  • Btw goblins are much tougher than elves. Everyone knows this.

  • It's not actually an elf you know. According to lore a brownie is a house spirit most closely related to a hobgoblin. It does chores and favors in return for food but you must never gift it clothes. This is the surest way to offend it and ensure it never comes back. This is the only acceptable argument against changing the uniform.

    From the Wiki:

In folklore, a brownie resembles the hob, similar to a hobgoblin. Brownies are said to inhabit houses and aid in tasks around the house. However, they do not like to be seen and will only work at night, traditionally in exchange for small gifts of food. Among food, they especially enjoy porridge and honey. They usually abandon the house if their gifts are called payments, or if the owners of the house misuse them. Brownies make their homes in an unused part of the house.

Folklorist John Gregorson Campbell distinguishes between the English brownie, which lived in houses, and the Scottish ùruisg or urisk, which lived outside in streams and waterfalls and was less likely to offer domestic help.[1] The ùruisg enjoyed solitude at certain seasons of the year. Around the end of the harvest, he became more sociable, and hovered around farmyards, stables and cattle-houses. He particularly enjoyed dairy products, and tended to intrude on milkmaids, who made regular libations of milk or cream to charm him off, or to gain his favour. He was usually seen only by those who possessed second sight, though there were instances when he made himself visible to ordinary people as well. He is said to have been jolly and personable, with flowing yellow hair, wearing a broad blue bonnet and carrying a long walking staff.

    incorrectamundo.

that's the misconception nearly everyone has, that it's an elf named Brownie...but it's not.

a bunch of peeps being wrong about something for 50 years doesn't make it true...but the origin is slowing coming out.

    finally.

a brownie is a species of creature, like a nymph, a sprite, or a hob.

they are 'elf-ish'...but not elves in truth.

the classic Cleveland Browns icon is simply a brownie that happens to also be named Brownie, similar to a human named Human.

calling him 'Brownie the elf' was just a way of categorizing the obscure to pedestrian fans.

and that my friends, is the rest of the story.

  • Told you, richiswhere. Boom.

  • BOOM!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge proponent of Brownie, but that just looks like a mischievous drunken hobo.

no you're thinking of the notre dame fighting leprechaun on saint patrick's day.

seen too many of those little fucks in my lifetime.

they can't hold they smoke or drink.

  • I'm psyched for Brownie to come back. I have a Brownie the Elf sticker on my car and whenever people ask what it is and I tell them they all love it. Brownie is unique in a league where everyone is named after either a bird or a cat. I do hope they are able to incorporate him into the uniform. I always thought he would look good on the sleeves, to serve as a replacement for the "AL".

On a slightly similiar note, has anyone bought a Browns jersey recently? I go to buy a jersey and it looks like the "AL" is still on the sleeve. I want to get one without it on there.

  • I wouldnt buy a jersey till the new design comes out.

  • did anyone there see Brownie/

it didn't get any attention on tv that i saw.

  • I did not but who cares? We won.
