There are reports already surfacing that the Arizona Cardinals could lookicon1.png to trade Larry Fitzgerald this off-season. Fitzgerald is scheduled to count $18 million against the salary cap next seasonicon1.png and the Cardinals could save as much as $8 million by trading him. With so many holes on their team, the trade would make sense from a financial standpoint for the Cardinals. There are several teams out there that could use Fitzgerald but few with the cap room to bring him on board.

The Cleveland Browns aren’t exactly viewed as potential contenders and are probably one of the last teams viewed as potential players for Fitzgerald if he becomes available. In fact, most people view them as rebuilding yet again after the trade of Trent Richardson. The Brownsicon1.png are rebuilding but can do so on the fly. They already showed they are no pushover this season, especially when Brian Hoyer was under center. They will also have two first-round picks and could use one to tempt the Cardinals into sending them Fitzgerald.

The Browns already have the makings of a pretty good-looking pass attack with Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron setting a solid foundation. The Browns will also look to drafticon1.png a young quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft. Adding Fitzgerald to that mix would be a huge upgrade and would set the Browns up to be a potentially lethal offense.

Cleveland is one of the few teams that will have plenty of money to spend this off-season. There are a few teams who can be considered potential contenders next season but none with the cap room of the Browns.

Fitzgerald, 30, has 32 catches this season for 422 yards and four touchdowns. Compared to last season when he had 71 catches for 798 yards, this season is something of a rebound for him. There is no question that Fitzgerald is one of the best receivers in the game but he has suffered with poor quarterback playicon1.png since last season. It should be noted that one of Fitzgerald’s best games last season came on December 23rd against the Chicago Bears where he hauled in eight passes on 12 targets for 111 yards, just the second time he exceeded 100 yards receiving, with Brian Hoyer under center.

Is it likely the Browns make a play for Fitzgerald? No. Should they? Yes. Adding Fitzgerald to team with Gordon and Cameron could mean the difference between a playofficon1.png spot or being on the outside looking in. It would also tell Cleveland fansicon1.png that the Browns are committed to improving the team and trying to win now. That is exactly the kind of message fans in Cleveland need and this is exactly the kind of move the Browns need to make.

Maybe for the Colts' pick? Or our second round pick? Perhaps sticking with Hoyer at QB, with Fitzgerald as WR1, Gordon as WR2 and Cameron at TE, with a combination of Lewis/Fozzy/Ben Tate at RB, then using our top draft pick on BPA. There are a lot of QBs and a lot of OTs rumoured to be around the top, perhaps we can trade down, get a few picks and move our second up in to the first round? Perhaps we can get a DB and an ILB?

  • that would be sick. Fitzgerald/Gordon/Cameron would instanly be one of the best WR/TE tandom in the league. Add a good QB to the mix and and improved, gelled defensive unit, and we should be a playoff team.

  • Only question is, how much time would we get out of him? He's 30 now, and even if he plays until he's 35/36 at that level, that's still only 6 years out of a first round pick. For a 2nd, I'd be much happier.

Yup, Fitz is30, and scheduled to make a ton of money- not the player Banner is going to want to bring in. Love to have him though- total class. LOL. with all the trade rumors involving Gordon, would you trade him to the Cardinals for Fitzgerald straight up? I wouldn't.

  • Hell no I wouldbt trade for Gordon. But I would like to see the Browns pick him up. When is the last time we had 3 pass catchers that are play makers?

    Slaughter, Newsome, Langhorne, Byner 1984-1988

  • Edwards, Cribbs, Winslow

Yes, but that was a one year flash in the pan. Anything wrong with multiple year excellence?

  • With at least 5-7 more years Banner would be an idiot not to bring him in. We are not rebuilding anymore with that addition, a qb, and an rb. We have all kinds of money and picks to make all of this happen. DO IT.

  • Edwards, Jurevicious, Winslow. Cribbs didn't do shit as a reciever

  • Fitzgerald is an all-star talent. The browns aren't that many pieces away like other years, so if possible yes I say get him.

    I think its highly unlikely.

  • Fitz will want to go to a contender and be a #1.

I'm thinking Indy, depending on Wayne's status next season.

Seattle isn't a bad fit, either.

  • Yup... Seattle depending on Rice's injury tonite may be really interested. But would Cards trade him within division?

As for us.. I've loved Fitz, Jr., but I'd pass. In his 10th season, his best years are behind him. Too bad so many of them were wasted.

  • Best part about it would be Fitzgerald mentoring Gordon.

I don't know what it is about Rice, but I just don't see him as a viable #1.

And I'm (somewhat) a Gamecock fan, in that my buddies are alumni and I hate Clempsun.

Being from Ohio I am obligated to hate Michigan.

Since my daughter was an Aggie, I'm obligated to hate the Longhorns.

For grins I hate Notre Dame and Bama...

    That's about it for me...

    Now that would be cool...

Adam Schecter just reported that Fitz is not going to be traded...

Also said we were still taking calls on Gordon and Little, but did not expect to get an offer we could not refuse.

  • CLE needs to build for the medium term. WIth a competent QB and refined linemen, they can steal the division as soon as next year. CLE needs to draft wisely for once so that they can bolster the team with fresh talent.

  • Fitzgerald has never been the fastest guy and he's gonna be losing a few more steps in the next few years. He will still be good but he won't be mentioned among the best WR's. He's due to make an epic shit ton of money the next three years. I wouldn't give more than a fourth to acquire him.
