cutler to the bears!

  • Does this mean no more Cutler for Quinn posts?

  • If they took Orton I wonder if that means they would have taken DA if the Browns gave up the draft picks.

It's the Draft picks that kept us out the running for Cutler.

I myself would like to see what Mangini can do with what we have, and the possibility of dishing either DA or BQ.

  • this was a best case scenario for the Browns. It takes Cutler off the market for a team that wasn't really in the running for EITHER DA or BQ....and therefore leaves teams like the Jets looking for a QB...and if they want a veteran QB they have to come to us now.

I love it...and it offsets the poor trade value that Cassel had previously set...so the value of our QB's has just increased without losing out on a trade partner.

    LOVE IT!!!

  • Now maybe we can start a rumor that the Broncos want to give us Orton and a #1 for Quinn. Hell, everybody wants to keep thinking Mangini isn't crazy abbout him.

But, Orton would most likely beat out DA.

  • Broncos Send:

Cutler, 5th round pick in 2009

    Bears Send:

Orton, 1st round pick in 2009, 3rd round pick in 2009, 1st round pick in 2010

    ---------

The Broncos totally swindled the Bears in this deal.

  • I hope Jay Cutler has fun throwing to Rashied Davis, Earl Bennett, and Brandon Rideau.

Earl Bennett was his go to at Vandy...fyi

  • The Bears also signed Orlando Pace today. If he stays healthy, they'll have a pretty good o-line.

It's interesting that Orton's only signed through '09. Could be a one year rental while a rookie QB develops.

Then again, Orton could have some success in that "cockpit" - Denver's got a great o-line, they're retaining Shanahan's ZBS/running game, and they're bringing in the very successful NE passing attack. If Brandon Marshall's suspension isn't long & Tony Scheffler is retained, they'll also have a bevy of offensive weapons.

Should be interesting what 3-4 personnel they pick up in the draft. Tyson Jackson, Rey Maualuga, and Everette Brown would make sense in Round 1.

  • Makes for a very interesting Draft...sweepstakes for sanchez now...Denver trades #12 and #18 to Cleveland for #5 pick....weeeeeeeeeeee

Rey rey rey rey πŸ˜› and beanie !!!!!!!

Might spur San Fran or Jax to move up to make sure they get a QB. Also Giants and Philly want to package picks to move up for Crabtree.

We could very well be sitting in the cat-bird seat.

  • The bears are foolish for giving that much up for cutler thats far worse a deal then ditka giving it all up for ricky williams....Muhahahahaha!

there will never be anyone who trades 2 mid first round picks for the 5th overall. it will never happen. i also still stand by the fact that i wouldn't take beanie for anything before the 3rd round. he won't be that good of an nfl running back

  • there is no way in hell cutler is worth 2 1st round picks and a qb. that is absolutely absurd. not only has cutler never been to the playoffs, but he has a below .500 record. this is ridiculous.

Well, this suggests that those reports are accurate:

Sources: Browns, β€˜Skins Were In The Hunt

The Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns were both major players in the race to acquire former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, sources have informed the National Football Post.

While the Bears won the Cutler sweepstakes, we have heard that the Browns and Redskins were in the hunt until the end, ultimately losing out when Chicago offered two first-round picks, in addition to quarterback Kyle Orton.

More on this story as it develops.

  • I think the Bears gave up a TON to get Cutler. Yes they need a franchise QB and Cutler may be the guy but two first round picks a 3rd and Orton? Cutler hasn't exactly won anything or showed that he's a winner. I'm not saying that he isn't and that he won't help the Bears but those 2 firsts and a 3rd sure as hell would have helped as well. However with that being said I'd definitely want a lot for Bi.g Ben but then again he has two super bowls under his belt and has a proven track record of winning football games. I think the Broncos made out like bandits on this trade. They can draft two solid prospects this year in the first round and Orton at the very least will be decent. I guess in the end it all works out....3 first day picks and a decent QB for Cutler? hmmmmm no shanks.

EDIT: Can we turn off the Big Gay Ben thing? I'm sure everyone is aware that when discussing Ben Wallace it does the same?

2nd EDIT: Upon further review it appears I'm not alone. Crazy, crazy trade for the Bears.

  • The reaction is pretty strange....we essentially used two first rounders and a 2nd rounder to get Quinn. Cutler's a proven star and suddenly 2 firsts and a third is "way too much for anyone." Unless you think Kyle Orton is a real difference maker.

Only used ONE 1st and a 2nd, essentially or otherwise. Used the 2008 1st to get an extra 1st in 2007, at the cost of a 2nd round pick in 2007.
