Wow that makes KC a way better team in one day. Vrabel sucks, but to get Cassel with so little, nice move. Hopefully, KC drafts a OT to keep their new QB protected?
Or a shiney new receiver for him to throw to?

They have Dwayne Bowe, a guy a ton of teams would kill to have.

  • Honestly what guarantees are there that Cassell does well outside of NE? He hadn't started a game since High School up until last season when the Pats put him in the starting line up. He had a formidable offensive line, Randy Moss and Wes Welker and a solid stable of RB especially with Faulk as the 3rd down guy. There are no guarantees he succeeds else where, especially Kansas City. I guess we'll find out. Vrabel was a throw away.

There is no guarantee. I would have never made the trade, though it isn't like the Chiefs mortgaged the future to get him...

  • i hope Cassell busts huge!

  • i personally think it will work out well for both teams involved. the patriots get another pick to rebuild that battered, old defense and the chiefs address their number one concern. both teams benefit from this.

  • QB's don't fare well in kc

I agree, Cassel is less risky then drafting Sanchez or Stafford at 3. Can anyone honestly say that Pioli was goina stand by and watch Thigpen run his team?

Scott Pioli wasn't fooled. He knew exactly what was going on with Brady and with Cassel. In fact, he's the one that franchised Cassel ... then traded for him.

Makes you wonder if this was all worked out in advance.

    Zombo

GREAT point Zombo! It's shadey and NE was already going to have multiple first day picks.

The weird thing is HOW MUCH better, if any, is lifetime backup Cassell than the 1 positive 2008 story in KC - Tyler Thigpen? Both are GREAT at the QB draw, but I gotta give bigger challenge to Thigpen since he didn't have Randy Moss' 4.3 verticality spreading defenders out while Welker cleared everything out underneathe.

why would you hope this? what has he done to you or any other browns fan? of course i hope he does poorly against the browns this year but i have nothing against cassel, nor should anyone else. i do however hope that brady busts and does not live up to his potential. however he probably won't

  • I hope he doesn't work out in KC because pioli orchestrated this move in advance and helped both NE and KC and that is collusion....and cheating...so nothing against cassel but everything against NE & KC for cheating , right in front of us! Once a cheat always a cheat!

I think the price for a franchise player is two number one picks

It was a sign and trade, Rich, not a Restricted FA deal. The only compensation is that the Chiefs get Vrabel and Cassel for one second rounder.

Understand, but indeed the Pats could have demanded two no 1's so they played a game with the 14 million of money........now KC has to spend 14 million on Cassel..........Belichick decided to get what he can get........and not pay the 14 million. bottom line NE did another good deal especially if Brady is healthy
