And speaking of Sagan and things astronomical.... if the weather is clear, and you have a telescope with a solar filter- this coming Monday morning starting around 7:30 AM EST for several hours- the planet Mercury will go directly in front of the sun. And that's not going to happen again for 10+ years....

"Decent" and "arm & a leg" are very relative terms when it comes to telescopes. I'll PM you later today with some opinions.

"Decent" and "arm & a leg" are very relative terms when it comes to telescopes. I'll PM you later today with some opinions.
My one brother when he was working at YSU as the Ward Beecher Planetarium and the physics and astronomy departments. There are a lot of amateur astronomers out there and it's not a bad idea to check out used but very nice equipment at a Planetarium or club near you.
