Dumb Tiebreaking Process
-
What do you think this is, fucking soccer where points matter?
Browns have fewer losses....that breaks any tie.
The question was asked before the weekend. Go grab a beer, relax and enjoy the winning feeling, and stop getting wound up over meaningless things.

Meaningless things? Like soccer?

(you know...the soccer championships are going on right now....and their system is absolutely a hilarious joke. They have the teams play 2 games, then count which team has the most goals in the two games.
Could you imagine say the baseball playoffs being played where the two teams play two games and the winner of the series is decided by who scores the most runs in the two games? Such a system would be laughed out of creation. Soccer will not become a major sport in this country with a system like that...it will remain a fringe sport)

haha how did soccer get involved here

I'm refusing to acknowledge soccer even exists at the moment, thank god the Browns are winning or I might be turned off sport forever

It's a standard two-legged system. You play home and away, and if magically one team sweeps, then they go through; if there's a win and a tie, the team that won goes through; if it's a split series, you go by goals (not points) scored. Goals are a much bigger deal than touchdowns or anything like that - a lot of games are likely to finish with fewer than 3 goals per team - if NFL games were finishing 7-0 or 14-7, then touchdowns would be a lot more important.

What's even more ridiculous, is that the tie breaking scheme for draft picks is different than for playoff seeding.

Not really.
Playoff ranking has everything to do with what Division and Conference you're in, while the draft has nothing to do with Div or conf. No way you could use the same system for both.

I have a better system: Play best of 3. If a team wins the first 2 games....they proceed. If there is a win and a tie, you go to the third game. If you have to go to a third game....and if after regulation time the winner cannot be determined. (e.g. if two ties and a win, the team that won...wins). If you go to a third game and after regulation time in the third game there is still no determined winner....you keep playing until a team scores a "golden goal". I don't give a damn if they have to play for 5 hours. No bullshit shootouts.

However, I remember a few years ago, Cleveland and Arizona ended with the same exact record. They were the only two teams with that record (6-10 or somesuch). And Arizona had beaten us during the year. So assuming we both were fighting for the same playoff spot, Arizona would win and get that spot by virtue of having a better head-to-head record.
For the draft though, Arizona won again (by getting a better draft position). Because head-to-head record is not considered for draft position. It went from overall record to record vs. common opponents I think.
