This isn't anything new old news and it's what he is according to the league not something the team designated him as. He is an exclusive rights free agent due to his suspensions from drug use. It means he can only negotiate with the Browns until his contract expires. Nothing to worry about. This was brought up in numerous other threads.

OK....and for how long is that?   In other words....when does his contract expire?

The $790k is only for this year. Next year (2019) he'd be a restricted free agent- if the Browns don't work out a long term deal later this fall.  Assuming Josh plays at his pro bowl level- if it would get to RFA time next year- (it won't assuming he stays clean)  the Browns would undoubtedly slap a 1st round tender on him ($ 4.4 million + a first round pick). Far more likely we'd franchise tag him, work out a long term deal with a lot of "stay clean" riders, and cross our fingers he won't go out and buy himself a $16 million weed farm in Colorado.

If Josh plays lights out we need to restructure his deal

After he retires?  Who cares?   It may be a good investment for him.

    Fair to say?
