@SportsCenter: Packers have told safety Charles Woodson they will be releasing him, a source familiar to the situation has told ESPN's @AdamSchefter.

I would love to see us make a play for Woodson. He is my favorite safety to play the game based on not only his play but his character as well.

He was born and raised only an hour outside of Cleveland and he's the kind of ballhawking safety we need to complement Ward. If we got two or three solid season out of him, he would be completely worth it.

He won't come here unfortunately. According to the report he wants to play for a contender (usually the case I suppose). I'd bet the Broncos make a play for him because it's obvious they could use some safety help. Also, the guy has broken his collarbone twice in two years. Lord knows he'd be better than anything we put opposite of Ward though.

Too many injuries lately and too old. Great player but I agree with jrb...he's going to a contender.

    Ya, he's not coming here.

If we are in the market for an old saftey, the guy Buffalo just cut, Wilson, might give us a couple decent years.

Yea, Woodson is probably over the hill. And to my recollection he was always a corner, not a safety, though maybe he made the switch later in his career. In my opinion he was always a bit overrated.

Plus, he is a scumbag MFCS in that he was an Ohio native who went to play for Michigan. Just like Desmond Howard and many others.

And he was never as good a CB as his contemporary who played CB for OSU: Antoine Winfield.

If we were choosing sides and could take either of them in their prime, I would choose Winfield.

I just know this: Winfield could cover and could tackle better than Woodson.

Perhaps those things just don't mean much.

I had my thoughts jumbled together from excitement.

He's my favorite corner to play, but I would like him to make the move to safety if he came to us.

He's the only person in the NFL to have had six consecutive seasons with an INT returned for a TD, and has had 9 of them in the past 7 years.

    I say we sign him.

    No bias at all.

Woodson may be old but he can still play safety. He can tackle too.

I mean, he's not coming here, but I can dream.

    I'll buy a #16 Robinson and a #21 Woodson

like TCPO the guy was/is a rock solid safety, my fave since eric turner. him and ward would be dynamite. but the big thing to me is the veteran leadership that he would bring to the table. imagine him tutoring the secondary? we'd jump up a major level signing him.

the injury was a broken collar bone. once that's healed it's not a problem.

BUT like most have said he'd want to go to a championship level team....we ain't there yet.

One of my favorite plays by him. Best quality I could find

The guy is 36 (6 years older than Weeden, OMG!!!). Seeing as the Browns is a long term project at present (though a good one at that), getting him makes no sense to me. And, the last thing I'd want is to drop big money on someone who is that old and has been susceptible to injury. Stay young and keep building with the occasional free agent under 30.
