  • I know that the RB position has now been devalued at the pro level, but at the college level it is still very much an important position, almost as much as QB. This year, it appears that the Big Ten Conference rules the roost at the Running back spot. There are about 130 FBS level teams, but 4 of the Top Ten Runners in the country are Big Ten backs:

    Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin

    Ameer Abdullah, Nebraska

    Tavon Coleman, Indiana

    David Cobb, Minnesota

The other top ten runners are

    James Conner, Pitt

    Devon Johnson, Marshall

    Duke Johnson, Miami

    Jarvion Franklin, Western Michigan

    Donnel Pumphrey, San Diego St.

    Samaje Perine, Oklahoma

Three more Big Ten Backs are in the top 30 (Elliot OSU, Jackson Northwestern, Langford Mich. St.), giving the Big Ten 7 of the top 30.

In comparison, the ACC has 3, the SEC 3, the Pac-12 4, the Big 12 1, the MAC has 4, and all other conferences have 8.

  • Another interesting stat is: Points responsible for

    #3 Barrett

    #5 Kessler USC

    #6 Hundley UCLA

    Passing TDs?

    #1 Brandon Doughty W. Ky

    #2 Barrett

    #3 Mariota

    #5 Kessler USC

    Passing yard?

    mostly smaller college QBs

Winston is #11, Mariota #12, Barrett is #35

  • You can't leave Bama's T.J. Yeldon off that list of RB's. He'll be coming out early this year.

Alabama RBs have a real spotty record as pros. See Mark Ingram and TR on the down side, Eddie Lacy on the upside.

(I will take Alabama Linebackers though.....they most perform well.)
