Cleveland Browns dump 6 scouts early as NFL Draft approaches

The Cleveland Browns have parted with six scouts less than three weeks before the 2016 NFL Draft, according to reports Friday.

The scouts' contracts were set to expire after the April 28-30 draft, a team spokesman confirmed to the Akron Beacon Journal. The Browns decided to let the scouts go rather than waiting until after the draft.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are "streamlining" their personnel department by parting with the six scouts.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has continued the front office reorganization following a 3-13 season in 2015.

The names of the scouts were not immediately disclosed.

  • 5 were college scouts. All but Holland hired by Farmer. Harrison Ritcher,Mike Hagen, Matt Holland, Paul DePaul & James Kirkland. I believe Kirkland was our Western Division scout that may have had his hands in a lot of the picks last season. Expre, Pullard, Telfer, Mayle, X.Cooper, Orchard & Shelton..

  • "Streamlining". Interesting choice of term.

Is the idea to run the organization with minimal scouting department? If so that's more homework for the guys already in house while at the same time putting more responsibility on the shoulders of the front office to not only find but eye tape on players not already weeded out from a more 'analytical' perspective.

Unless that is the long term plan...

I just hope the analytics says those scouts were suggesting bums.

If analytics is the new mantra- I just hope Hue isn't talking out his ass that it's only part of the equation.

Ahem............ there is Arab wisdom that advises you to marry a fat, ugly woman. That way if she leaves you or dies, you don't really give a shit.

When you are 3 - 13, and you think your lard ass LT is going to the HOF, what the fuck difference does it make if you even have scouts? I guarantee you, and jack-off on this board could scout, draft, coach, and manage a 3 - 13 football team.

Sushi and DePodcaster get it, they really do. They already realize that because they don't know dick about football that they too will deliver a 3 - 13 team. HOWEVER............ ANALYTICS dictate that if you have no players, scouts or coaches, the payroll will be really small, and Hamslam will be happy.

Exactly....fat ass lazy overpaid so called "scouts".....good riddance!

  • It's not like these scouts did superwell or something either in drafting or FA last year or the year before. The whole lot should have been fired along with the coaches at the end of the season.

What took them so long to figure out the obvious?

  • Whoever the scout was to give the go ahead to draft Manziel in the first round needs strung up.

I think pure statistics sufficed here...

  • Farmer's boys. Getting rid of them before they stack the draft board.

Thanks for your input, you won't be here next year ... So just move along.

Can we assume you have followed this in your personal life?

On the other hand, there is that song that says if you want to be happy the rest of your life to make an ugly woman your wife.

A bit contradictive, fair to say?

    The

There are are payroll minimums that must be paid....so that is really not that big of a factor....unlike say baseball.
