When you know the ramifications of getting popped for drinking and driving, get someone to pick you up. Barrett is the starting QB at OSU. I am sure a coaching staff member is just on drunk pickup duty on weekends they have off.

  • More college type info... but hey.

At least he wasn't twice or three times the legal limit. .08 can feel like you're perfectly capable of driving.

I won't hate on him for having a couple beers at 20, near 21 years old... lord knows I did plenty of that myself.

Of course you won't. He goes to Ohio State and I'm not just directing that at you Tia. This is just an opportune place to interject and I'm sure it won't be popular.

So NOW it's convenient to break out the "this just in college age kids in their early 20s like to party." If a 21 year old kid from A&M gets drafted to a team where the Head Coach announces he doesn't ever want to start a rookie QB; and then he parties off the field in between practice sessions (where he only QBs the opponent's offense) - some people can't wait to post he's the trouble they promised. A Buckeye is going to get a different standard from some Buckeye fans (not all) like Joey Bosa for example.Getting suspended and playing down to inferior opponents are red flags especially when we've witnessed what the inspired/motivated version can bring.

Even this year when Manziel went to a treatment program and did an about face with learning the offense, working hard and studying before showing big improvement on the field - is he running our offense in practice every week or the scout team offense? What's stunting more of the learning curve partying like it's his senior year in college or caddying for a 36 year old QB? He's now informed he's a 2 year red shirt, which makes it who's fault he's here? He didn't draft himself. This 22 year old QB looked like he was making the same exact strides Brett Favre was. The difference is everybody on the Staff and Front Office in Green Bay committed themselves to seeing what they traded for investment wise rather than start their 36 year old Ty Detmer or 35 year old Doug Pederson. They ALSO knew if they returned Favre into the intern type of status he was in Atlanta - his spare time wouldn't have been centered around learning the playbook only to play scout team QB in practice.

I've never had a problem with people that worried if his skills translated or not. Where I have a problem is when those in power from the GROUP that drafted aren't ever going to give him a chance - they should have made this known before we flushed a 2nd first round pick down the toilet in a draft would couldn't afford to miss on either pick. I still like McCown but we're just a 2-5 team with prettier passing stats. The ONLY time we've let the 22 year old version of Manziel practice all week with the upcoming game plan - we won by double digits. I know critics would rather harp on the Jets game when he ran NY's offense all week in practice; but I saw evidence of the game slowing down for him to where he was playing faster (assuring me he learned quite bit this year). I don't think he fumbles any more frequently per snap than McCown has over his career.

So where are we today as we set up for 2016? Okay, some critics want their told you so to stand. Yay! Reality is we will be counting on a 37 year old QB who hasn't survived 2 different starts in the 6 games we looked to him. Beautiful! What else? If we don't draft 1st overall, we won't have the pick of the litter at QB on our doorstep. Wonderful! Why not see what we have in Manziel? Oh yeah, he drank like a 21 year old last year just like Favre did at 22 years of age in Atlanta. Do we want to be like Atlanta was or do we want to learn what the difference between Atlanta and Green Bay became for the QB? We scored 6 points last week so it's not like we're benching Joe Montana here in the midst of a playoff run. What history tells me here is there CAN be a place for this guy if everyone involved is willing to commit to it. Why not make it the place that drafted him in round 1? The time to do this isn't when half the team has already quit and set their sights on greener grass elsewhere next year. The time to do it is when this team needs a spark. Cleveland and Miami were the 2 teams that sacked TN's QB the most this year where one team had a new QB and the other had a new HC. One thing is for sure, people are going to be unforgivable here if there is a Green Bay type of setting and success for Manziel in life after his first team.

  • I know Michigan and sec fans probably hope the book is thrown at him but it isn't going to happen.

Not really. It was his first offense.

Of course, I saw rumors he was in a brand new Explorer with dealer plates. Now if that's real...

I'm not going to read your entire post, Flugs. But if you honestly believe this is the stance I'd take simply because he's a Buckeye... Well, then suck one.

Barely over the limit. First offense. By all accounts an upstanding young man that didn't feel like her was impaired enough to not drive.

Compared to.....Say, Johnnys history in college?

You're right, it was a bad idea to interject on my post. Worse idea to claim it wasn't 'directed at just me'.

such a bad call out of him getting in a car even after a few beers. In his position? C'mon man, you just got named the starter. You've got the 1st round of the draft looking right at you. Why can't these kids be smart?

I got your suck one right here! That nonsense above comes from the same guy who was in a thread full of people discussing Joey Bosa playing down to inferior competition and when I chimed in to add he's also been suspended so there's red flags - guess who decided to ask me "what red flags?" I know how you can be with your Buckeye double standards especially when you want to tell everyone it's okay to drink and drive if you play for Ohio State. Barrett got arrested because he made a bad decision.

BTW, it wasn't directed at just you - you're just the only one being a sissy about it. I'm not surprised. I'm not as nice as Calfox when you want bring on your kiddy games. You were being a hypocrite about what 20-21 year old QB can drink and get arrested vrs which one cannot. That simple - sweet dreams...

Yeah, a lot of kids in college drink, most of us did to whatever degree.

But as a starting qb now for the Buckeyes, it is still very bad judgement on his

part; it doesn't freakin change "bad judgement" into "good judgement" just because

it's his first time. It was bad judgement for JM HIS first time.

In what way was Joey playing down to inferior competition? Per CFF he's the top graded DE against the run AND pass. While consistently drawing the attention of the opposing Oline/TE's and backs. He's dominated his inferior competition, what more do you want?

Also, you have NO comparative reference on this board for anything that I've said about any other 20-21 year old QB's. Maybe aside from Manziel who clearly has/had a history of substance abuse and the persona to accompany it.

I won't hold it against any young, star college player to get into a little trouble. ALL kids eventually do. Again, I drank waaaaay more than JT when I was his age. I'd be shocked and a little worried when someone 'doesn't get into a small amount of trouble. One more time, it doesn't absolve JT of his wrong doings. However I'm willing to say, take the punishment, admit the fault and move on. Compared to domestic violence, rape, driving WAAAAYY over the legal limit, being combative with police ( he fully cooperated, didn't even refuse the test) and the multitude of things college players have been accused or caught doing.... this is beyond minor.

All that needs to be said is for JT to not snowball bad decisions throughout his life. Which, he has no history of showing he's done.

Also, you quoted 'bad judgement into good judgement' as if its something I've said at any time. Which, I have not.

I'd love for you to find where I've said anything remotely close.

Barrett made his mistake, the first one of its kind from what most anyone can tell. He has zero history or rumors of him with substance abuse or ego issues.. Unlike the folk hero that JFF has been.

So yeah, I was hard on Johnny. Rightfully so, he carried his bullshit from highschool, throughout college, into the pro's then straight into rehab.

Get the fuck back to me when JT has done ANYTHING remotely similar. Until then you're just looking to make an argument against

I don't have to pretend, there are stats to quantify my argument about Joey. YOU are the one that can't back up your point, homie.

There's a difference between partying then having a persona and lifestyle that's followed you around since high school which in turn effects pretty much your entire

approach to the game including the professional attitude one is supposed to conduct themselves with when entering the NFL.

Johnny? Not so much any of that. I honestly don't understand how you can argue in favor of the opposite?

I'll one up you, JT set the B1G record for total offense, tOSU record for TD passes and offense and helped carry his team to national championship prominence before Cardale had to take over. Did it all without the media attention that Johnny had. Also as a RS frosh.
