I have a young daughter that has had 3 open heart surgeries herself. It is not a fun experience for anyone in the family.

My wife had a younger sister who succumbed to her defective heart decades ago despite the best efforts of young, Dr. Denton Cooley. A few years ago the same Dr. Cooley performed a successful triple bypass on the wife's father.

How far we've come...

Drs. DeBakey and then Cooley worked on my cousin over several years for congenital heart problems. In Little League he would bat but have a designated runner run to first base for him. After successful surgeries over the years he eventually became a salmon fisherman off the coast of Alaska (think Deadliest Catch kind of work) and is now retired on an island in Washington state. There is real hope for this kid!!
