Still could be backup ...or do you think Lamm would be better there.  And truthfully, we need backup for both RT and LT  (aside from needing a starting LT....unless you think Justin McCray can do the job.  I don't really.

  • @hoorta said:

LOL, we could have had him three years ago. But Joe T. was still playing....

The Tennessee Titans selected Conklin in the first round (8th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.[14] The Tennessee Titans traded their first (15th overall) and third round (76th overall) picks in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns in order to receive the eighth overall pick, as well as a sixth round pick (176th overall), to draft Conklin.

So....we should have had him  3 years ago with that 8th pick.  We get him now.

    This is superior news.

He is a RT, no?  So, yea, we need that LT......and I guess the draft is the place to get it.

Gip, what if we sign the 38 year old LT (Peters) from Philly as a stop-gap (at the right price), trade down & pick up both an LB & a developmental LT? Just a thought.

Jack Conklin agreed to a 3-year deal with the Browns for $42M with $30M fully guarantee, per @RosenhausSports. He earns $20mil in the first year. Wanted to keep it short due to the projected increases in the salary cap. Conklin will only be 28 when this deal expires.

huge pickup. Now Do we still do a LT at 10 in the draft?

    Hell yes we do.

This is terrific news, like unbelievable! We're going to have a real offense, with a real coach, who has a real system.

I vote no.  We're picking 10th.  I want one of the best please.  Too important a position LT.  (but that's just me)

In today's NFL you need both LT and RT to be good.. that's why the Eagles paid both Peters and Johnson.  More of the DE's with top sack totals face RT than those who line up vs LT.  So it's not implausible to spend FA money on one side and draft the other.

Only thing I'm not feeling is the length of the deal... 3 years is a pretty short lock up to be planning to take a LT at #10. Plus Jack will only be 26 at the start of the 2020 season. He'd be coming due for a new contract a year before negotiations would start with a 2020 rookie.

Makes me feel like we might flip him and draft a RT like UConn's Peart on Day 2. Frees up #10 for a IDL or LB...

Note: If you look at Conklin's PFR page in his rookie season his position is listed as "lt/RT". So he saw some time at LT. Seems likely that Lewan got dinged in game and Jack flipped sides to finish it.

Whatever works.  That's an idea.  Though this is supposed to be a LT rich draft, so we may just want to go ahead and pull the trigger on that now.

When you say "flip him"  do you mean  flip him to the LT spot?

You take BPA Aside from WR, RB, QB at 10.  Top 15 in the draft the mentality should be landing Pro Bowl talent not just finding starters filling gaps.

Conklin signing allows that to happen.

They May have determined a Tackle is the BPA but I wouldn’t pass on a great defensive talent rated higher.  These tackles just don’t excite me.

ive never endorsed trade downs...but I hope one of these top QBs slides in our spot and we get a team that gets aggressive and sends us a pick.

God forbid but we may need the ammo if Baker ain’t it for a shot at a 21 QB

That is probably fair, given that the BPA may also "fill a gap".

How far would you be willing to drop....and who would you drop to pick up?

Picks 12 to 16 all need QBs it will get interesting to see one may try to jump another to land “their guy”. Thinking Love or maybe Herbert.

i think some of these tackles consistently mentioned in the top 12 will slide too.

I was thinking Conklin has the ability to plat LT so maybe we are going for defensive help early on.

He may have the ability, but I do not think that is the prime option for him.    No Optimus Prime he.

  • I'd guess they want him for RT....but he's a lot money.   We'll have to hear from the Browns.

I like it. Big move, yea. Conk will be a great Browns' RT. TE dearth taken care of. QB depth. Go LT at 10?

Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia (6-5, 315 pounds)

Thomas matches his great size with good hands and footwork. He was an anchor of the Bulldogs' run blocking, helping to open some holes for the best backs in the nation. He also can move to win battles with athleticism.

Conklin makes sense if this is a run "heavy" team.  Judging by last years numbers we will likely be just that.

Take the best LT available in the draft, OL fixed. Oh and add an OG as well.
