If the playoffs started today, these teams would be in, or in the hunt:

    AFC

    East Patriots 8-3

    North Bengals 7-4

    South Colts 7-4

    West Broncos 9-2

Wildcards: Chiefs 9-2, Titans 5-6 (not sure how, but that is what I read)

    In the hunt: Jets/Dolphins/Steelers/Ravens/Chargers all 5-6. Browns/Bills/Raiders 4-7

    NFC

East Cowboys 6-5 (tiebreak over Eagles)

North Lions 6-5 (tiebreak over Bears

    South Saints 8-2

    West Seahawks 10-1

    Wildcards: Panthers 8-3, 49ers 7-4

In the hunt: Cardinals 7-4, Bears 6-5, Eagles 6-5, Packer 5-5-1

    Race for #1 overall pick:

    Jaguars 2-9

    Falcons 2-9

    Texans 2-9

    Vikings 2-8-1

    Bucs 3-8

    Redskins 3-8

    Browns, Bills, Raiders 4-7

Bizarre that I would include the 4-7 teams as 'in the hunt' which they are because they are just one game back of a potential WC spot....but also list them in the 7-9 slot in the draft order.

Games between contenders this coming week:

    Packers @ Lions

    Steelers @ Ravens

    Raiders @ Cowboys

    Titans @ Colts

    Cardinals @ Eagles

    Broncos @ Chiefs

    Dolphins @ Jets

    Bengals @ Chargers

    Saints @ Seahawks

Also, FYI, no team has clinched anything.....and no team has been mathematically eliminated, though that could begin as early as this week. The 2-9 Falcons and 2-8-1 Vikings could be eliminated with losses and wins by the 49ers/Cardinals.

Imagine that, the Falcons being thisclose to being in the Super Bowl to being the first team eliminated.

Anyone else think this could be another 2010-2011 season where a 7-9 teams makes the playoffs and makes some noise?

The Seahawks were the first team to make the playoffs with a sub .500 record, and even won their WC game that year. It looks like that could possibly happen again this year with all the sub .500 teams left in the AFC playoff race

I think it possible that a team like the Chargers/Ravens/Steelers at 7-9 etc. could go into the Colts or even the Bengals and beat them. But I don't truly believe that a 7-9 team will make it as a WC.

Look at the games this week. You have the 5-6 Steelers at 5-6 Ravens, plus the 5-6 Dolphins at the 5-6 Jets.

Two of those teams will be at .500 this week with 4 games to play. It is highly probable that one of those two remaining teams will end up at least .500.

As for what it looks like right now the following in the AFC seem like locks:

    Pats

    Bengals

    Colts

    Broncos

    Chiefs

That leaves one spot between the Jets/Dolphins/Ravens/Steelers/Chargers/Titans/Browns/Bills/Raiders.

Assuming the Browns don't do it, I would probably prefer that the Chargers make it...or the Titans.
