I think thats a pretty fair statement overall.......we can all agree that Johnny has caused much of his trouble....BUT the media is magnifying it and pouncing every chance they get(and there are a LOT of opportunities, unfortunately).....and he seems to attract a lot of idiots, like this kid he encountered at the tourney....or the guy in the lobby who got punched......or the fans at the bar who poured drinks on him.....so, if not for the idiots and prying media, most of this stuff would just fly under the radar.....and if Johnny actually played good, then we should all admit we would be more accepting of his antics....
For me.....it's not really about "blame" or whos fault this all is.........no, it's about all this shit being brought to the Browns(no matter WHO is the initial cause).....thats all....I dont hate Johnny, I just hate the shit that swirls around him...(and no matter whether you think it's his fault or not....it's there and it's not good for the team)
And the only 2 solutions to make it stop are either he learns to handle it properly AND plays great....or he goes away.....
Until then....he needs to figure out that he is a HUGE target and have a better plan about how he's gonna handle "things" when they crop up....as they seem to do so frequently.....

I think it's one of those things that we're going to have to deal with until he either plays better or he leaves. There's no way around it. We drafted him knowing full well what the media circus entailing him would be like, regardless of how he acted.
If Manziel had done absolutely nothing and left the event, we would have seen "Manziel Accosted By Inebriated Fan; Leaves PGA Tourney Event" - because that's going to have a high clickthrough rate and is a shareable news item.
So, like you said...either he plays better or he leaves. But I don't think it's fair to assume the media storm will die down if Manziel simply becomes a wet noodle and does nothing. The media will make a story out of nothing.

What's his side of the story?
I highly doubt he will make a statement...he hasn't addressed the media since he went to rehab.....nor has he addressed his teammates since his return....so, everyone is in the dark about Johnny's views on all this stuff ......but, Im sure his "side" is that the other guy was a relentless asshole....which Im sure he was.....
The Browns will probably keep him as hidden as possible and it's no accident that he's about the only Browns not to talk to the media this week.....
but I dont blame him for not talking to the media.....why feed the vultures who only want to see you fail???........though I do think, with all the distractions and the fact that QB is a leadership position. that he should have started on the right foot with the team by coming clean to them and getting an understanding so they ALL can move forward together......I mean, if he's supposed to be leading these guys into battle, then leaving them in the dark and with unanswered questions doesnt seem like a good start......
If Manziel had done absolutely nothing and left the event, we would have seen "Manziel Accosted By Inebriated Fan; Leaves PGA Tourney Event"
I agree again.....and, yes, we knew this was coming when we picked him.....but you also have to accept that a lot of people saw this media circus coming and weren't all too pleased then.....so for many its just the tenth "i told ya so" moment....
And in re to your comment above...Im sure it would've been news....but I d rather read that the fan was the one acting dumb, not both....."Leaves PGA Tournament" would have been a very solid, professional, mature end to that situation......which is pretty much the whole point....

The bottom line is, if Johnny can't beat out McCown this year, then we are all kind of screwed. It means their 1st round gamble isn't good enough to beat out a career backup, journeyman at best QB, in a day and age where 1st round QBs start from day 1, and 3rd round QBs win Super Bowls. So for the future of the Browns, I hope he is what all his boys say he is.

It's like the old westerns - the retired famous gunfighter - "fastest gun in the west" keeps having
some mouthy hotshot trying to make a name for himself at the famous gunfighter's expense.
JM had the fastest money sign in college football, and history is repeating itself.

I doubt it. Just because you're butthurt over the things he gets to do doesn't mean he'll be going anywhere.
Even if he's marginal, he'll be on the team next season.
TC, leave the whole butthurt" angle for others who cannot build an argument. It's way beneath you.
So.... he is arguably the most successful COLLEGE quarterback of all time and completely deflates, if you will, your theory.
Fixed.. unless you were referring to Brady.

Maybe lots of 12 year olds bought jerseys.
I run a Browns fan website and am president of Browns Backer chapter of 300 or so fans.
Never got the indication that Browns fans want a "bad boy" QB.
Starving for a good one ... yes. Hoping he's a 5'11 elf that flips people off ... no.
But we will take that if he's good.
Pretty simple, really.

If Manziel's sales were higher than Weeden's then I would say they do. And they were.

12 year olds. Heisman trophy. Social media whore ... hence jersey sales
None of my friends want a "bad boy" ... not even a wannabe bottle-tossing badboy.
Just shut up and win or we move on to the next one.

Just getting sick of the shit storm as Mudfly pointed out. I'll endure a lot for results but Manziel hasn't produced anything other than an 80 yard TD drive against Buffalo's second string defense in a blowout game. I really hope he makes a positive impact but based on his lack of physical presence and lackluster start, I'm not holding my breath.

So 90% of the Brownsboard and 100% of the Naples Browns Backers are wrong.
You,Walter, the Texas fanboys, a bunch of 12 year olds, and this season's bachelorette all want a "bad boy".
You know he's not a real "bad boy", right? Real bad boys don't "flip off" guys, go to rehab and throw water bottles.
Bad boys drink tequila, shit fire, fuck your wife, and don't explain anything.
IF, they throw something ... it's not water, it doesn't happen at a country club pool, it's not at a 18 year old boy, and they don't miss.

Judging from the jersey sales, they are.
Because Real Browns fans go out and buy the jersey of a 21 year old fucktard who hasn't proven shit, or even shown he's in the right league.
Half those jerseys were sold in Texas, the other half were sold to 12 year old boys .. and you, Walter and a couple other gay guys who like his girlish size and diva attitude.

Well I can guarantee you two things and that is that both former Texas born legends Sammy Baugh and Bobby Layne would have cleaned this kids clock by the second unwanted interruption.
Browns fans who continue to make something out of this situation just have no clue. Be happy it was a water bottle and that otherwise JM has obviously understood he needed to make major changes, which so far he has done. Start backing up your player for his attempts to be your "committed" QB. If you can't see that 10 attempts to explain things to this turd was way over the limit, then your hatred is just getting in the way of your common sense.

I happen to agree with you Ag. If this had been any other NFL player in the same situation- it's a non-story. Blown miles out of proportion by the media.
Hell, some of the Cincinnati Stripers jailhouse gang have busted up bars, slapped pushy bitches in the face, and gotten less media attention.

We're really just arguing out of our own experience, which is pretty pointless (although I actually have experience being a fan of Johnny when he was good).Zombo said:

McCoy was the winningest college quarterback of all time, fresh off a 13-1 season with a team that had been top 2 or 3 in national branding for about a decade, but I suppose no 12 year olds wanted his jersey and the delta between his and Manziel's sales is strictly due to little kids? This makes no sense.

The president of the Austin Browns Backers is a UT grad and I saw him in a Manziel jersey at the draft party. But he's just another 12 year old and/or Aggie, apparently.
