This is dated March 11, pre draft...and maybe pre FA period for the most part.
And yes, remember...except for one year, about two years ago, every single other year in like the last 20 there has been a turnover of at least 5 out of the 12 playoff teams from the previous year. The trend will likely continue.
So, lets play this game: Here are the 12 playoff teams from a year ago:
Patriots
Bengals
Colts
Broncos
Chiefs
Chargers
Eagles
Packers
Panthers
Saints
Seahawks
49ers.
Which of these 5 (or more) do you predict will fail to return to the playoffs?
And which 5 (or more) teams will take their place?
-
My five to be out from last year:
Bengals (can anyone really feel confident in the Bengals)
Chargers, I believe they will fall to around .500
Chiefs, ditto for them
Eagles, it is just a prediction that the NFL will figure out Chip Kelly, still my iffiest choice
Packers, they could have a better record than last years 8-7-1, but that is a good division and Bears/Lion prevail
To replace them:
Ravens replace Bengals. Eke out division though both go 9-7
Texans come back to life to take a WC spot from Chiefs/Chargers
Jets come back to claim last WC spot
Bears beat out Packers/Lions for NFCN
Then who beats Eagles? Cowboys, I guess. Don't like them really to be that good, but maybe Romo plays just once up to his talent.

If you are going to dump the Eagles, since they were the only NFCE team to qualify, you would have to put some other NFCE team in their place, which you didn't. That was why I had to break down and say the Cowboys would get in.

That division is bad. I would replace them with the Giants are a better team than the Cowboys take

I would definetly go over on the Jets, I'm a fan so I'm biased but 6.5 is pathethic low for a team that won 8 games last year and still has a likeable coach in the locker room that is coaching for his job. Best DL in the NFL will allow Ryan to really dial the defense in, depth is high, Smith has a year under his belt and even if he doesn't improve Vick is there to fill in and while he might not be Brady he is better than 6.5 wins for a team that again won 8 last year, will have a top 5 defense, top 10 at worst, and added massive upgrades at the skill positions (Eric Decker, 2nd round pass catching TE, Chris Johnson at RB). It's also a weak division outside of NE, the Jets should get 3 wins alone in their 4 games against Miami and Buffalo and they always play NE tough it wouldn't be out of the relm of possibility to split with them like they did last year with a vastly inferior team on paper.
I'm still shaking my head 6.5 wins. Best DL in the NFL with 3 pro bowl talents, best group of safeties Ryan has had to work with since he has been in NY. Solid OL, very good stable of backs. It's very similar to the teams that went to back to back AFC championship games, the Dline is better and the corners are worse, but will be a very good defense and the OLine and Running Game will be solid. Not a ton of playmakers at WR but a young pass catching TE and a solid WR (Decker is better than Braylon Edwards was although he was good with the Jets until he had a major injury) but very good stable of backs. Not just Chris Johnson who will be the no.1 back but a good power back in Ivory who slides down to his natural position as no.2 back, a solid no.3 3rd down / pass blocking back in Bilal Powell who slides to his natural position as a no.3 back who only plays in the type of plays he excels at and just signed Daryl Richardson from the Rams who has experience starting and while no superstar is a solid no.4 back to provide injury insurance in case someone gets banged up. I realize alot of people dont trust Geno Smith but again with a running offense and a great defense the Jets went to 2 championship games with a bum at QB in Sanchez. And even if he struggles they have Vick as insurance.
Not trying to harp too much on it just put my opinion out there in case anyone wants to make an easy money investment and actually bet on it they are definietly one of the better bets out there.

cool 50 percent of people probably will but having people that do is what balances out and helps makes the informed people like me able to make money.

As blatant a thread hi-jack as I have seen. Shame on you sir...
This is how the Vegas people see the NFL going in 2014. I know it will not play out this way. Let's take an honest look at this. Some teams will pan out like this and which will nose dive (ALA Texans) which ones will be the cinderalla team.
They bundle all the teams up so tightly around, it's hard to pick pratfalls and cinderellas, but here goes...
OVERS -- Denver(11), NO(9.5), Philly(8.5), KC(8), AZ(7), NYG(7), CLE(6.5)
UNDERS - Cinci(9), Houston(8.5), Dallas (8), Miami(7.5)
Cinderella:
NO (9.5) - I think they overcome questions at the RB to become part of the NFC's SB conversation again. Largely due to a 2nd year of the D under the good Coach Ryan plus some nice draft pieces in what looks to my to be the weakest division in the NFC.
Praterellas:
Cinci (9) - While I like their draft and they've a solid core, I just think that the loss of both their OC and DC, atop growing QB questions, dooms them for 2014. Not sure that Lewis makes it to season's end thru no fault of his own.
Houston (8.5) - The D should be awesome. The O? Well, the D should be awesome... but even the best D in the world will get tired, if left on the field for 2/3rds of the game. In a lot of games early... lose a lot of games late will be their 2014 battle cry.
-
If I were just choosing one I'd put all my money on Lovie Smith to demolish that spread with the Bucs. They just picked up a QB and two more receivers of 6'5" size to go with the one they already have there at that size, Vincent Jackson. Josh McCown knows how to use receivers like that.
-
Just to simplify...
Browns' record next season... Where do we see it?
I'm saying 6-10. We're going to have a tough time getting everything together in the first half of the season, especially with the challenging start to the schedule. But we'll see some strides as the season matures. And it will be 2015 where the playoff push happens.
