Week 8 Positives... Yeah, There Really Were Some...

  • Wheezy:

    - showed more roll-out capability than he had all year;

    - looked to be surveying the field on the run even better than he does from the pocket;

    - zero INT's... again.

    Yeah he was only 11 for 27 for 129 and no TD's, but this week's weather demanded exactly the kind of game management, QB approach that he provided. I think this is where the old boy's, much promoted "maturity" is showing itself. Still a ways to go, IMO, to his being a full-blown, top-quartile, NFL QB, but cannot deny his progress to date.

    TR:

    - started running again...

    Nice, neat, if somewhat quiet, 24 for 122 effort and 1 TD, but forget the stats. Late in the 1st half TR started to finish runs again with a shoulder in the chest of tackler. Thought he regressed a tad at start of 2nd, but seemed to come on again later in that half as well.

    Gordo:

    Is looking smoother every week... and obviously prefers overcast days... 🙂

    John Hughes:

    Stepped up and contributed to another solid game by the D-line... Maybe he only did what should be expected, but when you come out of college with a "doesn't always work hard" tag, you have to praise good effort to reinforce it.

    Penalties:

    Only 4 for 35 yards...

  • Negatives

    Mitchell Schwartz needs to learn the speed and athleticism of defensive ends at the pro level.

    You can't take that deep of a set and expect the defensive ends not to bat balls at the line.

    Sheldon Brown needs to retire at the end of the season. He's been serviceable but he doesn't have the quickness to match receivers in man anymore, and while his instincts are still there, his reaction time seems to have dropped off. If you're going to give a receiver a 9 yard cushion, and then he breaks the route off underneath your zone, you have to make the play on him. Your eyes are in the backfield, you can't blame that on not recognizing the play.

  • Trent Richardson made some real strides today against what was supposed to be the best run defense in the league. He did have a couple plays where he danced into a tackler but all together he had a great game.

    Buster Skrine with that last play showed us why his athleticism is so valuable. We all know he isn't a great DB right now, but we drafted him as a raw player and if he continues to get better he will be a monster.

    Little had one drop, but he also had a catch where he saved a drive from dying. Last week he caught all the passes thrown his way, and this week he did well. He is getting better.

    Negatives would obviously include run defense and play calling. We can't expect to win when we go 4-15 on 3rd down and put together one scoring drive.

    Hopefully next week we play much better

  • WE HAD A SUNDAY WITHOUT HAVING TO WATCH MARECIC WHIFF BLOCKS AND DROP PASSES

    He should be inactive the rest of the year

  • It was nice to see Trent run between the guards without Marecic clogging up the hole

  • Put Marecic on ST or something, maybe he can do something there, but yeah, I dont think he should be starting at all.
