While you are answering the above questions, here is some interesting data on this year's MLB playoff matchups or potential matchups:
In the NL, the Cardinals and Pirates will engage in a playoff series. Since 1969 these two teams have NEVER met in postseason play before
The Braves and Dodgers are now meeting for the second time in history in the postseason.
If the Pirates and Dodgers meet in the ALCS it will be the second postseason matchup in history for those two.
If the Pirates meet the Braves it will be the third time those two have met in postseason
If the Cardinals meet the Dodgers it will be the 4th time those teams will have met in postseason.
If the Cardinals meet the Braves it will be the 5th time those team will have met in postseason.
In the AL the A's and Tigers are meeting for the 4th time in history in the postseason.
If the Indians win tonight it will become the 5th time the Red Sox and Indians will have met in postseason play. That will match the most times in history for two AL teams to have faced each other in the postseason with 5 meetings. Right now the most in the AL is the Red Sox and Angels having met 5 times.
If the Rays play the Red Sox it will become the second time those two teams will have met in the postseason.
If the Red Sox and As meet up with each other in the ALCS, it will also be the 5th time those two teams will have met in postseason, tieing the Red Sox/Angels matchup.
Note, however if the Red Sox and Tigers meet in the ALCS, it will be the FIRST time those two teams will have ever met in postseason play.
If the Indians meet either the As or the Tigers in the ALCS, it will be the FIRST time those teams will have matched up in the postseason.
The same is true of the Rays and the As and Tigers, it will be the FIRST time any of those teams will have met in the postseason
-
For the Indians, their playoff matchups have been as follows:
Red Sox...4 times...Won 2 Lost 2
Yankees...3 times..Won 2 Lost 1
Orioles...2 times...Won 1 Lost 1
Mariners...2 times..Won 1 Lost 1
Rays....now 1 time...as mentioned, the one game Wildcard game counts as a postseason series. Results?
The results are they are no 0-1 in postseason series with the Rays.
They are also as follows in the World Series:
vs. Dodgers 1-0
vs. Braves 1-1
vs. Giants 0-1
vs. Marlins 0-1
-
OK, well, note I have lined out any of the scenarios dealing with the Indians.
