Week 15 Game Impressions: Bears @ Browns

The Browns Board

  • Yeah...good idea...let's keep losing and get a good draft pick. That sure has worked in the past, hasn't it? The defense on this team sucks...plain and simple. I don't mean that the offense is good, but the defense kills us late in the game every week.

I'll always root for a Browns win, but you have to look at the bigger picture here. I'm telling you, a franchise QB makes the entire team better. Use whatever lame analogy you want, but the QB is the life blood of an entire squad. The Colts are a perfect example of this. They have Manning and are elite for 10 years, and go 2-14 without him the year after. They draft Andrew Luck and magically that team goes 11-5. They didn't obtain several players to make to their defense elite, they fed off Luck winning games for them week after week. I get it, the defense has let some games pass through their fingers and it sucks. But with a better QB, I guarantee this defense is good enough to make the Browns .500 or better. Campbell is okay but he's just another QB on the browns dreary list of stop gaps.

The best way for the Browns to get said QB is the draft. I get it, we've drafted poorly overall and that's largely why we've been bad. However, stats will point that a franchise QB is largely found in the 1st round. We have to keep going to that well even if we haven't gotten water from it previously. By having a top 5 pick we can realistically get that guy. I cringe at the idea of trading our 2nd 1st round pick, but if it meant getting the next Andrew Luck I'd do it a hearbeat. I'm not going to speculate at who or who won't be that guy, but it's what the browns HAVE to do to become a winner, period.

Other than the big plays the Browns D came up with...that was a pretty boring game. And I've got a few words for Haslam's plan to make the stadium a "better NFL experience"...

Winning would make the stadium a better NFL experience.

Agreed. I vented in another more appropriately related thread.

  • And wow there were a lot of Bears fans there yesterday. From my seat's viewpoint, I couldn't tell what happened with the jump ball in the end zone. With the roar of the crowd, for a second I thought Browns made an interception...but of course it was Alshon Jeffrey coming down with the TD catch.

They were all over in my section too. When I got down there, the first thing I thought was, "Man, there are a lot of Bears fans here"

  • Too short. Our secondary is often too short, and lacking in burst, making playing the zone

a tough thing to watch when the other team goes for broke in the passing downfield game.

And, I think the Browns were playing that 3rd string ilb. That's tough duty, when you are playing

wr's and te's like the Pats and Bears have.

It so so cold at the game, you had to take a bite of hot dog, gulp some root beer...or coke....,

and then put the gloves back on, repeat.

The Bears beat all four teams in the Browns' division. No slouch team there. It was a fun game to watch.

I still do not want to see Campbell be the starter ever again, next year.

Agree on all 3 points. It seems Campbell is hot & cold. I could see him staying if the staff thinks he'd be a good mentor, but I'm not sold on him either. From my upper deck seats, it seemed Campbell wasn't seeing guys open like he had been in a few earlier games he played this season.

That TD to Jeffry was horrible. It looked like a coffin corner punt attempt, and it ends up tying the game.

Yep...Especially Cameron. It was sad to see the loss, and Campbell knocked me out of my fantasy playoffs at the same time.

This sucks, we just can't win at home.

I know. Wouldn't it be nice to win at least 6 of these home games? It sucks walking back to the car all the time bitching, seeing visiting fans all happy. At least most of the Bears fans I met were pretty cool and not obnoxious.

Yeah, I had guys in my section rooting for the Bears. They all were cool. The only problem I had with them was they kept saying the felt sorry for me having to root for the Browns

I have a feeling we're going to replace every player not named Joe in the secondary this offseason.

the only reason jeffrey made that catch is because the corner in front of him jumped 2 seconds too soon.

    terrible.

he didn't need to jump, just back up and catch the ball

  • Either alternative or would've been fine. Jeffery shouldn't have come down with that ball.

  • We need some more height in the secondary. These tall receivers are killing us.

  • Unfortunately the best DBs in the draft are only 5'10" - 6' although there might be a couple of FAs that have height, that we could use for red zone situations. Hell, we could probably put Mingo back there with a bit of training.

nope. i say make greg little play both ways next year.

  • Mik....chill.......it was just a joke. I've been on board this train since the mid 70's. We haven't won a playoff game since '94, obviously our plan is not working. I say give someone a chance to build this thing.

But until then I can pull out the VHS tapes and watch the Browns win a playoff game.

That "corner" was Gipson and he simply misjudged the punt Cutler threw up...
