Boy were they foolish...

Yeah, Wentz was solid in his debut. Almost as good as this guy - 19/26 for 320 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs. Whatever happened to him?
A career lasts more than one game. And even if he turns out to be great, who cares? We've missed on plenty of other players, what's one more to the list? He's not a brown.

The first game Jamarcus Russell started in 2008 he went 17 of 26 (65%) with 2 TD's and no INT's. His rating that game was 111. Jamarcus Russell was a big, strong QB as well.
Carson Wentz rating was 101 exactly against most likely the worst defense in the NFL. You guys are honestly ridiculous sometimes-let's see how the guy plays more than once against better defenses before saying "we missed that boat". In other words, calm the fuck down and let's see what we got.

Well whatever it was, it is the truth big boy.
Haven't we been here before? Not drafting Rodgers, Ben, Carr, McNabb?
They keep making the same mistakes. Previous drafts they took a 28 year old QB in the first round, a party boy, over-hyped, midget drunktard in the first round,
They pass on Julio Jones for what? To miss on more picks?
Ahhh....its another assclown who wants to go over the ghosts of draftpicks missed.
Ahhh....its another assclown who wants to go over the ghosts of draftpicks missed.
This assclown understands that if you don't correct the mistakes you've made in the past, you're condemned to repeat the past..
And it is entirely too early to say whether or not Wentz will be great. Only time will tell...

???. You do not have to like Wentz. However, his first start compared to What Russell did was day and night difference. This is from Wikipedia:
"Russell made his first professional appearance on December 2, 2007 against the Denver Broncos. Coming into the game in the second quarter in relief of starter Josh McCown, Russell played two series, and completed 4 of 7 pass attempts for 56 yards.[16]
On December 23, 2007 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Russell threw his first career touchdown pass, a 2-yard pass toZach Miller. He finished the game with seven completions on 23 pass attempts for 83 yards, with one touchdown pass, threeinterceptions and a lost fumble.[17]
Russell made his first career start in the final game of the season against the San Diego Chargers. Russell was intercepted twice and lost a fumble, which led to 17 points off turnovers for the Chargers. After throwing his second interception, Russell did not initially get up off the field due to an injury, and he was taken to the locker room on a cart later in the game, after which he was replaced by Andrew Walter"

That start was only by default because it was week 17 and the world was crumbling down on the raiders. That was the year Lane Kiffen somehow managed to wrangle the raiders together and yes, he did technically start the last week of the season. That's a extremely stark contrast to what Wentz did.
The funny thing is though, even if you want to use that game he went 23-31 and threw for a TD with a rating of 91.1 against a chargers team that went to the AFC championship that year.

Wentz will be a solid QB..
Based on our dumpster fire situation, we could have used a guy like him!
Whose to say he wouldn't be all that on our offense? We have playmakers we just need more o-line help.
RGIII missing wide open targets didn't help us one bit..
But it doesn't even matter now... we are now in a search for a QB that could have concluded months ago.
Lets just hope McCown and Kessler don't suffer the same fate as IRGIII...

shame on our front office for letting our OLine get in such a shit situation....
they couldn't sign ANYBODY good?

Here is the thing....they ARE putting this team in the hands of mostly young players. So for the OL, they decided to just go with Drango and Coleman on the OL. Same with DL, and mostly OLB etc.

Mack voided his contract and sought another deal. He didn't want to play in Cleveland and no logical amount of money would have kept him here. That's completely different from letting him walk.
-
Here you go. Of the 53 man roster, 28 of these players are in their first or second year in the league. That is 52.8% of the entire roster.
That is the epitome of relying on youth.

so we can't sign any great young offensive lineman and pay them a decent contract? we have to pay the bare minimum? this whole plan is to make sure jimmy spends as little fucking money as possible. what a great, genius plan.

Well, when they lost Mack and Schwartz, they did sign Alvin Bailey and gave him money. This is only his 4th year in the league.
So, essentially to answer your question: yes, they can and they did. (but that player is not as good as the one they let get away)

They are trying to build through the draft. Paying top dollar for young talent is what you do when you are filling a few positions before a run at the playoffs. Not when you are accepting that the team is a dumpster fire that will be a multiple year fix. You would in effect waste the best years on the players contract to pull out 5 wins.
-
OLB is different.. they didn't have any vet "talent" at the position. Orchard is a backup with ogbah, schobert on hand.. Kruger and Mingo's suckage is well documented.

With the amount of $$$ they have in cap space they could have resigned him! Don't give me that bs! Money talks

Unfortunately- true.

How you going to do that? If there's a great offensive lineman- his team is going to try and keep him. See below.

Mack was offered a contract by the Browns that would have made him the highest paid center in the NFL. Effectively, Atlanta offered him 10 cents more, and he bolted. Mack is 30 years old- he'll be on the downside by the time the Browns are any good.

fair enough, but in two years from now if jimmy is still 40 million or more under the salary cap, i'll say I called it.
If we develop "young" players through the draft will jimmy resign them with a fat contract or let them walk?
Didn't we develop TJ ward, or Sheard, or Schwartz? I'm certainly glad we could so they could join another team.

Sashi Brown is coming in from the Jags who used this same strategy and they most certainly made sure to retain young guys that they drafted and developed (Ex: Allen Hurns got a 4 year 40M extension).

hoorta, i wasn't talking about Mack. My point was that we need to bring in more talent. I get that it has to be young talent.... But is this whole analytics thing supposed to make the talent as "cheap" as possible, but when we have a stud QB or WR and it comes to resigning them, do you think jimmy will pay them a fat contract, or let them walk and try to find a 4th round pick or walk-on to replace them? Why did we let TJ Ward go? We didn't even ask him if he wanted to resign..... If we let great players that we develop keep going to other teams, how will we ever be great?
