  • The game this weekend in Green Bay could have a temperature as low as -21 F. And the one in Cincy could get down to -9F. These could end up being two of the Coldest games in NFL history. The following is the list of the Top Ten Coldest to date:

    10. 12/22/1990 Lambeau Field Packers vs. Lions -2F

    9. 1/15/1994 Ralph Wilson Stadium Bills vs. Raiders -0-F -32 WindChill

    8. 12/26/1993 Lambeau Field Packers vs. Raiders -0-F

    7. 12/10/1972 Metropolitan Stadium, Bloomington Minn. Vikings vs. Packers -0-F -18 Windchill

    6. 12/3/1972 Metropolitan Stadium, Bloomington Minn. Vikings vs. Bears -2F -26 windchill

    5. 1/20/2008 Lambeau Field Packers vs. Giants -4F, -24 windchill

    4. 1/4/1981 Cleveland Municipal Stadium Browns vs. Raiders -5F

    3. 1/7/1996 Arrowhead Stadium Chiefs vs. Colts -6F

    2. 1/10/1982 Riverfront Stadium Bengals vs. Chargers -9F -59 windchill

    1. 12/31/1967 Lambeau Field Packers vs. Cowboys -15F -48 windchill

If it really got to -21 gametime temp this weekend in Green Bay it would beat the Ice Bowl for all time coldest game.

(I suspect that game time temps were not really recorded in the early years, so games in an earlier era could have been colder than some of these...but who knows.)

Also note: The Vikings will now be playing outdoors after over 30 years being in the Metrodome. First they will play at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the Univ. of Minnesota. (FYI, my son now works just a stone's throw from there). Then they will play in a new "Vikings Stadium"....outdoors.

Some of these Top Ten could be going down with a few years outdoors in Minnesota.

Example: Monday it is anticipated that the high temperature there will be -11F.

Lots of fun for the Purple Gang in the future.

  • I was at the Browns vs. NYG game on Thursday night.

    IT WAS FREAKIN COLD

  • I think there is a point where it doesn't really matter how cold it gets, the stinging numbness, if that makes any sense, feels the same.

    2F....-8F...does it really matter?

  • The over/under for both games is around 46. The number should be dropping as the weather conditions are firmed up for Sunday. Nevertheless, a betting man should certainly be considering the Under. jest sayin

    It might matter to hypothermia.

But these sissy NFL players have jackets and torpedo heaters on the sideline.
