coaching again now that he has had the last 3 years off.

  • man, i love the browns to death but if they decided to put holmgren on the sidelines i just might give up the 30+ years of rooting for and defending the name of this team.

why don't we just hire al grohl and be done with it. we can pick #'s to see who jumps off the suicide bridge first.

  • No way they put holmgren on the sidelines. He's already said he's out the door. If this happened it would be a first indication that the new group is no better than the last.

This team is definitely more talented than before. You can't deny that.

The year before he took over.

  • I just wish shurmur hadn't abandoned the run. The 4th down punt didn't bother me too much as the Colts went 3 and out...I can't really blame a guy for trusting his defense over his offense. If the offense develops some kind of consistency and stops losing games with dropped passes/transparent play-calling they will become trustworthy. I'm not defending Shurmur and will be very surprised if he isn't fired soon but my main beef is dropped passes(especially when the game is on the line). Overall, however, I'm certainly not as upset as most Brown's fans appear to be. How many people honestly saw this as a playoff contending team? This team is too young to play a full game, but I am interested to see how the chemistry of the team grows as the new owner gets a new HC and probably a pretty valuable draft pick.

Actually we are younger than before and have higher upside. But honestly 3 years and we aren't winning. look at our drafts, by no means have we hit homeruns with our picks.

Please don't tell me because a guy starts for us he is a good draft pick.

    Is Bruce Coslett available? 😎

How many homerun picks can you name from the last 3 drafts?

Not as much homeruns but teams who were just as crappy and able to turn it around. Look at Seattle, Arizona even the Rams. The Vikings

My point is Holmgren has had his time and hasn't turned to corner. We are again at the cross roads. We are a very young team and have some talent. When i look at our defense besides Haden no one really stands out. Now you don't always need players to stand out if you are playing well as a unit but we aren't doing that either..

Holmgren, Heckert and shurmur should all be shown the door. Lets get the right guys in here who wont make this a 10 year plan to have a 500 record.

We are so desperate for any signs we are grasping a positives. We are young.. big Fing dealing

seriously i don't think we are that bad. when healthy we have 2 dominant DLinemen, a very good and a decent DE, a shut-down corner and a good run stoppin safety. we are missing a couple of dominant LBs (we have a couple of young guys that are good and DQ if he can stay healthy) but i'd go defense with our first 3 picks next year unless there is a game changing WR staring us in the face.

on offense i think all we really need is depth on the line and a fucking monster fullback.
