Hoyer to Start! (Updated)

Wow, you guys are duds. My dad has season tickets and I go with him. Well, we go to the opener, and then sell the rest of the tickets. Just like we did this season. I'll watch the disgrace from my couch

Brady replaced Bledsoe because of injury. Brady was a sixth round pick and was actually the 4th string qb originally. Brady also played in Michgan, although the Wolverines not the Spartans.
Nice ... let me add this: New England was 0-2 coming off a 5-11 season when Brady made his first start.
They won the Super Bowl.
Hoyer spent three years backing up Brady.

I DVR'd the preseason so I'm going to go back and check out Hoyer to see what I can see...

I'm down with it. I really am. It's logical.
Weeden is going to see a hand specialist, which makes me think of Kurt Warner's three lost years trying to get his "thumb injury" to heal before he got good again. It's going to be a bigger deal, as one of the radio dudes said. And to keep the metaphor going, whatever loose hold Weeden had on the starting job is gone.
If Brian Hoyer had become available earlier, I seriously doubt Jason Campbell is a Brown. We don't know if they're right or wrong just yet, but Lombardi and Banner think Hoyer just might have what it takes to be a really good NFL quarterback. Sobo (of OBR and other outlets now) wrote back in early August that Hoyer wasn't REALLY the third string QB. Over the course of the season, he might be closer than Campbell to taking Weeden's job.
Why? Because Campbell will be 32 this season. His lot is cast: He's a backup and spot starter. Weeden is almost certainly gone. The one guy with at least a flicker of a future in Cleveland... is Hoyer. Oh, it's way more likely that he'll be backing up Tajh Boyd next year but there's at least a glimmer of hope that the 27-year-old Hoyer can make smart decisions, but the ball in the hands of the playmakers, get the ball out way faster than Weeden.
As Pluto said... "Why not?"

I tend to agree with this. The depth chart was smoke and mirrors.
1 - Weeden - First Rounder is why he is #1
2 - Campbell - Seniority
3 - Hoyer - Last guy signed - (But front office favorite)
All behind closed door politics

Ordering my Hoyer jersey now.
Best choice available... IMO... but not expecting any miracles. There's still the line and a less than threatening assemblage of WRs.
Ordering my Hoyer jersey now.
LOL...

We just needed a backup named Brian to rescue the franchise again ...
I miss the white face masks...
Hoyer is going to come into that game, and show the difference in QB mind vs Big Arm. There aren't
many Brian Sipes or Bernie Kosars around for the Browns. And Hoyers ball placement is really, really smart.
Agree... classic overachiever vs. underachiever scenario. Hoyer, like Sipe and Bernie, had to work his ass off to maxmize average attributes. Wheezy, like many others, had the physical tools to get by on until he reached the NFL. Jamarcus Russell is the ultimate example of the latter... ditto for Vince Young... and I feel Pryor is another.
Zombo said:
"I think we have ourselves a quarterback!" --Been rehearsing that line for 15 years.
LOL... I used it once, when Sipe first went in for Phipps and was wagging his finger at linemen for getting Phipps killed.

LOL... figures we'd make the first outdoor SB north of the Mason-Dixon... Don't forget your longjohns.

The narrative of this decision writes itself for the nostalgic and optimistic at heart. A former Browns front office member becomes the general manager years down the road. His new head coach was a dog bone-eating Browns fan while he was growing up a few miles west of the lakefront town. The two men sign a kid from Lakewood, Ohio who attended Cleveland’s St. Ignatius who just happened to sit behind New England’s Tom Brady, the same Tom Brady who sat behind Drew Bledsoe before shocking the world and becoming a model-marrying, Super Bowl-winning, Ugg boot-wearing A-List celebrity just a few years after being a doughy sixth-round draft pick.
In contrast, the decision could simply result in the perpetual embarrassment that Browns fans have been forced to endure for the last two weeks. Where the Browns are offensively, as Chudzinski stated, is essentially quicksand. Scoring just one touchdown in two weeks places the Browns second-last in the NFL in scoring. They’re among the league’s worst in yards per game (275.0); garbage time has allowed their passing yardage (219.0 per game) to be ranked considerably better when compared to peers.
“We’re 0-2 right now,” said Chudzinski. “We’re looking to shake things up. We hope this will give us the spark that we need.”
Hoyer, a fifth-year pro, has started one career game in his NFL career, a loss to NFC-winning San Francisco 49ers at the tail end of last season. It was a respectable outing which featured a 53-yard pass to then-rookie Michael Floyd. He was released by the Cardinals late this past offseason and was promptly scooped up by the Browns on a two-year deal. His transition from free agent to starting quarterback was one that featured sweatpants as Hoyer was listed as inactive one week earlier.

Apparently this call (Hoyer) caused the Vikes to go scrambling:

The Minnesota Vikings spent Monday and Tuesday preparing for Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell after a thumb injury knocked starter Brandon Weeden out of Sunday’s game.
However, the Browns sent the Vikings scrambling Wednesday with their announcement that the Brian Hoyer will be the starter Sunday at Mall of America Field.Trents' thoughts on Hoyer :
While Hoyer hasn’t had much of a chance to impress the rest of the NFL, Browns running back Trent Richardson is convinced the Michigan State product will be a pleasant surprise for Cleveland fans and a bitter surprise for opponents.
“I’m glad people have been sleeping on Hoyer so when he comes out to surprise people it will be a bigger shock to the world,” Richardson said.
“He’s got a big arm. He’s got a real big arm. He makes smart decisions and he’s very precise on what he (does). When he calls audible or has to kill the play, he’s making smart calls. Hoyer is a smart dude.”So at least Hoyer is capable of Audibling, as there is still some question as to whether Weeden can Audible or not.

there are no audibles in Norv's system...

^ Well he can help with the line calls then... we need that for sure...
I love that Hoyer got TR's endorsement... and then TR is traded... Priceless!
"Anyone else want to praise Brian?"
================================================================
Anywho... just watched Hoyer's locker room interview after he was given the "good news".
Kid looked calm, cool and collected. Kinda liked the change from Wheezy's usual gosh-golly, semi-deer-in-the-headlights routine

Well, he was a St. Ignatius player (local high school team) so he is home grown. Give him a chance.

Hope he lights it up.

If the first move he has to make is ducking a D lineman and the recievers keep dropping good passes, then my prediction is....we're screwed again. May as well bring in Tebow. Maybe prayer can overcome Lombardi and Banner

I've got to tell you I think you're overreacting a bit. If anything I like banner and Lombardi more now. Theyre not scared to shake it up. Face it. Weeden and Richardson were going nowhere.

I like the move to Hoyer. We know what we have in Campbell....a back-up QB. Hoyer is a local kid with no real history as a starter. I say start him and see. Who knows, maybe he finds his groove and we won't need to use a pick on a QB in the next draft. It would be wonderful if we didn't. With all the picks we have we could address a lot of holes.
