Trade up for Danny Shelton

  • Having a flat-out anchor in the middle of the D takes pressure off of everyone else on the defense. Less double teams for other players, easier pass-rush, less time in coverage.

  • The point is that Shelton is the premier, run-stuffing DT/NT in the draft. The only question is how big the drop is to the 2nd best. If you happen to think it's big enough, then a trade up should be considered.

When the list of "elite" players in the 2105 draft is finalized, I think Shelton's name will be on it.

Shelton is good but the best player on washington's team was shaq Thompson.

If linebackers are free to roam in space and make plays - there's usually a damn good sets of bigs up front to thank for that.

I've been watching film of Shelton and it's fun to watch him push a pocket backward. Not only does he pack brute strength but he does a nice job of standing blockers up so they don't have their legs under them. I really like this kid's innerchest. He seems relentless.

The only slight negative I see after he jacks blockers up is a tendency to tackle high...

Here's a link showing a brief footage of him Senior Bowl Week. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Danny+Shelton+Highlights+YouTube&Form=VQFRVP#view=detail&mid=AAAA1ECF74461F1A7A78AAAA1ECF74461F1A7A78

There are very few knocks on Danny's game. About the biggest would be to remained conditioned and as you pointed out, watch how high you tackle someone.

I wasn't thrilled with the kid when I first saw him in August. Now? Yes, please. He's a franchise worthy front 7 pick.

  • I like Shelton too just not 100% sure about trading up for him. It looks like we'd have to trade a lot cause they don't think he'll make it past Chicago who's going to a 3-4 for probably the first time in that franchise's history. Frankly I'd rather bring Wilfork in and have him and Taylor immediately anchor the most dominant interior in all of football. Even then I'd probably still take Shelton if he falls to 12.

  • Wilfork would certainly change things if he came to us... and might help us even should he go elsewhere... as well might Suh.

Whomever they sign with... those teams will have far less interest in spending a high pick on Shelton.

  • For what it's worth, here's 4 different Mock Draft scenarios for round 1 with 2 different guys giving us Shelton.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/mock-drafts

  • True 3-4 stud NT's only come around a a few times a decade. Shelton looks like one. It's the defensive equivalent of moving up for a QB. If you think he'll completely transform your defense, please trade up a little.

  • Nothing much different in the following from what many of us have been saying...

Ultimate 2015 prospect for our ultimate need.

  • Josh Gordon was a teammate of RG3 at Baylor. Trade Gordon and the #19 pick for Shelton.

  • True 3-4 stud NT's only come around a a few times a decade. Shelton looks like one. It's the defensive equivalent of moving up for a QB. If you think he'll completely transform your defense, please trade up a little.

Aren't you the same guy who said Kosar was more talented than Brady? Yeah...I'm gonna ignore your assessment of talent.

You mean the way we acquired Justin Gilbert? If Shelton is gone by #12 there's alternatives without trading up again. Eddie Goldman, Denzel Perryman, Kevin White, Andreas Peat, Devon Smith, Jaelen Strong to name a few. What is this infatuation in Cleveland with trading up? It's never worked and that's why winning organizations never do.

first off get it right. they traded down and chose gilbert. they traded up to get manziel.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! Traded down to #9, then traded back up to #8 for Gilbert. If your gonna try and shit on somebody like that, at least make sure your right.... jus' sayin.....

  • Bring in the biggest bully on the block then beat the shit out of everyone.

  • The only question is: "How close to Shelton is Malcom Brown as a run stuffer?"

If he's reasonably close, then save your trade up ammo and take Brown at 12 if need be.

If he's not close, then call folks and see what the price of certainty is.

  • Good news for our Shelton hopes at #12...

Play The Draft® Market Analysis For Monday, March 9, 2015:

As of today, there are 11 prospects with an FRX* under 10.0 in Play The Draft®. It’s been the same 11 names Mock Drafters have been shuffling around their top-10 for weeks. I think two of those highly-projected prospects are about to tumble out of the national top-10, and then maybe fall out of the top-15 as well…creating hundreds of thousands of dollars in PTD-losses for portfolios in the month of March.

At the same time, there are two prospects names who appear to be making a push as their replacements…which could garner hundreds of thousands of dollars in PTD-gains for portfolios.

    Who are these names?

#1 Most Likely To Fall From ‘The Under FRX 10.0’ Ranks…

Washington DT Danny Shelton (6.8 FRX, $2.9M current PTD-value, 11.4% owned)

This has been a long time coming, in my book, and this is going to be a painful experience for Shelton-holders in Play The Draft®. Pre-NFL Combine, there was a federal Mock Draft law that you had to have Danny Shelton at #7 to the Bears. The week after the NFL Combine…the mandate was still in effect. However, Mock Draft anarchy with Shelton has begun this past week.

Shelton is no longer the automatic #7…in fact, he’s not even showing in the top-10 for many. You’re starting to see a lot of #12 projections, along with some #19s. If Shelton falls from his current 6.8 FRX to somewhere around a 15.0 FRX level…it’s going to be a seven-figure portfolio spanking ahead for the 11.4% of you that own him.

For a moment, it seemed like Florida State DT Eddie Goldman (31.1 FRX, $1.4M current PTD-value, 9.0% owned) was making a move toward the top-20, with a few surprise top-10 Mock Draft projections post-NFL Combine, but that car appears to have run out of gas the past few days.

The DT that could switch spots with Danny Shelton is more likely Texas DT Malcom Brown (17.6 FRX, $1.7M current PTD-value, 11.7% owned), who is more and more popping up among the top-12 in recent Mock Drafts. Brown is rising on draft boards, but he would need an extra push to get into the FRX 10.0 group. If he can pull it off over the next few weeks—there are $500K+ PTD-gains to be realized.

  • Fuck yes. Dream scenario. No trade needed.
