Marcus Allen is a safety out of Penn State. I actually first saw him when I was watching tape on Barkley.
I brought him up because a lot of people have been saying, "why take a RB high when you can find good RBs later in the draft?"
It is literally the same with EVERY position in the game. It's really about the player and the work you think they will be able to put in to become great at the next level.
Some players like Tom Brady drafted in the 6th round love the game and put in the work. Where players like Manziel would rather party and don't take it as serious are out in a few years. Then there is the talent level to factor in as well. ALL these guys are talented, ALL OF THEM. It's about the work, the passion and the drive to be great to makes the difference.

Holton Hill is a 5th rounder right now? He's very, very good.

I think he slipped a little in the draft I was doing. He may be a day 2 guy. 3rdish?

FanSpeak using Matt Miller's draft board - no trades:
1.1: Sam Darnold, QB USC (or Rosen, you pick)
1.4: Minkah Fitzpatrick, FS Alabama
2.1: Sony Michel, RB Georgia
2.3: Orlando Brown, OT Oklahoma
2.31: Jaire Alexander, CB Louisville
3.1: Will Hernandez, OG UTEP
4.1: Trenton Thompson, DT Georgia
4.23: Deonte Burnett, WR USCThat'll do. Assuming you sign a CB in FA (Trumane Johnson?), WR (Allen Robinson?), a QB (Alex Smith?) to hold things down for the QB1 to learn, and some LB depth, I think this would make the team instantly competitive.

Jesus H. Christ Po.....do you have neither a sense of humor nor a sense of irony? Yea, we all fuycking know that the Marcus Allen referred to is not the Marcus Allen, the USC RB Heisman Trophy winner, SB MVP.....who had coitus with OJ Simpson's wife.
We all know that...do you really think we were confused with some potential mid round DB from Bumfuyck State?

Threw together a FanSpeak Ultimate GM using the Browns ... curiously the top FA QBs to make it through the initial simulation were Case Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Twatwater. Smith, Cousins, etc. got retained. Not sure how realistic that is, but it was what I was dealt ... so here's what I did. And admittedly, I'm not too familiar with your LB situation and I'm pretty accustomed to the 3-4 personnel and I don't know how your LBs fit into the newish scheme, so I didn't target any LBs in FA for fear that I was getting the "wrong" guy ... I didn't bother with any depth types ... although having scoured the Browns roster I'm not sure I see where you guys lack a ton of depth that couldn't be solved with adding 1 top-flight FA and addressing the position with an early draft pick (See WR, CB). Anyway, you guys are loaded with talent and players that as a Redskins fan, I wanted over the last couple drafts. So here's what I got ...
CB Trumane Johnson - 5 years, $80 million, $40 million guaranteed
WR Jarvis Landry - 5 years, $65 million, $32 million guaranteed
C Weston Richberg - 5 years, $35 million, $10 million guaranteed
RB Le'Veon Bell - 5 years, $75 million, $40 million guaranteedLots of $$ thrown around ... and without a bonafide starter at QB going into the draft, these guys (particularly Bell and Landry) may balk at coming to Cleveland to play with a rookie QB ... also I overpaid for Richberg, totally spaced on his concussion this year. He won't get that much. I'd regret that decision if it didn't still leave the Browns with $78 million in cap space.
Draft:
1.1: Sam Darnold, QB USC
1.4: Minkah Fitzpatrick, FS Alabama
2.1: Connor Williams, OT Texas
2.3: Tremaine Edmunds, LB Virginia Tech
2.31: Auden Tate, WR Florida State
3.1: M.J. Stewart, CB North Carolina
4.1: B.J. Hill, DT NC State
4.23: Bo Scarborough, RB Alabama
5.1: Shaquem Griffin, LB UCF
5.22: J.C. Jackson, CB Maryland
6.1: Jake Weineke, WR South Dakota State
7.1: Siran Neal, CB Jacksonville StateBetween the crazy spending spree of FA and the draft, I like where the Browns sit. Issue may arise at QB, putting Darnold in a position to start when he may not be ready, or just hope Kizer with the talent around him, can take the next steps until Darnold is ready. Because outside of the QB position, the rest of the team would be in pretty good shape.

no, it isn't, really. It depends on the strength of the talent later on. Sometimes the later talent doesn't compare to the top one or two guys at all. Meaning, the talent/intangibles drop off to unacceptable levels for an immediate starter. For example, drafting the OG from ND really high, when you could get Billy Price maybe? in the second round or a few other OG's? This year, the RB's are deep, so you could go deeper into the draft and get a very good/maybe great RB. There will be some RB's who become immediate impact players - despite not having the outstanding top abilities of Barkley. FS isn't a deep class, IMHO. CB is.QB is... WR - not a top heavy class...
-
if we end up with an undersized qb with a mediocre arm(Mayfield) and a freaking rb with the #1 and #4 picks in the draft, that would be an absolute disaster.
Mayfields game doesn't translate to the nfl as a quality starter imo. When he's not on his spot he doesn't have an nfl arm. And against nfl defenders he isn't going to be quick enough to get out of the pocket and re-establish a good launch point like he could in college.
And even though barkley is a stud, no way should we take a rb in the top 4 overall picks.
take rosen and then trade the #4 overall....

blitzz2-that program screwed you on Sony Michel @ #2 pick 3. That should be an A++ there. Hopefully they fix that program after the combine.
-
If we don't get Kirk Cousins, which nobody on earth expects us to do, the ONLY THING I care about regarding the #1 pick is getting our top rated QB. I don't care where the analysts say this guy should go. I don't care if everyone calls us idiots. I don't care if this QB would've been available in the SECOND round, I just want us to identify our favorite QB, and DRAFT HIM #1. Don't get cute. Don't try to maximize the pick value. Don't try to put "your stamp on the draft". Identify your favorite guy, and freaking take him. We can do this because we have the #4, which hardly any other team has EVER had. We actually get to safely take our top QB and still get to play around with early picks.

Still love FirstPick... As I do every year I pick for other teams, mostly AFCN and the Texans, to see what the sim does for us. Have a bout a dozen in all that have been done over the past month. Here's a summary:
- #1.01... It's always a QB. Most of the time it's Rosen... very early Allen popped up in one (the very first one)... lately Mayfield and Darnold have popped up more.
- #1.04... early on WRs were taken here, usually Ridley, but Sutton once in a while... lately, post Combine, it's been Barkley... Barkley... and Barkley... or Minkah. The sim has never traded down the #4.
- Once the sim traded back up into late-R1 and it was for Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
- #2.01... More variety here as you'd expect, but one name has appeared more than any other post-Combine... DJ Moore (WR)... I'd love him here, but am not sure he gets out of Rnd 1. Early Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado was a popular choice. In drafts where Barkley was not the 4th pick, then Guice was often taken here.
- In general the sim was more active trading in the second... up and down, but mostly adding picks.
Anyway it's a fun exercise that doesn't take much time since there's less concern about "getting it perfect" for another team. Plus it helps you see what our Div opponents may be needing and brings up some names for us that you might not have considered. Couple examples of the latter are:
- Round 5 Pick 22 (150) Browns: Olasunkanmi Adeniyi, DE/OLB, Toledo
- Round 6 Pick 9 (169) (MIA) Browns: Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB, Western Kentucky
Here's the highest scoring sim draft for us:
COMPUTER: 3. Cleveland Browns - 23006
Round 1 Pick 1 (1) Browns: Rosen, Josh (QB) UCLA
Round 1 Pick 4 (4) Browns: Barkley, Saquon (RB) Penn State
Round 2 Pick 1 (33) Browns: Moore, DJ (WR) Maryland
Round 2 Pick 3 (35) Browns: Alexander, Jaire (CB) Louisville
Round 3 Pick 3 (67) (IND) Browns: Shepherd, Nathan (DT) Fort Hays State
Round 4 Pick 9 (109) (DEN) Browns: Holland, Jeff (OLB) Auburn
Round 4 Pick 14 (114) Browns: Watts, Armani (FS) Texas AM
Round 4 Pick 23 (123) Browns: Thomas, Chad (DE) Miami (FL)
Round 5 Pick 22 (159) Browns: Edmunds, Terrell (SS) Virginia Tech
Round 5 Pick 23 (160) (DEN) Browns: Scales, Tegray (ILB) Indiana
Round 5 Pick 24 (161) (CAR) Browns: Conklin, Tyler (TE) Central Michigan
Round 6 Pick 1 (175) Browns: Quessenberry, Scott (C) UCLA
Round 6 Pick 23 (197) (CAR) Browns: Toth, Brett (OT) Army
Round 7 Pick 1 (219) Browns: Coutee, Keke (WR) Texas Tech
