I think you can Stop saying blaming the refs is an excuse

The Browns Board

  • It is certainly plausible that there are refs making calls that can steer a game for gain. I do not consider that to be directed at only the Browns. To think that has NEVER happened with the gambling money involved is likely as naive as thinking all of them are fixed. I’ll agree the majority are simply based on referees who simply suck at their jobs.

There's growing speculation that several large bets have been placed on the same crew that screwed the Lions:

What proof do you want exactly? Are do you just want to live in an ignorant bubble where the evidence in front of you doesn't exist?

"IF" there were ever any credible evidence of any such game tampering it would crush the already shrinking viewership of the NFL football games.

And remember Pete Rose or Paul Horning or Alex Karras among very few others and that was just for placing bets only. Get caught now it would be a "death sentence" from the league.

From 2019, the NFL is very clear on this in emails sent to any player or employee........    https://www.thelines.com/nfl-gambling-policy-2019

With the NFL preseason underway, the league reiterated its opposition to employees being involved with any kind of gambling this week. An NFL source told TheLines that employees and contractors were all emailed a copy of the league’s gambling policy on Wednesday.

The document spelled out all the league’s policies regarding sports betting, fantasy sports, and casino-style games. It is similar to the policy announced last year, but our source said this was the first time he and others in the league were directly sent the policy.

It’s believed all players, coaches, owners, and other employees received the emailed document.

“We didn’t get it last year or any other,” the employee said. “They definitely covered their bases.”

    A BIG BETTING REMINDER

The league said the NFL is committed to maintaining game and spells out in detail what is and isn’t allowed in the document.

“Gambling, particularly betting on NFL games or other sports, presents risks to the integrity of our competition and team cohesion, and can undermine the confidence and trust of our fans and colleagues in America’s greatest game. We therefore owe it to our fans and everyone associated with the League to take all appropriate steps to safeguard our game against possible threats from illegal gambling as well as gambling in a legal, regulated context.”

To make the point clear, the policy notes this about various gambling-related activities from match-fixing to fantasy football:

    • No illegal gambling including offshore or in states without legal sports betting.
    • No gambling in any form on any NFL games at all including through third parties.
    • Players must always give a “best effort” in any game to avoid any impropriety.
    • Offering inside information or tips on a team or game is banned.
    • Personnel may not visit or enter a sportsbook during the season.
    • No wagering is allowed in any form in any club or league facility.
    • Players may not promote any kind of gambling entity.

Also, employees and owners may not own a share in any casino or entity with revenue from sports betting. That doesn’t apply, however, to mutual fund shares and other “passive investment” holdings..........MORE CONTINUED IN LINK.........

  • Does anyone have a link to the Landry play that wasn't ruled a touchdown? I can't find a link that shows the different angles, but apparently people say he got in?

No link but the broadcast if you can find it showed the ball almost completely over the goal line maybe the last quarter of the ball didn’t cross.  The angle looked poor though

The Podcasts I'm listening to are so irate with the call that they don't understand how in the world it wasn't overturned.  The refs almost ALWAYS get the "goal line TD" right, almost ALWAYS.  They are unbelievably good at nailing that call, so how in the world did they miss it live, and then NOT change it?  I don't understand...I really don't.

Also, the talking heads are saying that Kitchens was so completely pissed off that they missed the call, that he wasn't prepared for the next play, and even though we were going to score a TD on the Chubb run, Kitchens called a timeout to look at it, and then ran the EXACT SAME PLAY on 4th down.  WHO THE HELL DOES THAT?

A first year coach does that.

like the analyst and like others have said-  pulling lineman at the goal line not usually a good idea.  You have typically three downlineman sometimes more with a simple job of getting low and shooting the interior gaps that are now vacated because your lineman is pulling.  It’s instant deep penetration.  You don’t want your back taking a handoff and going lateral right out of the gate.

the ball was clearly over.  They showed the replay during the game.  I thought the angle was a little skewed but I could tell the ball had crossed.  We are talking almost the entire football across the goalline.

Yeah, total BS for sure. Maybe the Lions get another apology letter...they got screwed vs the Chiefs by officiating a couple weeks ago.

Why is it that Green Bay, Denver, New England and Pittsburgh get "opportune calls" while Cle, Detroit, and Oakland get jobbed every season?

Refs gave GB the game. I'm not a Lions fan but it pissed me off so bad I had trouble getting to sleep.

    It's getting old NFL.

Was listening on the radio yesterday to Doug Gottlieb, and to a certain extent I agree with him- the Refs are equal opportunity screwers. It wasn't just the Browns who got a few bad calls, the Lions got jobbed too. Every team is getting their fair share of bad calls. & Doug did point out the technology has improved so much with multiple camera angles and slo-mo, it's a lot easier to nit-pick on calls that were missed. Looking at it in real time when you have other responsibilities is a lot tougher.

PS- the Lions already got at least one apology for the wrong hands to the face, I think they're due another one for the missed PI. If that isn't PI according to the league, it's open season on mugging WRs.

Donovan said on Red Zone they showed a different camera angle on the jumbotrons that didn't make it to the TV broadcast. Said it was obvious Landry scored, and why Freddie was so POed.

that was wasn't "missed", imho. All the action is right there, ball going there. You know they are looking right at the play on the ball.

and intentionally ignored the pi. I would suggest that the Patriots seem to never have these things be a major obvious problem....
