Bill Cowher

Just read on the ESPN ticker at the bottom of the screen that Bill Cowher does plan on returning to coaching at some point.
Here is a NFL.com story for more information;
Granted he has been out of the game for a while but I would be really upset with Haslam and Banner if they did not at least give Cowher a call to gage interest.

If Cowher were to return this year, San Diego is probably his preferred location. They will likely give him the personnel control he is seeking and Cowher loves Phillip Rivers...he would've drafted Rivers over Roethlisberger. Joe Banner probably is not that appealling to Cowher. This is assuming no one is going to break the bank to get Cowher. Cowher is probably making between 2-3 million with his CBS gig (wild ass guess, maybe its less, say $1.5M). Top coaches are making between 5-6 million. So is it worth it to get back into coaching putting in 16+ hours a day 7 days a week, hardly seeing his daughters for $5-6 million when he's making nearly half that and working nearly 1/2 that already? Once your making a few million dollars and have one a Super Bowl...what's going to motivate you to put in the kind of hours coaching in the NFL requires?
I think for Cowher to come back, he really needs something more. Someone needs to offer him in the $8M/yr+ range, maybe even the $10M/yr range. The same thing goes for Gruden...although moreso for Gruden as I believe Gruden makes even more than Cowher as he calls games and is a top analyst. Gruden is well on his way to John Madden status and will probably command top dollar when his TV contract gets renewed.

First of all Bill Cowher probably wouldn't screw the Rooney family.
Second, and most important, is that he wasn't the difference maker in Pittsburgh.
For all of us who danced with joy when he left the team believing the dynasty was finally over were handed a rude awakening.
Maybe it's human nature but it's a bad idea to take 1 piece of a larger puzzle and think you can build a whole new puzzle from it.

Good thing for you Steeler fans he didn't get that chance. Even though I can't stand Big Ben, he's the better QB by far.

Cowher's supposed love for the Rooney family isn't as deep is as you may believe it is. When Cowher won the Super Bowl the Rooney's didn't give Cowher a raise, the Rooney's didn't pay Cowher as one of the elite coaches in the league. It was one of the reasons Cowher left. Second Cowher was a difference maker in Pittsburgh. When Cowher got a lead of 11 points or more he had some ridiculous winning stat. Cowher got crap QBs to the AFC championship game. Cowher coached a boring as hell game, but he was a more solid coach than Tomlin.

As I understand it, Cowher is interested in one and only one job: The New York Giants. I understand that he now basically lives in NYC.
His statement that he would want to return to coaching "some day" means that the day in question is when Tom Coughlin retires. The Jets might be secondary...but he still wants NYC..
