2005 and beyond

The Browns Board

  • Even tho I have been a Browns fan since the 80s I actually did not move to USA until 2005 ....... any chance someone could do a best team from 2005 to present day ...

QB, RB, 3 X WR, TE, AND O LINE

    DEFENCE

    Either 3-4 OR 4-3 I don't care

Who would be at QB .... Anderson ?

Been asked to do this by someone in UK .... so need ideas.

  • Wow... only 11 years here and hardly a trace of an accent left...

This request has high can o' worms potential, but wtf...

    QB:

Only two starters have led us in passing for more than one year: Anderson and McCoy. One had tools and an angel on his shoulder; the other knew how to play the position... I'll go with the latter: Colt McCoy

    RB:

End of career, but only one RB with back-to-back, 1000+ yd seasons... Jamal Lewis

    WR:

As badly as it hurts, it's undeniably Josh Gordon at WR1.

WR2? I'd say Joe Jurevicius. Guy just had a knack for getting open.

    TE:

Another painful one... as if some aren't... Kellen Winslow, Jr.

Honorable mention to Ben Watson who has had the best career of any TE we've rostered.

    OL:

LT: Joe T... he's been there every year except 2005.

LG: Joe Andruzzi... Tail end of a great career Bito hopes he can surpass.

😄 Alex Mack... is a clear choice, but surprisingly not a runaway choice... Jeff Faine and Hank Fraley closed out solid careers as our Center.

RG: John Greco... Cosey Coleman warrants consideration, but John who moved to RG after a couple season starting at LG gets my nod.

RT: Mitchell Schwartz... We rented a lot of used RTs until Mitch. Many of the rentals were as good at his start, but none were really close by his end.

Maybe the D later... that was actually kind of fun...

    Now comes the pain...

I agree with your analysis, with the exception of LG.

My pick goes to Eric Steinbach.

Good point CD. Yeah, I'd have to say most of Tour's analysis except for Joe Andruzzi over Steinbach was spot on. Then again, if he's an old fart like me - it's possible he just temporarily forgot about Steinbach...

At first I was excited about us signing Andruzzi until I saw how worn and torn apart he was. Steinbach was a very calming influence to Joe Thomas during his rookie year in 2007 that we went 10-6 in. The alleged dead legs of Jamal Lewis rushed for about 1300 yards and 9 TDs that year while DA threw 29 TD passes behind some good pass pro. Steinbach was also a calming influence to Mack when he was a rookie. Then we had Peyton Hillis show up and turn in the type of season that made him a Madden cover boy. The day we lost Steinbach to career ending back surgery our ability to run inside of tackle with any degree of consistency died until the addition of Bitonio (which also put Greco at his best niche here).

I really liked how Tour saw the Center position...

lol... I remember Eric. As a Brown? Sure, I can go for him, but on a career basis, I gave Joe A. the nod. It's the difference between the best player to play for us and the best to play as one of us.

  • If we're just building the team based on the best single seasons, I'd throw in Braylon at WR 2.

That season with him and DA was pretty great.

Then you need to give Cribbs an honorable mention somewhere

  • You only picked 10 on offense ....

These basically look pretty good, though if we are looking at guys for one year....Braylon...for one year had a great season....more than any other guy but maybe Gordon's one year.
