No shitting on other people's opinions. We have that in spades. That said, write something critical of the party/candidate you most align with that has to do with policy. The tribal hardlining where everyone bunkers in and sticks to the party line is boring. As a bonus, if you want to list something positive about the party you least align with, have at it.

I am a libertarian. I have accepted the fact that even though I really like most of the policies, I do not think every single thing should be privatized. There are some services provided that are best left to tax payer expense. I don't want to have privatized police or firefighters determining if someone or their home gets saved based on a monthly payment system. It becomes some goof troop utopian idea that everything can be privatized and it makes the party look silly....well more silly than usual.

Dems: I don't mind the idea of universal healthcare or some mixed system. People can plan for lots of things but sometimes a catastrophic health issue will come up. Being deadbroke and passing the debt on to family because you made the mistake of having dicked up genes that cause brain cancer seems like it should be something that can be prevented or at least lessened.

Republicans: Most, not all, Republicans tend to be pro 2A. It is one of my hot button political issues. So having some politicians around who want to protect 2A rights is a good thing and I will always value that.

I've walked away from the libertarian Party.  At this point I really carry no label,  but I will offer my comment/criticism on them.

Everything can be solved with an over simple solution.   I belonged to a couple FB groups I've since removed myself from and I've noticed that the answer to just about any question,  regardless of its complexity and size,  is always answered by 'free market',  'zero regulations',  'anarchy',  'user fees' etc etc.

I don't think they realize that a great society can requirement a great reinvestment at times.   Things are far too black and white for them.

Especially the "TAXATION IS THEFT" and pure Constitutionalist lot.   They'll cite the 2A as a document saying that, in its original intent, there should exist no firearm laws and restrictions.  Yet fail to acknowledge that little part which allows for states to levy and collect taxes.

At this point I find party affiliation of any kind to be a disease.

I see the national debt as an issue I would say a pox on both parties for allowing this country to go 21 trillion in debt and counting. When we are taking in record revenue yet we continue to go further in debt it shows we have a spending problem. Bush ran up the debt with the war in Iraq and put the country 10-11 trillion in debt. Obama just about doubled Bush in putting us further in debt. Now we are in a terrible position of trying to pay down the debt without putting the country into recession. Meanwhile the debt keeps growing. I like the republican idea of growing the economy with tax cuts to increase revenue versus the counter productive raising taxes but we have a spending problem that we cannot get under control.

Update: national debt is now over 22 trillion

The Second Amendment is already done for. Municipalities have been allowed to curtail the rights of gun owners for years, no reason they can't trim them back even more, and they will.

We already have socialized medicine to an extent and there's no way anybody is going to roll that back.

I don’t associate with any political party. They both have good and bad ideas

If i had to “rail” against something it would be a 2 party system. It only divides the country. It will NEVER unify anything.

Why can’t we elect someone that represents ideas? Not from ONLY the left, or ONLY the right?

I align with the Dems, but I am extremely pissed the extreme left candidates get all the press.I'm pissed they elected Pelosi as Speaker. Now we have two whack jobs in the limelight (Pelosi, Trump).  I know that's not what you're looking for here.

So policy-wise, I'm critical of several things: A) Voter IDs. The Dems seem against it and it does't make any sense. You need IDs for just about anything else important. B ) Gun Control. I don't own one, and understand why some folks are anti-NRA, but the crooks will find a way to skirt the system and obtain guns.

Positive thing about Dems (IMHO): they seem more humane, sometimes to a fault.People are more of a priority, something the Rs don't seem to align with.

I don't support either party. As said earlier in this thread, the two party system is a large negative on our country. The whole campaigning  system is fucked up. More options and a dilution of power would be a good thing.

Dems: I don't like the emphasis on identity politics from some of the more SJW type party members (which is probably a very typical thing to say as a white male). While I obviously think climate change is a big issue, a group like Greenpeace is shitty. I don't think race-based affirmative action is needed (instead it should be financially based). Attacking the college tuition bubble and debt issue is important, but we need to emphasize non-colleges options. In high school, I don't remember anyone really saying anything about learning a trade. College isn't for everyone, so going, getting debt, taking a shitty job, and then getting you position automated does nothing. On the flip side, craftsmen and service jobs are hard to source (young skilled tradesmen are hard to  find, personal experience) and they can really make a lot of money.

Reps: Positive thing, an emphasis on self reliance, independence, etc. Now, a hands off, 0 support solution, doesn't always work. But the general idea is good, imo.

I am a fiscal conservative and am PO'd with the 2 Trillion $$ addition to the national debt. The fact that has occurred under a Republican makes no sense to me whatsoever. I would like to support a Republican who understands that and takes the time to find ways to decrease that debt and certainly not add to it with a billionaire tax cut bill. Most here still don't get that the tax cut bill is permanent for the upper 1%, but not for anyone else. It runs out in the second term if he is still there. It's a rich man's bill put together and passed by rich men.

I am for finding ways to account for and decrease the effects of global climate change as shown by the increasing scientific evidence behind it. I am not for pretending that the science does not exist. Parts of Miami are experiencing it more and more each year with nothing more than high tides seeping up through the porous limestone. I bet some of them  have become true believers.

I am for studying real universal health care as practiced in other countries and finding a responsible way of making it work here. The greed of health insurance and drug companies is burying the everyday American who cannot predict to a certainty that individually they won't have a catastrophic illness or accident that precludes ability to pay.

As for the far left wing, forget it. Find  a more centrist candidate who doesn't go overboard. You know, like Republicans used to be.

2nd amendment should stay intact but with limitations. No way the founding fathers could have foreseen today's weaponry. Rifling had just begun to replay the smooth bore weapons. And nothing like the automatic weapons of today could have been envisioned. We have a living, breathing document in the Constitution and there is an amendment process in place for societal change. Use it appropriately just as we have done for women's voting rights, abolition of slavery, etc.

I believe nationalism is a great thing.  We need to love our country.  We need to protect our citizens.  We need to eliminate allowing any refugees from mustlim countries.  We need to further strengthen our military to be ready for any threat from Russia, China or anyone.  We need free enterprise to be  the rule, no socialism

1st amendment should stay around but with limitations. There's no way the founding fathers could have ever forseen the internet or that all the utter morons they managed to marginalize by skirting true democracy and giving the Retards a somewhat less Retarded representative to speak for them would ever be able to communicate quickly enough, or with little enough oversight, to orchestrate online mobs.

                                  1) there are limitations on the first amendment

                                  2) communicating more quickly is much different than killing more quickly

Not at all. In fact it's just as dangerous. Look at the state of the world. The instantaneous sharing of information has made mass murder super fashionable.

You're a smart guy I'm pretty sure you get it. All this media means that people are getting plenty of attention for their misdeeds.

Adam Lanza was able to go online and find people who fed his delusional fantasies. It was well known how he idolized mass shooters like Harris and Klebold. In another age it was quite likely he blew his own brains out and did the world a favor. Instead...one upsmanship. It's led to the rise of Facebook live murders, it's toxic online communities like incels that led directly to at least two mass murders from that group. It's the proliferation of the internet as an information sharing tool that's evolved the cartels from gunning their enemies down to skinning them alive on video, and isis making videos of burning people alive in cages.

Did all this shit happen before? Absolutely. However it's naive to not correlate the meteoric rise in such things with the advent of the internet. There's also a lot of less drastic but also harmful movements that have grown out of the ability to gather and share information without being checked. Anti-science must be one you're familiar with. Anti-vaccine, flat Earth, climate change deniers, anti gmo, chemtrails, anti-medicine.

One might even argue those are more dangerous to humanity as a whole than mass shooters and grimly inventive cartel killers.

Early man walked away as modern man took control. Their minds weren't all the same and to conquer was their goal. So He built his great empires and he slaughtered his own kind, and he died a confused man and killed himself in his own mind...

But this is off track. I'd be happy to talk about it in another venue.

For the right - they need to step off gay marriage, and especially contraception. They have no business trying to tell two consenting adults what to do in the bedroom no matter what their religious text says, and attempting to block contraception is just plain Retarded if abortion is abhorrent to you.

Also the majority of climate change hoaxers appear to be from the right. Blocking anything that attempts to mitigate the damage is inconcievable.

For the left - Identity politics are killing this country on a daily basis. Ramming things like transgenderism - which even the gay community still struggles to accept - down everyone's throat is baffling. Trying to view every last thing through the lens of race and personal Identity is...not working out as far as I can see.

Early man walked away as modern man took control. Their minds weren't all the same and to conquer was their goal. So He built his great empires and he slaughtered his own kind, and he died a confused man and killed himself in his own mind...
