Around the League Impressions: Preseason Week 1
-
Recording all the games and watching at least the first team action... more when AFCN team or player of interest is involved. So far have viewed all the Bengals opener vs KC, the first half of the Ravens vs SF and most of Bucs vs Jags...
Up First: Cinci @ KC
Bengals Offense
Overall they just did not look crisp.
The ones only played one series as a unit producing one drive that ended in a FG. Dalton looked good and had a couple pretty-ish passes to Green, but did not look sharp. Running game was good, not great.
Backups:
After our old friend Jason Campbell sleep-shat the bed for close to 2 Qtrs, 2nd year QB Matt Scott sparked the team to 2 TDs. Scott also ended the game as their leading rusher. Tour fav AJ McCarron barely played.
Bengals Defense
It may have looked even less crisp than did their Offense. Produced (or were handed) a couple turnovers, but otherwise really did not stop KC's Offense... particularly their run. Did generate some pass pressure.
KC
Much sharper overall on both sides of the ball...
Charles ran well in a limited appearance. His apparent, new back up, Charcandrick West (R-Abilene Christian) looked very good, very quick. They also showcased one of my old sleepers, Cyrus Grey (A&M) who had 10 carries for 55 yards. I have a feeling he'll be dealt in the coming weeks.
Other rookies of note included:
- electric, Special Teamer, De'Anthony Thomas (R-Oregon) who returned a punt for an 80-yd TD.
- 2014 former DB sleeper, Phillip Gaines (R-Rice) had a couple nice pass defenses.
- Tweener, Dee Ford (R-Auburn) looks to have found a home. He seemed to be everywhere early on.
-
saw some limited highlights. QB rookies:
bridgewater looked like shit. won't beat out cassell for starting job.
carr so-so.
bortles pretty good.
garrapolo the same.
geno smith still sucks.

Last nite I watched a strong nominee for most impressive Preseason debut... da Bears.
After a shakey start Cutler was impressive... ditto for Jordan Palmer (but it's eerie how much he looks and throws like his big brother).
Marshall and Jeffery have a mid-season look.
Running game was a tad less impressive than the passing, but not bad.
The play level of the 1st team was high on both sides of the ball. Bears D made the Eagles vaunted starting O look bad.
The Bears' #2's play was also crisp despite the scoreboard results.
Trestman had his team ready.
With Fales likely sticking as a developmental player, I have a feeling that either Palmer or Clausen will be traded.

Where the bears have been mostly D in the recent past, they damn sure have put together a well rounded team with some stars on offense. They will definitely be a team to look out for, and I bet they take the NFCN from the Pack

texans stunk it up bad. looks like they over paid another dud QB. too bad clowney can't play the position.
