Pro day biggest risers climbing draft boards....

The Browns Board

  • Happens every year...

Of the two, I'd probably take neither at 33... if that's a choice. Obi's closer, but still too high for him.

  • Tour - with Shaheen, do you think he compares at least a bit to Gronkowski?

A bit? Sure... but my limited memory of college Gronk is that he was more of a bruising runner after the catch... and that was against better competition. My impression is Shaheen is much more raw and that makes his extrapolation to the pros that much harder. And I say that as one who did not see Gronk becoming what he has become.

That, given his size and tools, Adam is not a dominant blocker at the Ashland level bothers me. Blocking requires a lot of "want to" and if you don't want to block, then you are not going to want to run people over either. I'd really have to test him for "nasty". With Gronk at Arizona there was no doubt... he was nasty... he loved contact then and still does.

Measurement-wise Adam compares favorably. His Combine numbers are quite close... slightly better in some drills including 3-cone and shuttles, slightly worse in others like the 40.

Adam's clear edge is his physical health. Gronk was hurt a good bit in college and obviously that has carried thru to the Pros.

  • Am new on this hometown visit day. But if Mentor is considered a hometown visit? Why not Ashland? are they only allotted one? mileage? if it cost you nothing bring Adam in? EDIT--I do see on walters, we did get a charged private workout with Adam

  • Good question, gum...

Players who attend college or reside in a club’s “metropolitan area” can be given a physical examination without counting against the 30-player limit, unless the club provides transportation for the visit. Also, a player who attends college or whose hometown is in a club’s “metropolitan area” may be timed and tested at the club’s facility, as long as the club does not provide transportation.

“Metropolitan area” is defined as contiguous suburbs. There isn’t a 25-mile, 50-mile, or any other type of mileage radius rule. The league office uses the 2011 Rand-McNally Road Atlas to determine the metropolitan area of a city.

May have been updated since 2011... the rule and/or the atlas...

That Roger loves him some murky rules...

  • With Obi's combine, he might go before 33.

  • RB D'onta Foreman nearly 240lbs ran in the low 4.4s

Can't see him getting out the second round after that

I would say this: Since the NFL uses the 75 mile rule to establish a team's "blackout radius" or essentially, its core market, then that rule should be applied here.

Ashland OH is 54 miles from Berea OH. Even though it would not be considered a part of the Cleveland "Metropolitan market", it is only about an hour drive away.

Mentor is 40 miles from Berea....so there is only a 14 mile difference.

If I were the Browns and wanted Shaheen to visit under the Metropolitan area exception....I would push for it on that basis.

(Because he is from Galena OH, you cannot use his hometown. That is about 108 miles from Berea.)

Crazy, coming out of high-school he was only pursued (by the bigger schools) for his "more talented" brother.

Exactly the same for Pro Bowler Michael Bennett, brother of the "more talented" high schooler Martellus Bennett. A&M took Michael to lure Martellus. Michael was a late bloomer even in college. In fact he was not even drafted by the NFL. But now they both have Superbowl rings.

  • Ag, the "knock" on Foreman is he does not run with the power you'd think his size would dictate... that a "power back" is expected to bring.

I haven't seen enough of him to judge this... have you? Or anyone else for that matter...

  • I suppose, but for his size he runs quicker than you would think, so I always noticed that over his lack of power. Plus the kid is a true junior so he is young and still has potential to add some more of that power.

Yes, he's a sip homo with the ball in his hands. Anyone halfway decent who gets a lot of touches in the Big 12 can put up stats.

6.3 yds per carry 2016 and 7.2yds/carry 2015. I think he is a player who has speed when he breaks into the secondary and he does run through arm tackles well. I'd take him @52 if he is there unless there is also a defensive stud there that can make our D click.

EDIT: But this morning Will Brinson from CBS has us taking Fornette @#12 so...................................................

Again, guys making mocks based on their own personal opinion of what they think of the player....and not based on what they think the teams will do.

  • Well back to Pro Days-Garrett didn't have to participate but ran a 4.61 unofficial (whatever that means) 40 this morning. Beats his 4.64 combine 40. A pro scout clocked his two times @ 4.59 and 4.61.

Pro Day times are generally faster than Combine.

At the Combine timers react to the start and a trap stops the clock at the finish.

At Pro Days scouts react to the start and tend to anticipate the finish.

A dude with his size ought to run thru more than arm tackles...

Arm tackles is what he creates with his ability to cut.
