Q: When is the BPA not the BPA? A: When the definition changes..

I am coming to the conclusion that BPA no longer stands for Best Player Available... not in "Believeland" anyway.

It now means: Best Prospect Available. And analytics do the digging for and influenece the arranging of the "prospects".

This change is going to take some getting used to...

... as will even less ability to predict picks (as if it wasn't low enough already).

I take solace in this. The only other organization that consistently throws the kinds of draft curveballs our FO threw this year is New England.

The word I heard several time listening to the draft this weekend is that the Browns were looking for "Overcomers".

Guys that have overcome questionable upbringings....like Ogbah. Bad medical situations...like Shon Coleman. Bad injuries like Scooby Wright and some others. Bad faith in them by college coaches.....like Nassib.

Perhaps this class should be labeled The Overcomers.....as that is apparently the kind of guy this FO wants.

Does not sound like an "analytics" approach much, does it?

We also took 2 guys that were walkons and had to work their asses off to get onto the field, and hell, just stay in school without monetary help.

I think the analytics had a lot to do with this draft. They took guys that led college football in numerous statical categories over the last 2 years.

So the Princeton kid had to overcome all that competition from over-privileged Ivy League sons of the ultra-rich? Kind of like black kids going through Harvard? 😉😁

    I agree.

But how does that also comport with the apparent philosophy of taking high character guys. The guys that overcame adversity/injuries. Is it just a coincidence?

I don't know if every single player taken had a Martin Luther King moment. But a lot of them did. Our new team fight song?:

Lunch pails are no longer permitted in Berea after Pettine got canned.

Scott Solomon was a lunch pail motherfucker. His ass is gone finally.

^^^^^^ This is why I read Gipper. I believe in high character players. It's really nice to see what they do for the community.

Speaking of high character prospects there are a lot of team captains that fit the mold.

I think a lot of the guys we just took in this draft, and whom we got in free agency were lunch pail kind of guys.

No, they produced on the field. They aren't just "feel good" stories or "hard workers," although those terms may apply... they appear to be actual football players. Big difference.

High school Mike prioritized the former over the latter.

The only bloodbath going on is the purge of under performing Farmer players.
