Could it mean other "good news"

The Browns Board
15 10 806
  • The action today by Jimmy Haslam has been characterized by reports to be a "consolidation of power" back into his own hands. Divesting himself of Joe Banner has been analogized to the Sultan casting out the evil Jafar.

The question though it this: Why would a guy, who may any day now be the subject of a federal criminal indictment wherein he could be suspended by the NFL be taking such bold forceful action?

Could it be that he has gotten some kind of word that no indictment will be forthcoming? That he can now proceed full speed ahead on his ownership of the Browns without worries of having to step down?

Or, could it mean the opposite? That in anticipation of that indictment and suspension could he be streamlining the team organization for whomever takes over?

Right now, based on today's news, Scheiner, Farmer, Pettine will each report directly to him. They will no longer have to go through the svengali like Banner to have their word heard by Jimmy.

Is it possible that this simplicity is for Jimmy's sake......or for Daddy Haslam's sake or Sonny Haslam's sake, one or the other of which may take over for Jimmy when he goes down?

I tend to believe the former. That JH is emboldened now by positive news on that front.

Or, could these moves with the Browns be a product of his experiences with the whole rebate mess at Pilot/Flying J? Maybe he saw that his mistakes there were allowing underlings to control things and make decisions on his behalf that were counterproductive to the point of criminal.....i/e he lost control of PFJ by not being in control.....and here, now, he wants control so no more major mistakes can be made while he was not watching.

  • Who is "Jafar"?

  • Wide receiver Jafar Brown.

That's my take. He put too much trust in Bummer and Lobotomy- and look where it got him- in a football sense in the same mess Pilot is in.

Watching those NFL those videos- Lombardi made a bunch of very bad decisions. Not researching Bess, picking up a guy with a torn ACL, I have a hunch firing Chud was his idea- and promising Haslam he could get him his pal McDaniels, or at the very least Gase. Then he doesn't show up for press conferences, or go down to the Senior Bowl to do some scouting.

I think it really got driven home to Haslam (with an exclamation point) when at the Chud firing presser- ownership and the FO got called "The Three Stooges" to their face. Jimmuh had to realize right then and there he had a serious PR problem with the NFL in general, and Browns fans in particular. IMHO he had no choice but to eliminate two of the Stooges. LOL, he wasn't about to fire himself as owner.

I'll give Haslam credit for this much- If you don't produce you're gone- selling gas to trucking companies is a cutthroat business, and the NFL no less so. Jimmy's just applying his business experience to NFL ownership.

that's why i didn't mind the chud firing as many did. i think the lack of improvement given better talent the shurmur made the man realize that he couldn't go into this thing with a loser and dedicate 3-5 years with ineptitude.

the firing of lombardi and banner just reinforced that for me.

With injuries, that isn't true at crucial positions. As in qb, rb, and Richardson traded, and pickups

being poor choices. NFL history has often shown that first year coaches to struggling teams don't

win. Look at Buttichek - he lost his first year with the Browns and the Patriots. Just sayin, but that's

water over the dam, and at worst, we have another young coach who will get it all worked out.

But with Banner and Scumbardi gone, that's a huge improvement in the future of the Browns even

    without the coaching change.

I would actually place the blame more in Hortons' camp.

Defensive talent was definitely better, but talk about total collapses - Wow.

I think Chud just caught the flak from that, plus the continual starting of Weeden (not that there was much choice) - just a bad situation.

Did you never have children Z? Aladdin was the first movie my son ever saw at the movies.

Jafar was the villain.....one of Disney's Classic Villains like Malificent, Cruella De Ville, the Wicked Queen. etc.

No kids, but I have a dog. So I like that Dalmation one and the one where the two dogs eat the spaghetti.

Probably haven't sat down to watch a Disney movie since I was 11.

I should have said "Disney cartoon" movie.

I enjoy Titans, and I just saw Miracle for the first time a few weeks ago. Kurt Russel's hair piece bothered me, but I love everything to do with that hockey team.

The Duck thing looks like a kiddie movie
