Richie Incognito, who has been suspended from the Miami Dolphins indefinitely since the beginning of November for his part in the bullying/hazing of teammate Jonathan Martin, has filed a grievance against the team.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today has the news:

Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo provides the reasoning behind the grievance and adds that the appeal may not be expedited as Incognito requested:

The NFLPA also commented following the filing of the grievance (via Garafolo and Brian McIntyre):

Incognito was suspended from the team after sending obscenity-laden voicemails and text messages to teammate Jonathan Martin, reportedly forcing the second-year player into a mental breakdown. Incognito is filing a "non-football injury grievance,"according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

According to Mortensen, the current collective bargaining agreement states that a player who is suspended for conduct detrimental to the team—as Incognito is—can be held out for four games plus an additional paycheck.

In Incognito's situation, that would mean losing more than $1 million.

Since the suspension, the veteran offensive lineman, in an interview with Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, has said that Martin has used similar vulgar language in his own messages, noting that is the nature of their friendship.

Incognito said he has "had Martin's back," and phone records show over 1,000 text messages between the two over the past year.

While some teammates have proclaimed their support for Incognito, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has said that he won't make a decision on the matter until he hears "all the facts," via NFL.com's Albert Breer.

Clearly, this is a bizarre situation, and Incognito feels that he has been wrongly suspended for an indefinite amount of time.

Even if he does win the grievance, there's a chance that he will simply be given his outright release, as it's hard to imagine him returning to the Dolphins after all of this.

  • He's still a fat titted bitch, whichever way this goes down.

  • reverse racism all the way.

now the white people are out-numbered on most sport shows and they show a kicker doing a little dance for hitting a game-winning field goal and one of the 3 BLACK ex-jocks say: 'typical white guy moves'. all they all laugh their asses off.

    HAR DEE HAR HAR HAR!

can we get that fool fired?

OK, Mik- Rickey does have a legit gripe- they can't suspend him for more than 4 games. I suspect the investigation will wrap long before that- and if he's right, the right thing to do is give him back pay. It would also brand Martin as a Grade A Fruit Loop.

I'm not crying- every game the two of them are out helps the Browns playoff chances.

  • i agree, as usual wise man.

it's amazing how one person is called a racist and a bully while we see what happened with the los angeles clipper player barnes (yesterday) and what he tweeted and most black commentators yawned it away.

somethin to wonder about is all. what's cool for you is not cool for me when it hurts my pride but it's all good if i'm getting paid.

call me what you will. shit on my chin. as long as there is millions of dollars in it for me.

  • I expected this and I think he has a case and will probably get his money until he's officially fired.

yeah he'll prob get fired from miami and picked up the next day from a team that needs a good OL.

  • I don't think he'll play again this season. He's bad press for anyone right now.

Only if there's some playoff team that is desperate for any kind of OL.
