  • Giving up on the FO and the coaches already? I thought it took at least two years before fans did that.

You must be a new browns fan. It only takes between 2 - 4 games before the fans start calling for the coach, fo, and players heads. That's been situation normal for the browns for 10 years.

  • nope not giving up on anything. just hoping to see improvement week to week.

the GLARING fact is that we have led all of these games going into the locker room at halftime.

so you tell me (not trying to be a smartass) whose blame do you put that on? the players? or the coaches, that we've lost half of those games games coming out in the 3rd quarter and laying a nice fat frothy turd on the fifty in front of the home fans?

It's equally on both. I think Norv gets conservative but the offensive players, namely the QBs (both Hoyer and Weeds looked bad coming into the 3rd quarter), look flat. This in turn doesn't help the D because you put them out there at least 3 times in the 3rd quarter alone. The offense needs to sustain drives coming out of halftime. Most teams in the NFL will be able to make a comeback if your offense can't at least put some points on the board in the second half.

Granted the D did play their worst game of the year last week. No pressure on the QB, gave up 20+ points in the second half but I think the bigger problem has been the offense.

The offense does not execute well in the second half. In turn that is also one of the big problems with Weeds, his inconsistancies. He will look average to good in the first half and then lays a giant egg in the second.

I do think that Weed's grasp of the offense holds back the playcalling, though Norv does seem to get inconsistant in the second half when we have the lead.

So it's 50/50 down the middle. The offensive playcalling gets too conservative and the running game is non-existant, while the players also come out flat.

Nah, not new. I just would think this current group would get a little more leeway based on their track records. I know Lombardi gets a lot of hate but I feel the FO has been pretty solid thus far and this team really looks like a good QB away from being playoff contenders.

That is our MO. I like how they tried to sneak lombardi as our GM. What was his title in the offseason?

  • LoL at this whole FO sucks thread.

so from what I gather from LBC is that he is butt hurt because this FO hasnt made the predictable knee jerk reaction of qb by committee. We know weeds isnt the answer, But they know that all of the currently unemployed qb's are'nt the answer either.

Bringing in a new qb bi-weekly does nothing but create negativity in the locker room and bad press for the city and organization.

    commentator.

on nfl network or hbo sports (i forget which one ) but he sucked balls doing that as well.

    fucking guido.

  • not butt hurt. just sore. not really a knee jerk reaction. just a move to correct either the QB situation or adjust it so a lab monkey can run the offense and not flick the ball like a piece of poo.

i don't know if he's saying that at all, and if he is i'll disagree with him on that point that you specifically made.

my take on this rant is a VERY VERY valid point:

this dream team of a coaching staff is falling far short of that title. leading EVERY FUCKING GAME at halftime and lose 50% of them do to lack of ingenuity in the play calling, making the appropriate adjustments and just plain lack of intensity. like they haven't trained this team to play a whole 60 mins. they (the team) has looked great from 0.0 on the clock to 30.0 on the clock. but after that it looks as though someone slipped some vicodins in their gatorade.

yo, check out phil taylor after the half. he keeps scratching his elbows and shit.

  • sorry the bottle is up. will be up on sunday too. Weeden sucked the joy of my sundays.

FO has my support. Dumping TRich for a first rounder was masterful in my opionion

BTW, it would take some time for me to get used to 10:00am kickoffs on Sundays in cali. Do the sports bars open that early or do you have to get your own?

    makers_mark_Bourbon_bottle.jpg

  • They open early. 9 am for football. I have been getting NFL ticket for years now. only way to watch the browns. Sports bars here just show the bandwagon team of the season on the main tv. the browns are usually on the smaller tv in the corner of the bar. Half time is usually at 11am makes it hard to start having beer that early. Weeden helps that though.

  • i used to live in AZ and traveled 20 mins to a huge sports bar that opened at 9AM.

the problem was they didn't start selling booze until noon, so image that hammer dropping on the waitresses and bartenders come 11:59.

    where's my drink beocht?

meanwhile it didn't stop us from brown baggin it in the parking lot until then. eh. eh.

  • in long beach because of the port. some bars open at 6am and serve booze then.

well they prob have the whole US navy to serve too, correct?

    anything for a vet.

  • First, it's the quarterback. It almost always is. Teams don't play the same very weekend and our defense had a bad second half. It happens against great quarterbacks because the rules are rigged to benefit the offense and passers/catchers, not coverage guys.

What to do? Keep the fuck up. And you have to have your version of Matt Stafford. The difference between the two guys was SO glaring it was ridiculous. Stafford is fiery, determined, an obvious team leader. Weeds looks distracted and disconnected and, at least on the field, stupid and rattled. Both guys have enormous arms (some say Stafford's is the league's best) but only one gets the ball out and is consistently accurate (not perfect... but getting more and more consistent each year).

The Browns know this. Yes, they knew it during the offseason and contacted a lot of teams about QBs, ending up signing two and by default giving Weeden a chance to excel in an offense that suits him perfectly. Well, it didn't work, but the Browns just didn't like Geno enough and I think they just BARELY didn't like E.J. enough that high in the draft.

I like Manuel. He was my favorite in the draft. He's a man, an alpha, a leader, and he looked pretty freaking solid before the injury. He may end up great. I just didn't have quite that grade on him. I had a "could be very good," and the Browns decided that just wasn't enough.

He would be ranked well below Bridgewater and Mariota, absolutely no doubt. Quite a bit, actually. Bridgewater is already playing like an NFL quarterback and Mariota is a physical marvel in the Kaepernick mold, only better at everything: Faster, more polished as a passer, talks less like a 15-year-old surfer (!), etc. If Kaep went back in the draft, he'd obviously go top 5. And Mariota is better.

Both of those guys are going top 3 with Clowney in the mix (but not with a bullet). The next tier (Boyd off a bad game, Hundley sinking like a rock, Manziel, Murray, Mettenberger, then Carr) all have plenty to get excited about... but not like the clear top 2.

The Browns will absolutely want to get to one of those two guys. Can they? Well, they could lose out and draft third, trade up to 2nd if it isn't TB. The Giants won't draft a QB, for instance.

This administration has done everything right and clearly proven they understand the league we play in, circa 2013. They would NOT have drafted Richardson and probably wouldn't have made the Julio Jones trade. I think they would've drafted a back in round 3, like Bernard Pierce.

They absolutely robbed Indy to tee up getting the franchise guy next year. They traded fourths and fifths in a bad draft for 3rds and 4ths in a good one. They bought a lot of pass rushers in a "Pass the Ball, Rush the Passer League." They got Bess and Hoyer, committed to Jordan Cameron and made him what the last hot messes couldn't (and they were a fucking mess). They did everything but get the QB, frankly.

We will have a special guy very high up in the draft next season. They'll fill in other holes through fee agency and a couple of second round picks and a third (after some maneuvering). They've looked like a leadership group that truly gets it. Finally.

The last one signed Delhomme, drafted Colt McCoy, and traded up to take a RB at #3... and not in 1977. They did stupid, indefensible, illogical things. They got ripped and rightfully so. They drafted a 28-year-old quarterback for the wrong offense, coming from a quirky spread system and making few NFL tight-window throws. Holmgren worked country club hours while Heckert drank and whored. They were just dreadful.

Banner, Lombardi, Chud, Norv, and Horton are NOT hot messes. They just don't have a quarterback and that's sort of the end of that conversation. If you don't got your guy, you're done.

And reading that Rodgers thought he would be a Brown just makes we wanna puke. We've passed on so many franchise quarterbacks it's just absurd, trying to make it work with Charlie Frye or Colt McCoy. Yikes.

  • good post shep. that was somewhat calming.

there used to be a naval station it got shut down a few years back and not it just the port personel. Long beach used to be a huge naval town

THANKS SHEP. NOW I WANNA PUKE.

let me just add to your comment by saying this: this thing now has become a science (picking QBs in the draft) with every talking head putting in their 2 cents. we got the gruden QB camp thing, we have the espn sports science thing where they actually show via animation the guy physical make up and what that physical specimen is capable of. the thing is, science can be wrong just like anything else. gruden touted the shit out of weeden. how's he look now?

making these decisions are franchise changers. people lose their jobs and lively-hood over this shit.

saying all this, i'm all in with you on doing what it takes to get one of these guys (still don't know why you like bridgewater over mariota given his performance a couple of days ago..) BUT believe me, who ever pushes that button better be damened right. because if not, their head will be hanging from a bridge over the flats.

  • if we have a disappointing draft. who do you think will get the the blame?

  • banner and lombardi. that's their jobs.
