I'm guessing that some on this board think that the blonde dude on Harry Potter is also a 'Bad Boy'

without being an ass myself, i'd like the pro-JF fans to tell me what their solution is to this problem? some will say what problem? the problem is that manziel and SOME fans do not get along, albeit the fan's fault 99% of the time. he just can't handle it. what is your solution? i've told you mine. i'd like to hear from you guys.

just saying "oh let him live his life, you're jealous because he's rich and a celebrity and can do what he wants!" really? how's that been working out for him?

  • Mik, you could probably guess my take by now but since you asked... I think the odds are probably against Johnny being the franchise quarterback the Cleveland Browns have been searching for. just the law of averages says that by far most Heisman Trophy first round quarterbacks fall well short of expectations. Fair enough? The odds are long against any quarterback drafted or sign from someone else's team or picked up in free agency being a top 15 quarterback in the NFL. I realize Johnny's is a celebrity and I believe most of the shit written about him is meaningless garbage for people who listen to Tony Rizzo and Gold hammer to squeal about. I'd have to speculate, which is basically meaningless, to give you my take on the situation last year. This water bottle incident and the fact that he went to a fucking PGA tournament really really means nothing.

The only reason we are even talking about it is that Browns fans are starved for real news and the reporters are too lazy to find anything meaningful to talk about. And we insist on a new topic every day!

Personally I've been disappointed each and every time a Cleveland Browns quarterback failed to take the team to the Superbowl.

I will be just as disappointed when Josh McCown, Connor Shaw and/or Johnny football are added to that list if and when they are.

I do hate listening to the chronic fucking whiners.

  • until the browns find that franchise QB they'll have to win despite the QB. ravens did it with dilfer so..............it can be done.

i never used to get browns news on a national network until manziel came to town so there's that.

The solution is that the system is fine. Politely declining more than ten times, leaving the event, asking not to be touched, and enlisting the help of security are all viable options... and they are all things that Manziel did, according to the police. Once again, the people blowing this out of proportion are the detractors.

If something as trivial as throwing a water bottle is your impression of a hostile engagement, then I've been in at least 250 fights in my life.

I see absolutely no evidence of a person not being able to handle anything, except for the people here who can't handle a bit of Johnny Manziel news.

Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson - proof that you don't need a franchise quarterback.

but it's not just people here. yes espn in a whole are/is a dick thing until they televise something you couldn't see anywhere else. the fact that the manziel water bottle thing was in the top 3 stories on many afternoon live broadcasts monday shows that it's not just 'us people' that over emphasize anything johnny.

the FACT is when he does his celebrity thing 5 times out of ten they end badly. you know my solution. i asked for yours. he should hire security and have them with him when he does his celebrity outings. if a 6 foot 8 370 lb. behemoth of a man went up to that kid that was harassing manziel and told the kid to stop, do you think it would have continued to be a problem? or how about being smart enough to realize (yourself as a educated person) that this thing is getting out of control and let's bounce. how hard would that have been? simple. simple. simple. but the fact that it got to the point where it WAS going to be a story is a fail on his part and on his management's.

And that hasn't happened because of one huge factor. If the team sucks after a couple years they've pulled the plug on the entire staff and the incoming staff cleans house jettisoning good players decent players s***** players all of them to replace them with their own decent s***** or possibly good players and we start the dance over. This has happened almost every time. If the present regime gets a couple more years to build a rock solid team firing on all cylinders we can probably stick in any average quarterback and win, but not if we need to install a new offensive and defensive syste at the end of 2015.

What you are continuing to overlook is that he did leave. He left the event. He went back to his hotel. The fan followed him back and continued to harass him.

    It wasn't:

"Hey Johnny, give me your autograph"

"No. Fuck off you little turd" [throws water bottle]

The solution that you're proposing is what happened - which is what makes this a complete non-story. My solution was to maintain the status quo, becuase overreacting to a situation as tiny as this is equally idiotic.

Hiring a personal security guard is likely not the answer. For one, it would encourage, rather than discourage, inebriated fans. And it could be spun into a PR nightmare. And it would be a talking point for opposing defensive players.

  • the fact that you don't see it as a problem kinda amazes me. sure if names were different it'd be a non-story but given it's manziel it's like another paper on a stack of papers (as someone else mentioned earlier) of the johnny 'mess'.

you might see it as a non-problem but i assure you there are people in the ranks of the browns including those who to choose to pay him that do.

My opinion is that it's completely up to Johnny, and the Browns shouldn't have to place any restrictions on him at all, nor should they have to fear more headlines. Johnny just needs to grow up, and act like a man 100% of the time.

He is going to get more than his fair share of shit, but he has nobody to blame for that but himself. It may not be fair, but he has squarely placed the bulls eye on himself and it will remain there until he succeeds, or until he slithers away, out of the limelight and out of the league.

I think most of us have personally experienced the smart ass, cocky, mouth runnin' punk at some point in our lives, and from my experience with a couple of them, it didn't end well for either. Both are less than successful in life, and that is being kind.

Can johnny grow up and act like a man? Sure he can. However, the question is will he, and only time will give us the answer on that. One thing is for certain, if he doesn't grow up and do it fast, then he will be out of the league faster than you can say Ryan Leaf.

  • It's funny that Browns Fans want to fight about their QB spiking a water bottle in the direction of some douchebag, but Steeler Fans defend their raping QB. The sooner Browns Fans get on board and tell the media and other teams fans to shove off, the sooner we get rid of this non-sense... although I half suspect the ones that claim to be annoyed by the constant Manziel droning also like it very much...

What's the problem? Some punk fan heckled Johnny. He handled it like an adult for a while, then he became flustered and threw a water bottle when the fan followed him back to the hotel. Security stepped in, separated the two, the end.

How is that a problem? I assure you that there are people in the ranks of the Browns, including those who choose to pay him, that don't view it as a problem, including Mike Pettine:

Q: What are your thoughts on the incident that Johnny was involved in over the weekend with the heckling fan and the bottle-throwing?

    Pettine: I have no thoughts. It's a non-story.

    Q. Does it worry you in any way that …

    A. It's a non-story.

    Q. These non-stories keep happening.

    A. Is that a question?

    Q. Are you concerned that these non-stories keep happening?

    A. No. I'm not.

    Q. Why does it become a story? If Donte Whitner threw a water bottle at somebody … would Donte Whitner throw a water bottle at somebody?

    A. That's a hypothetical. You could insert any name, I think under the right set of circumstances everybody standing here could get to the point where they would do something along those lines. Again, I don't see it as a story.

    Q. Given the world we live in now, did you talk to Johnny? You don't want to deprive him of the ability to be in public or whatever, but did you talk to him about taking a lower profile, specifically now because of what he's going through and he's a little bit more of a target than he's ever been?

    A. We've had a conversation. I'll keep those details private.

    Q. This is what he brings, a lot of attention. Anything that happens becomes a quote, unquote story, whether it's a non-story or not. How do you deal with that in terms of the team and keeping it from being a distraction?

    A. I don't see it as a distraction.

    Q. We don't know if he actually threw the bottle at the fan or whatever, but does that concern you that if he can be provoked like that socially that maybe he has a ways to go on the football field where people will be heckling him and harassing him and those kind of things?

    A. I have the details of what happened, and in my mind it's a non-story.

  • Here's a few more takes on the Manziel story by a certain well loved member of the Browns:

Cornerback Joe Haden called the story "overblown." Haden said the fan at the tournament was badgering Manziel for two hours and that once Manziel said no to an autograph that should have been the end.

"He had been heckling him for two hours," Haden said. "Can somebody please get the kid away from [Manziel]? It gets annoying. It gets to the point where people are just out to just say stuff to just get a reaction out of people."

Haden said when he goes out in downtown Cleveland he has security with him, but he said people are nicer to him than they are to Manziel.

"We may be leaving a restaurant. We're walking back to the valet going to the car and then you hear, like, 'How was rehab?'" Haden said. "I'm like, 'Dude. You're just getting at him and we're just chillin' leaving the restaurant.'

"It's just negativity that people are trying to get a reaction out of him."

  • and we all know that a coach/gm/owner would not lie in response to protect their player but actually have another opinion altogether?

i'm sure when the coaches and the other higher up's open their newspaper or read the news on their tablets or pcs they are thrilled to see manziel's name attached to another screwup.

    give me a break.

    i'll stop now.

so yes joe haden agrees with me. and 2 hours? should've left after a 1/2 hour.

  • It's a non story but it doesn't look good and Manziel doesn't need this kind of publicity. I don't think Manziel should have been forced to leave the hotel because someone else is acting bad. The one acting bad is the one who needs to leave. Manziel should have just had the hotel security take care of the problem. They could have warned the 18 year old who was harassing Manziel to stop and if he continued I'm sure they could have escorted him off the premises.

  • and if you look at the national map, which shows sales by state, you'll see Johnny was #1 in 3 states.....OK, KY and OH.....and considering he was 5th in Cleveland, it's pretty apparent his sales were vastly inflated by "new Browns fans".....

Using the map, it's obvious almost ALL areas are buying jerseys for their local players(closest teams)...except OK.....

    http://www.dsg.com/pages/best-selling-nfl-jerseys-by-state

and if you use the map and go by TEAM sales, you'll see OK is unique as one of only 2 states who favor a team far far away (as arkansas likes the Stoolers)....

    http://www.dsg.com/pages/best-selling-nfl-jerseys-by-state

So, if OK has JFF as #1 and the Browns as #1, we can assume that they sold a HUGE amount of JFF jerseys.....

And KY sold more Cinn jerseys, yet had JFF as #1 too......so.....more PROOF that JFF's jerseys sold more elsewhere...

As an Oklahoman, I'm surprised Dez doesn't have the lead. I would give it to Bradford or AP but Bradford plays for the Eagles, and unfortunately this is Cowboy country, and, well, AP speaks for itself.

As for seeing Brown's jerseys here, I believe I've seen a grand total of 5, including my own (it's a Braylon Edwards jersey, not sure if that makes it any better), within the past what 5 or 6 years, none of which were JM. Maybe it is all those 12 year olds that Z has been talking about.
