Post-game scribbles
Add in the punting to the ST comments. Several inside the 10. This area is the most important change I have seen since being on the BB. We are finally winning all phases of that important third of the game.

Agreed even though Colquitt was far from being a problem.
I love the Scottish Hammer but I would have really liked to see Austin Corbett step it up.

You can't step up if you aren't activated. Not a very good sign unless he has some nagging injury that is unreported. Dorsey may just be having a hard time realizing he wasted a pick there like many of us thought when he made it that high. He wasn't even on my drafting radar.
EDIT: Speaking of trades does anyone know why Garrett played so much RDE last night?

And oh line in the second round should be a should be a stellar pick. And it seems like if he was hurt we'd have heard something about it?
Granted it takes a while sometimes for offensive lineman to develop.

Notable notes from Terry....
2. After the game, Beckham said he knew he’d score a TD but he needed his “hamstrings to hold up.” Then his calves cramped up in the end zone. He went to the locker room where he was put on an I.V. to add fluids to his system.
11. With Dontrell Hilliard (concussion) out, veteran receiver Jarvis Landry volunteered to return punts. He drew praise from teammates and coaches. Some veterans don’t want that job because it has a high rate of injury. Landry looked good, running back four punts for a 12-yard average.
12. Landry said: “I just want to help the team. I know special teams is a big part of the game.”
13. Landry was right, especially when it came kicker Austin Seibert. The rookie drilled field goals of 48, 43 and 23 yards. He was perfect on both extra points. On a night when the Browns had trouble getting the ball in the end zone. those field goals gave them some breathing room....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Which reminds us again that there is no I in team.
Great news!
6. Something to watch: An NFL source told me that the officiating crews the Browns had in the first two games rank No. 1 and 2 in calling penalties after two games this season. The crew in town for the Rams game ranks third from the bottom. That could make for a better game to watch.
And a great point...
14. Most college QBs play exclusively in the shotgun. Mayfield has learned to operate under center. But this season, Mayfield has thrown only eight passes (completing three) when not in the shotgun. Goff is 16-for-25 passing when not in the shotgun.
Hope Freddie reads Terry... and/or me...
In reading Terry's notable notes besides the tempo of the offense and Mayfield I also found this"unusual" was it the BROWNS team or the zebras?
And maybe this was a good roster move afterall.
10. Rookie punter Jamie “Scottish Hammer” Gillan is off to a remarkable start. He was the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his work vs. the Jets. In two games, he has had only one punt returned (for 4 yards). Eight of his 20 punts have landed inside the 20-yard line. Priefer pushed hard for the Browns to keep Gillan over Britton Colquitt. It was not a knock on the veteran punter. Priefer believes Gillan can be exceptional.
Pre-Ravens taping...
TBH he made little sense there. You can't start by talking about individual talent needing to play together and then use pre-snap penalties, all of which are individual penalties, to show it's not there.
I like Terry in print better... although tossing his note pad to free up a 6th finger was chuckle-worthy.
Indeed it was before the Ravens game but I do agree. And it does seem like an All-Star team would have a disadvantage play against the team with Wes talent that is played together for an entire season. No? Mostly in the light of letting everybody slack off the entire preseason which I thought caused lack of synchronicity among the players, especially the offensive line really really needs time to play together to gel, being somewhat out of shape leading to more injuries then should have occurred. And of course the penalties.
Channeling BaBa WaWa???
Tough call on the All-Stars vs. a team... I started to respond that the SB winner would win vs. a rest-of-the-league All-Star team give two weeks to gel... then I actually thought about it.
Defensively you could play man coverage... or man under... as your base D. Cut your DL loose... let your LBs read and flow... and I think you could bottle up even the best Offense. And there are enough basic stunts that even parings who have not played together before would know them.
Offensively? Different story... OL would theoretically outmatch their opposites from OT to OT, but their handling of stunts could be ragged. Ditto for runblocking where balocks are handed off... especially a feature of the ZBS, but also a part of the power game.
Then there's the matter of the QB meshing with his WR corps. Not an issue on set routes, but option routes are the norm these days and it takes time to develop the trust a QB needs to throw where he thinks the WR will go. RBs? Pretty much read-react stuff... running and in PassPro.
It'd be interesting. Only thing close we have seen is the old College All-Star game where the best of the college seniors played the defending NFL Champs. IIRC the college team won twice in 30+ years??? And given the relative inexperience and fledgling physical development of those All-Stars, it really doesn't provide any insight as to how a pro vs. pro match up would go.
Damn speech to text should have read was less talented but you understand. Like why isn't Blind Faith considered one of the greatest bands in history?
For the same reason that Bo Jackson has not made the PFHOF......too short of a career. It was more or less like Derek and the Dominoes....just sort of an all star band put together for one album.
Actually only one core member of Derek and the Dominos would be considered a superstar. So that's a bad example.
Also a football season 16 games long not 1. So we have already seen the result of an unprepared group of superstars for one game. The rest of the season will tell the tale. Which is where playing together will be important.
Duane Allman and Dave Mason were members of D&D with Clapton.... And who were the superstars in Blind Faith? Do you not consider them on the "superstar level" as Steve Winwood...and Ric Grech. Or are you also counting Ginger Baker?
Actually they weren't core members.
WSS
Neither band really had "core members". I mean, they were both just a bunch of guys put together to compile an album. They each put out one album.
