Compare The Qb Classes
-
OK, since it was brought up in another thread, lets compare the QB classes of 2012, 2011, and lets throw in 2010 just for shits and giggles. Here they are, first draft position, then name:
2012:
1. Andrew Luck
2. Robert Griffin III
8. Ryan Tannehill
22. Brandon Weeden
57. Brock Osweiler
75. Russell Wilson
88. Nick Foles
102. Kirk Cousins
185. Ryan Lindley
243. BJ Coleman
253. Chandler Harnish
2011:
1. Cam Newton
8. Jake Locker
10. Blaine Gabbert
12. Christian Ponder
35. Andy Dalton
36. Colin Kaepernick
74. Ryan Mallett
135. Ricki Stanzi
152. TJ Yates
160. Nathan Enderle
180. Tyrod Taylor
208. Greg McElroy
2010:
1. Sam Bradford
25. Tim Tebow
48. Jimmy Clausen
85. Colt McCoy
122. Mike Kafka
155. John Skelton
168. Jonathan Crompton
176. Rusty Smith
181. Dan Lefevour
204. Tony Pike
209. Levi Brown
239. Sean Canfield
250. Zac Robinson
So? Which class takes the brass ring? Clearly not 2010. I believe ONLY Bradford remains a starting QB...unless you count Skelton as the incumbent in AZ.
2011 has 6 starters. 2012 has 5 unless you also count Nick Foles then it is 6. (though wouldn't Vick be considered the incumbent in Philly)
2011 does have one thing over 2012, so far: a QB that took his team to the Super Bowl in Kaepernick.

Without listing all QBs drafted, here are some contributors from the classes of 2005 to 2009:
2009
1. Matt Stafford
5. Mark Sanchez
17. Josh Freeman
201. Curtis Painter
2008
3. Matt Ryan
18. Joe Flacco
57. Chud Henne
160. Josh Johnson
2007
1. Jamarcus Russell
22. Brady Quinn
36. Kevin Kolb
92. Trent Edwards
2006
3. Vince Young
10. Matt Leinert
11. Jay Cutler
49. Kellen Clemens
64. Tavaris Jackson
194. Bruce Gradkowski
2005
1. Alex Smith
24. Aaron Rodgers (would you trade anyone from 2005 to present for him?)
25. Jason Campbell
67. Charlie Frye
106. Kyle Orton
213. Derek Anderson
230. Matt Cassell
250. Ryan Fitzpatrick
2005 had some late depth, but only really 1 apparent HOF type talent.
Could 2012 end up looking like this? Or like 06 or 07?

Man I remember on here when a lot of people had the Dan Lefevour fever. So how is he doing these days?

The most prolific year for QBs of recent vintage was the 2004 draft. The thing about that year is that there were tons more QBs taken that year than in most years. Hear they are. Some names are a blast from the past:
1. Eli Manning Ole Miss
4. Phillip Rivers NC St.
11. Ben Roethlisberger Miami Oh.
22. JP Losman Tulane
90. Matt Schaub Virg.
106. Luke McCown La. Tech
148. Craig Krenzel, Ohio St.
185. Andy Hall, Delaware
187. Josh Harris, Bowling Green
193. Jim Sorgi, Wisconsin
201. Jeff Smoker, Mich St.
202. John Navarre, Michigan
217. Cody Pickett, Washington
218. Casey Bramlett, Wyoming
225. Mike Mauck, LSU
248. BJ Symons, Texas Tech
250. Bradlee Van Pelt, Colo. St.

2004 and 1983 are generally considered to be the top years in which QBs have come into the league, but beyond that which years should possibly also be compared to them? There may be some other seasons that could be considered prime QB producing seasons. Here are the years in history in which the draft has produced at least 2 starting QBs that started at least 100 games in their careers. The years and the QBs listed (note...of course recent vintage QBs not listed because it would take at least 7 years for a QB to start 100 games.:
2001 Drew Brees, Michael Vick
1998 Peyton Manning, Matt Hasselback
1995 Steve McNair, Kerry Collins
1993 Drew Bledsoe, Marc Brunell, Trent Green
1990 Jeff George, Neil O'Donnell
1987 Vinny Testaverde, Jim Harbaugh, Rich Gannon, Steve Beuerlein, Chris Miller
1984 Boomer Esiason, Bernie Kosar, Jay Schroeder
1983 John Elway, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Ken O'Brien
1979 Phil Simms, Joe Montana
1977 Tommy Kramer, Steve DeBerg
1975 Steve Bartkowski, Steve Grogan
1973 Bert Jones, Ron Jawoski, Joe Ferguson, Dan Fouts
1971 Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, Dan Pastorini, Lynn Dickey, Ken Anderson, Joe Theismann
1965 Craig Morton, Joe Namath
1962 Roman Gabriel, John Hadl
1961 Norm Snead, Billy Kilmer, Fran Tarkenton
1957 John Brodie, Len Dawson, Milt Plum, Sonny Jurgenson, Jack Kemp
1949 Norm Van Brocklin, George Blanda
1948 Bobby Layne, YA Tittle
1944 Otto Graham, Bob Waterfield
I personally think that the 1957 class could be considered up there with '83 and '04. Two Hall of Famers and two near HOFers. HOF in italics.
