Running back, playoffs

  • Another thought is signing a true FB, then having Ogby join the committee more. Baltimore dropped TD included, Ogby is contributing running and receiving more than a typical FB (is there even such a thing anymore other than Vonta Leach? and which is part of the Norv plan having him at "FB" I assume).

Go get a goal line blocking FB, then use McGahee, Rainey, Ogby and Fonzy to game situation and their strengths.

The running game got the job done vs. Cincy. Got a couple momentum-building first downs, kept play-action useful, helped close the game out.

With our normal 46-man roster though, can we carry five RB/FB?

  • Fozzy Whittaker highlights from his days in Texas:

(Just out of curiosity guys....why now when you post a youtube video on here does the link only show up instead of the actual video as has been the case for some years now?)

Some things to note about this video: I think this Fozzy Bear ought to be put in their to return kickoffs. He looks a damn site better than what we have returning kickoffs now. Also, he seems to run a lot of WildDawg, taking the direct snap from center. Plus, he seems very effective when he is thrown a screen pass.

I am sure the hope is that he can be a replacement for the kind of game they expected Dion Lewis to give us....that Darren Sproles type player (that Norv likes well).

i was just thinking that we were trying to replace dion lewis with this guy. we need a smaller, shifty, quick, agile, and versatile back in our system. which is exactly why we shipped out mr. glorified goal line back AKA mr. 3 yards per carry

It looks like CAN and has the talent to do that. It will just take a few weeks to get him up to speed in the offensive system. Until then, a few nice ST contributions will work. Doubt he even dresses tonight.

To answer that last question... No. at least one would be inactive each game. And, our short yardage blocking FB has been Barnidge moving to the backfield in a 2 TE set. I don't think he's been a great blocker in that situation and needs to improve to keep that gameplan in tact.

apparently vickers is out there without a job. ffs, i dunno if he's still got it but he couldn't be worse than marecic. And the last time we had a great rushing season he was a major contributing factor.

  • Hell Hillis is out there without a job too. I would bring back the Hillis/Vickers backfield in a heartbeat over what we've got goin right now. Those guys are gonna keep lb'ers from dropping into coverage more than the terrifying Chris Obgonnaya and Willis McGahee.

Dear god I loved Hillis more than most but the headcase needs to stay away. Dude got fucking married during the season. I like the guys we got.

lets not forget he took LESS money than he was offered in cleveland to be the STARTER to go be the BACKUP in kansas city. why would anyone want him back? would i be upset if we signed him? no. but im not for it

It's just that we could sign him now for literally nothing, and he'd have literally no standing anymore to be any sort of prima donna in the lockeroom so I would imagine he wouldn't be a problem. He's not the guy he was in 2010 but we don't necessarily need that, we just need a guy who will hit the hole he's supposed to...which he does...and hits it hard for a couple yds. And don't forget he has great hands catching out of the backfield. For league minimum at this point i would think it's a no brainer.

Dion is the only guy I think has potential. I don't see any of the guys we got running right now being the starter next season.

while part of me thinks the exact same thing, you still have to wonder why he's not in the NFL right now. there's a reason me and you aren't working in front offices or on coaching staffs in the league, maybe teams see/know something we dont. maybe hillis is just not getting a fair shake. who knows. but id say its safe to bet there a reason no one wants him

i think the reason is his skills have fallen off and people still remember how he left cleveland. Actions have consequences. If he was still the runner he was in 10 you bet people would be signing him regardless of his personal issues. The only reason I'd sign him is that I think he can still get 3 to 4 yds when we need it. Especially if he has Vickers infront of him again, or some other beast FB. More than Hillis I want another beast FB again cause I think he could open up run lanes for whoever is running behind him. I think Trent would have done better in Cleveland had he had Vickers infront of him. I don't know why people don't like FB's anymore but I honestly think they're gonna come back in a big way especially if they fiddle with blocking rules next season which it sounds like they are. Running games are gonna have to go back to man up direct blocking if they outlaw dive blocks.

  • Reports came out of TB that he had an entitled attitude and basically coasted through workouts. Looking back, it's pretty obvious.

The only time he had a productive season was his first year as a starting RB. He was the lead man in Cleveland. There were no other offensive threats. He ate up the attention and played the humble, God fearing Southerner card. After he had one decent season, he let it get to his head. He stopped practicing and began feigning injury. He left Cleveland mid-week to get married in Arkansas. He let his agent whisper in his ear and he gave zero fucks about the consequences.

Hillis doesn't really care and that's his problem.

As a FB for Denver, he didn't care. He was a FB. As a backup for KC, he didn't care. He was a backup. As a backup for TB, he didn't care. Once again, he was a backup.

He wants to be lead man and he wants the rules not to apply to him.

Now nobody in the NFL cares about him...and my bet is that he doesn't care.

  • ^ Good Post.

  • Nothing wrong with a rental. We'll draft a back around round 3 and get Lewis back... you know, treat the position with some freaking restraint? "Free agent running back" is a scary term unless the guy is a diamond in the rough with very little mileage on him.... like Dion Lewis.

Would you take Tate if the price was right?

  • @erie-dawg said:

Well your kind of right. Starting in 2012, the NFL and the NFLPA reached an agreement allowing one player placed on injured reserve to be brought back to the active roster.[3] Provided that the player was on the final 53-man preseason roster (A rule exempted for the 2012 season), and that the injury is deemed to keep this player unable to practice or play football for an estimated six weeks, the player may be allowed to practice after Week 6, and be activated to play after Week 8.[4]

Teams may also place a player on injured reserve with a minor injury designation, but the team must release the player once he is healthy

    That one player is Pinkston.

    Lewis went on season-ending IR

Not to but in but thats a very broad question.

what is the right price in your mind.

  • It really looks like MJD is out of gas. I wouldn't give much of anything for him. I think a trade of Greg Little to Detroit for Mikel Leshoure would be worth a shot. If it works out great and if not you cut him next year. That is the fate of Little anyway.

    Agree.... too many miles.

I like Tate But not the price tag.

Damn good RB... What is the "price tag"?

  • fuck it let's go with Lewis and McGahee.
